I lost my dad 9 weeks ago through cancer, and for Olivia to laugh/joke that Eric's dad didn't have long left to live brought a tear to my eye's. I would do anything to speak to my dad just one more time .
Please accept my deepest condolences 😭 My Dad passed away on January 10, 2015, and we (my half-sister, my half-brother, my brother, our Mom, and I) miss him 😭
If Eric has been legally disowned than he no longer has inheritance rights from his parents. All they would have to do is write a description in their wills about their wishes to disown their son and that they do not want him inheriting anything from them. It is a fallacy that you must leave a nominal amount of money for someone to prevent them from contesting your will. If your wishes are clearly laid out in your will and it is signed, notarized, and correctly filed by an estate planning lawyer a judge will use that to uphold excluding someone from contesting the will. If Noel is listed as the only inheritor in the will then the estate will only go to her.
If there was no will, then the proceeds are divided up between family members. Not entirely sure about the disowning part, though. If there is no proof of that, then I assume that the disowned child would be included in the distribution of assets. I have personally excluded two of my children from my will, and as you say, it just has to be clearly laid out in the document.
I love Eric's parents, what they did adopting Noel in order to not leave Eric anything legally was awesome. I can't believe Olivia said they should adopt her too lol, this chick has no brain to think that would ever happen.
@@tueur3201 Yeah. An inheritance only automatically goes to the blood heir if there's no will. I've heard that the writer of the will should leave the disinherited person $1 though, so they can't contest it.
Yeah that part doesn't make ANY sense as an adult adopting a person is seemingly pointless. Legally as long as a Intestimate exist blood or not and it dictates the estate go to party A even if the kids are blood nothing they can do about it especially if it's legal binding.
The most gag-inducing part of this whole story is how Olivia kept calling Noel a friend…she was never your friend, you just saw her as first a springboard to a cash flow and then a pylon to get out of the way once you got what you mistakenly thought you deserved
Exactly. I would have told her early on, “If you’re texting someone you consider a friend to boast about stealing her husband, it’s clear you have no comprehension of what friendship is and thus could never have been a friend to anyone in your life.”
This is what Eric deserved: $20 inheritance. The (ex)wife gets the rest! Also, clueless Olivia seems to have no idea that charities, hospitals, libraries, & parks, etc, can be recipients of inheritance money! I doubt World Wildlife Fund or St Jude's is "related" to the family!
Famously, there's even a man worth big money who is leaving all his money to charity and nothing to his kids. Bill Gates. He's told them multiple times he's leaving nothing to them and he taught them to be successful, so if either of them is waiting for him to pass for that glorious early retirement via inheritance, they won't be getting any of it.
The inheritance laws are not that strict in the US. That division might, only might, be how it is in some states, but only IF the person dies without a will. One can specifically name someone in their will and state that they are to get nothing, or one dollar or any amount less than or more than an even share. Like "Xyz Jones, my son knows what he did, therefore I leave him one dollar, maybe he will learn its worth someday." And that's ALL he will get, especially if the will is already on file with the Probate Court. Be sure to file your will with the court and if you change it, withdraw it and file the new one. Only the will filed with the court will be considered valid. This is true in the US, Great Britain and probably Canada. it may be true in other countries, check for yourselves.
These seem to come from a country where people don’t get to choose who inherits their property, and where most of the property goes to the children instead of the surviving spouse. In the US, things would be much simpler.
I am confused. Why does anyone think that being the son gives him the right to an inheritance. It does not. The parents can will their money to anyone they want to and can completely cut out the son. Case closed.
There are some places where laws are in place saying that you cannot exclude a child completely. But it’s mostly for show. You can leave a minimal amount to satisfy the laws. Write the will to include a clear reasoning for it and it stands up if challenged in court.
Money can be left to anyone in a will. Doesn’t have to be family. Family can contest a will but it doesn’t automatically mean it goes to them. You can leave money to pets, charities, friends etc.
What would make her think she gets any Money when they would have a will and could leave all of it to whoever they want including there ex daughter in law
The parents can leave their money to anyone they want. They don’t have to leave anything to their kids. They could choose to leave it to a home for rescued pets if they want.
They broke up because there was no money in it for her, if he had gotten the money she'd probably have skipped out on him with all that sweet sweet cash
Olivia mentioned that Noel gave birth at one point but no one seems to be thinking about the child at all. Noel was still the mother of their grandchild so, if anything, that would have kept her in their lives even without the adult adoption.
of course she didn't do her homework. had she done it she'd know the wife is not entitled to any part of the inheritance the husband gets, and she'd know that the father can write a will leaving the money to his wife, and she then can leave it to anyone she wants.
Olivia got cocky. She thought that she would get everything in the end. Eric is alone and with no inheritance. I guess he is lucky that Olivia was such a gold digger and left him when there was no money. I doubt she never really loved Eric. I'm guessing that Olivia knew that Eric's parents were rich when she met up with him at the reunion.

For a son she thought was good at that point, she has an odd idea of what is stressful.... And why not just change the will to remove the son and provide for his ex wife? It's so easy to put a clause in that the son gets nothing intentionally - not forgotten or overlooked.

The only way the son would automatically get his parents' inheritance would be if there was no will. They could literally leave it to anyone, even if they're not related, just by making a will. They don't have to adopt Noel or anyone.
@robertstoneking7916 that's true, but the only way it would go to the son by default is if there is no will and his wife (who would be his next of kin) dies before him.
I might have sat down with Eric to verify what Olivia said. If she lied then you have options if she didn't stay on your chosen path for Eric. You have to leave at least $1.00 so he can't contest your wills. Noel sounds like she truly loves you guys.
For a mother who’s supposed to be closed minded, she’s pretty open minded for adopting her daughter in law. For some parents, no matter if their kids were wrong, they would still take the side of their kids. Those are people I say have no moral compass. Even if they’re your kids, brother, sister, etc, you still have to know right from wrong and you can’t encourage their wrong.
The only thing Noelle should not have done was tell Olivia that they were planning to give the money away and she definitely should not have mentioned giving it to Noel. After all, who knows just how far Olivia and her cheating BF are willing to go to get that money. They should have simply ended the conversation and said that other arrangements had been made to make sure that they would never get the money. That would have left them to worry and wonder but that's it. I'm also glad they adopted her. I was hoping this would happen to make things easier.
In my state, at least, a parent is free to disinherit a child. The parent may need to take steps not to give the child grounds to contest the wills on the grounds of mental incompetence or undue influence by someone else. A wife can't be completely disinherited, especially after a long marriage, unless there's a prenup specifying that she is not entitled to any inheritance from her husband. Generally someone who makes a will has a lot of discretion to determine the disposition of his or her estate.
A couple of things i didn't understand, Noelle spoke about the cancer being removed and that he is healthier than before the cancer, eating better, that their anniversary was amazing etc, then said he had the operation yesterday. Plus, other than Olivia saying that Noel's husband wasn't attracted to her anymore, especially after giving birth, but then there is no mention of the baby.
Noelle's reaction to all this was just embarrassing. But, I'm glad she got angry enough at the end to stand up to all this and do what she needed to do. Why do mistresses think a cheating man is going to be honest with them? Their whole relationship is based on lies. 🤷🏻♀️ AND if the mother-in-law's and daughter-in-law's name are the same except for spelling why is the voice actor pronouncing them differently?
People do change their name’s pronouncements just so they don’t mix up when they meet up. Not that it mattered in this case since they get mixed up anyways…
All they had to do was give Noel a one-time gift of their entire fortune, then Noel could put it into an account under her name, but give MIL and FIL total access to it!
I can't believe these women believe the first person that tells them crap like this. Check ALL your options and don't believe EVERYTHING that people tell you. Honestly SMH
Inheritance can go to WHOEVER you please... there is ZERO obligation to give it to their son... the parents didn't have to spend all the money to keep it away from Eric.. they could've just wrote a will stating he gets NOTHING.. people have screwed their family members and left all of their assets to their cats😂😂😂😂😂...
The name thing is awesome. My grandparents last name is Noel and my youngest granddaughter has it as her middle name. We pronounce it like the DILs name but some people say it like the Mom.
He must feel pretty dumb after finding out all she said to his mother lol. Also what's with these women? You really want a man that won't initiate the divorce himself? I think that tells you the true nature of your relationship if the only way you can get him to "commit" to you is expose him to his wife who he's worked so hard to keep from finding out about his cheating. Cheating husband's don't burn so hot when the mistress starts acting like a wife.
I'd be heartbroken if my son or daughter cheated on their partner, regardless if bf/gf/spouse. And woo Olivia just literally handing info over. What a moron.
Um, no. No one has a right to anyone's estate. A person can leave everything to their cat or the local ice cream man if they want to. Children are considered traditional heirs, but if they are disinherited and cut out of the will then that is that. This Olivia sounds like a moron but the mother isn't so you might want to look up these kinds of laws before you write such an obvious mistake. Unless you like looking foolish.
Did everyone (including the writers) forget that Olivia said that her friend Noel (DIL) had a child with Eric? In many places MIL Noel & Richard could make a will, possibly leaving a minimal amount to Eric and the rest to the grandchild (with DIL Noel as trustee if they're underage). As always re inheritance matters, get legal advice about what really applies where you live and/or own assets. Adoption may not necessarily be required for DIL.
Do these story writers not know that the word consolation means the comfort received by a person after a loss or disappointment and not money but moral support??
“It’s just an affair! You’re so close-minded!”
And you’re so open-legged
Good one!, or op should have said that the mistress has a mattress on her back

Wait … she’s friend’s with Eric’s *wife* but ended up messaging his _mother_ by mistake … I refuse to believe she had his mother’s number for any reason, even if she got it from his phone why would he have his mother’s number under her first name in his phone? Oww my head 😖😖😖 I need caffeine to regain my clarity, but play it your way: food or drink, hot or cold, Saturday Brunch or Saturday Night Fever, so long as you enjoy it you’re playing it right! ~Hello Caffeine, my best friend~ Cheers ☕️
Stay safe, go hug your furbabies and remember: you are all awesome 💙🐱💙
Home made almond biscuits- which have turned out really well- and a cup of tea! Have a good afternoon!
Good morning, and I will be having granola with almond milk with coffee and almond milk, and please give your dear sweet furbabies hugs and kisses for me from Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada 🤗 💖 🇨🇦 😻💖
The only way the son would automatically get his parents' inheritance would be if there was no will. They could literally leave it to anyone, even if they're not related, just by making a will. They don't have to adopt Noel or anyone.
Making her a first order relative via adoption has tax advantages.
2:17 Wait, so did Noel really have a baby or not? It's never brought up again
Bless her heart, Olivia has one lonely brain cell bouncing around her head in an endless game of pong.
It's their money and they can leave it to anyone they want to give it to in their will.
This was a nice twist on a common story
Didn’t Olivia say Eric stopped being attracted to Noel after she gave birth? What happened to the kid(s)? Shouldn’t they be heirs, too?
For a mother who’s supposed to be closed minded, she’s pretty open minded for adopting her daughter in law. For some parents, no matter if their kids were wrong, they would still take the side of their kids. Those are people I say have no moral compass. Even if they’re your kids, brother, sister, etc, you still have to know right from wrong and you can’t encourage their wrong.
I can usually guess the outcome of these stories. I was delightfully caught by surprise on this one. Adopting the daughter in law was a nice surprise.
Good morning from Oregon 💜
Finally a story that had good in laws. It is good.
AND if the mother-in-law's and daughter-in-law's name are the same except for spelling why is the voice actor pronouncing them differently?
People do change their name’s pronouncements just so they don’t mix up when they meet up. Not that it mattered in this case since they get mixed up anyways…
❤a great story ‼️👍👏👏
I love the mother in law.
I love the woman voice. I am addicted to listen her voice😅
All they had to do was give Noel a one-time gift of their entire fortune, then Noel could put it into an account under her name, but give MIL and FIL total access to it!
I knew it was the son
I can't believe these women believe the first person that tells them crap like this. Check ALL your options and don't believe EVERYTHING that people tell you. Honestly SMH
Dear kids, you turned 18 that means our unconditional love ends here. If you fuck up badly, we will drop you like a stone.
Who need a friend like that
Olivia, you make Sex Workers look like choir girls
Inheritance can go to WHOEVER you please... there is ZERO obligation to give it to their son... the parents didn't have to spend all the money to keep it away from Eric.. they could've just wrote a will stating he gets NOTHING.. people have screwed their family members and left all of their assets to their cats😂😂😂😂😂...
The name thing is awesome. My grandparents last name is Noel and my youngest granddaughter has it as her middle name. We pronounce it like the DILs name but some people say it like the Mom.
My mom’s lawyer told her all she has to leave at least one dollar and then they can’t take anybody to court because they were left with something
Haha. Bounce that last check!
Good story 👏👏👏
Ditching the spouse but keeping the in-laws. That's different.
And so many people apparently need to consult estate attorneys.
Oh! The drama!
not bad, nice twist. 👍👍
Ouch! I would do the same thing! How terrible. I can't believe people are really like this. It just is so insane to me. You know?
Unless you like looking foolish.
yo, Olivia"
now Mama, she told me, Don't marry for money",,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Love Flies out the window when Poverty comes through the door..🤣
Did everyone (including the writers) forget that Olivia said that her friend Noel (DIL) had a child with Eric? In many places MIL Noel & Richard could make a will, possibly leaving a minimal amount to Eric and the rest to the grandchild (with DIL Noel as trustee if they're underage). As always re inheritance matters, get legal advice about what really applies where you live and/or own assets. Adoption may not necessarily be required for DIL.
Going down, down, down, down the drain thanks to the mistress and the disowned son
Do these story writers not know that the word consolation means the comfort received by a person after a loss or disappointment and not money but moral support??
When a person dies they can leave an inheritance to anyone, money, property, r material things.
