  • For more than 30 years, David Freiburger has been carpet bombing our brains with his musings of hot rod culture. From the pages of some of the greatest print titles like Hot Rod, Car Craft and Rod & Custom magazines, to shows like Roadkill, Engine Masters and Hooptie World Championship on Motor Trend, Freiburger has seemingly done it all. Hell, he’s even got his own Hot Wheels car in the form of his 1968 General Mayhem Dodge Charger.
Cars and hot rod culture aside, David also has some of the most amazing stories about his home city of Los Angeles which you can regularly find on his social media outlets. With that said, please welcome David to this week’s episode of the Hemmings Hot Rod BBQ Podcast where we cover all of the above and more!

When David took over Hot Rod and Car Craft (which at the time was known as 'Camaro Craft'), he FINALLY gave a voice and content for Mopar guys. The stuff that he Magante and Dulcich provided from the mid 90s to the early 2000s, is STILL referenced as the definitive how-to and blueprint for how to make a reliable, effective, legitimate street car. Guy is beyond humble for the scope of influence he's had over 35 years.

Roadkill really re-ignited my interest in cars, my dad is a perfectionist so i only ever grew up with vintage American cars that were meticulously worked on, which was a bit daunting because he's extremely knowledgeable and talented. But i bought a 1964 Volvo Amazon after watching a ton of Roadkill episodes and worked on it with my dad with the knowledge that it didn't have to turn out perfect. And it was genuinely something that helped me immensely with my mental health and helped me work things out with my dad as well.

David and Mike will always be the crazy car guys of the RUclips generation. My dad and me would watch their Roadkill shows back in the days like we would watch COPS lol.

It was surprising to me too considering that it's always been a work safe type of show but it was very little.
