  • I had a lot of dreams as a youth. Some came true, but most didn't. Eventually, I stopped dreaming most of those unrealized dreams. But not all.
In the comments, tell me about some of the #MillennialDreams that you're still dreaming.
This song should hit streaming on December 22, 2023... but you'll definitely find it in the places I control:

Mr Seal, fine work. Stay low tech, far more interesting. I'm thinking of recording onto a banana next!

Hey! I've been a silent lurker of your channel for a few weeks now (thanks YT algorithm), but I had to leave a comment to tell you I'm loving what you're doing with this channel. Watching you create awesome songs like this-and seeing the process behind it-is super cool and inspiring to me. The more I watch your channel, the more I wanna bring my own songs into the world. It's fulfilling just getting the ideas onto voice memos and notebook pages, sure, but seeing your work helps me visualize how I could make my own music real, too. I'm Gen Z, but I guess that is my Millennial Dream lol. It'll stop being a dream eventually.
Anyways, I'm excited to see what you'll work on next, and great job on this tune! I love the melody/lyrics/arrangement you've created-and in particular, the B/B7 chord use throughout. It adds this great drama and surprise to the arrangement (especially in the solo omg) that I can't get enough of. Thanks and Merry Christmas!

This comment made my day: I really appreciate that you took the time to leave it!
I vividly remember when my music lived in Voice Memos and notebooks... it wasn't that long ago. (And many new ideas still get trapped in Voice Memos, regardless of how much I like them.) For me, the biggest hurdle was finding a process that I enjoyed and could commit to at a gradual pace. It's taken years for me to be comfortable tracking as I did on Millennial Dreams, but I'm glad to accept the slow pace (and the other downsides of a DAWless approach) as the price of continuing to make things. I'm sure there's a process that you enjoy and that you can bite off in small chunks... and when you find it, I'm confident you'll be able to domino into productions that are as grand (or not) as you want them to be!

Great work man! I’ve been watching your stuff now for a few weeks and am inspired! Love the song, especially that 3rd verse after the solo. Great writing! Your lyrics seem to be touching on a lot of the same themes that I find myself writing about lately, so it’s reassuring to hear others feeling how I do! I have a technical question; did you record this with your tascam DP 006? I’m wondering how you’re getting on with that machine? I like the look of it but I’m thinking about going for the tascam dp 008 ex for the extra tracks.

Thanks for watching/listening, and for this kind feedback! It's comforting to know that you relate to some of those lyrics... and odd, since they reflect some of my loneliest feelings. But that's the way it goes, isn't it? We're never as alone as we think we are.
RE: your technical question, no, I did not use the DP-006 on this project. I did most of the recording with the DP-03SD. I use it for the same reason that you're thinking: more tracks. (I also enjoy having volume sliders, but of course, the knobs worked just as well.) But I could have used the 006 and love both of my digital portastudios. If you're keen to try one, the 008EX looks like a great device.
FWIW, if you're like me, your biggest hurdle may be learning to bounce. By "learning" I mean "accepting the downsides of having to make final mixing decisions with respect to a subset of your recorded sounds." I eased into that acceptance because my early bounces only included a few elements at a time. (Due in part to the track limitations on the 006.) In case you have unease about bouncing, remember that your bounces can include as many (or few) elements as you want. Sometimes, I found it easier to bounce small groups of similar sounds than to a bunch of sounds that cover a wide range of the frequency spectrum.
Thus ends my unsolicited advice. Good luck!

@@JordanSeal thanks for the reply and advice. I ended up going with the Tascam dp03sd which seems very similar to the dp08 but it has faders. Just waiting for it to come and I’m going to get stuck in!
