I think it’s looks amazing. There isn’t a lot of signatures that I want but I want this one. F holds are awesome, headstock looks better. I just love it.
The clipped ear head stock gets a bad rap from people who think it's just a Gibson headstock with the corners chopped off. By it's self it isn't a nice looking I agree. But with binding and using the correct historical size it's typical of 30s era of ornate headstocks. The clipped parts where considered hard to bind and showed the craftsmanship need to make a guitar headstock like that.

My "Wolfe" arrived a couple of days ago. I was inspired to buy it by the long unsatisfied lust for a Trini Lopez and watched an interview with Emily about what she got from a Sheraton. Still, I watched your sage opinion, Trog, first -- so I went in with my eyes open. Finish-wise, it's what you'd expect from a higher-end Epiphone; I mean, it's well-prepped gloss and binding - not nitro. The aged hardware is frosted, not buffed down like a Gibson aged, and the Grover tuners on it are equally satin, making them seem more plastic than usual. However, I didn't get the stepping issue that you seemed to have when turning them, in fact, they were silky smooth. It could be something that Epiphone fixed in production. A couple of days into playing and fiddling with the tone, the sweep on the volume pots seems uneven. The neck pickup (which I think Emily mentioned she never switches away from) is the star performer, and I had expected to be a bit disappointed with the bridge following your comment but after some real tweakage with the master tone and amp, I did get some really satisfying tones out of it. So the pickups are staying. The fretboard does look quite light and dry so I'm thinking of getting some monty again wax to darken and smooth it. In the end REALLY, REALLY pleased with it. I've tried a bit of Wes Montgomery and some Van Halen... sooner or later I'll have to attempt some Foo Fighter tunes. Thanks so much for your review, it helped me know what I was getting. You're a star!
I'd also mention that it seems to have been fret-levelled in the factory... which is good. But if you look at some of the frets, they have quite an aggressive filing (I assume this isn't a plek as I didn't pay for that). You can't feel it under the hand, but at some point, I'd like to take it in to get them polished at a luthier when setup time comes around.
My EC-1000 Deluxe with Fishman pickups is becoming my favorite guitar to play. Plays and sounds amazing for an under $1000 guitar. And the overall quality control is flawless.
@@disco4535 I have a 2020 ESP LTD EC-10 and I think it’s worth $100 more than they sell for. The body is made of basswood and the rosewood fret board looks incredible!

Bought it. I’ve played over 40th years and have owned many guitars but never a semi-hollow. Could have picked up gibson 335 many years ago for cheap but didn’t care for it. They just never felt right. Recently I have a need for one for gigs and I took a chance on this one because of the good reviews and I really dig the look of it. I have to say I am pleasantly surprised how wonderfully it sounds and plays. Just as good and in some ways better than the gibsons I’ve played. For the money you can’t beat it. No regrets and would buy it again. I still want a Duesenberg but no need for a gibson 335 ever. I also have a strange feeling that this thing will double in value in years to come because of its unique look and features and likely limited run.
Despite already having a Sheraton (my second one in fact) and most frequently steering clear of signature models, I can still say I would recommend this to someone that consulted me on the subject, especially if they wanted to chase some characteristics of Emily Wolfe that stem from her playing a semi-hollow guitar.
After watching Emily Wolf perform for the Gibson Garage grand opening and listening to several of her songs, I had to come back and watch this video. She is definitely worth the time and has great music, considering buying this guitar now.
Never heard of Emily Wolfe in my life, but I like her already, just for her good taste in guitars. My dream is to have a 335 (or -ish) model and I'm REALLY DIGGING this one. Too bad I'm in Brazil...
I'd be curious if changing the tightness of the screw on top of the tuner would changing anything with the 'stepping' on the tuners... Maybe too tight? I wouldn't expect that from those grovers, usually great tuners...
I would hope that the gear mechanics inside have not been treated like the cosmetics as that would be pretty poor not to realise the negative effects of not using smooth gearing ... !
I suspect it has something to do with the satin finish. Often the satin finish on metal is achieved with fine grit blasting. The resulting surface has a texture. If the spindle and button are blasted together the surface finish might account for the 'gritty' action. I have the regular highly polished grovers (18:1) and they are super smooth to use.
@@insalinity5558 I tried adjusting the screw on my tuners and it made no difference - the gritty and stiff feel was still there. it was pretty extreme to the point hat they were not really useable to tune properly. But they did look really nice!
Epiphone has really upped their game. For my birthday my wife bought me the Tommy Thayer Epiphone Electric Blue Les Paul and gotta say it's a good instrument and well made. This one looks and sounds pretty good too.
Trogly great job as always and I didn’t even know about this guitar. And I have a suggestion is to get the new Limited Edition Epiphone 1959 Les Paul!!!!!!! I think you might like that one too. And Keep up the good work too
Man I really wish Gibson would add this headstock shape and the original body shape back to the Sheratons. Love it. Although I agree the vintage epiphone headstock really makes epiphone look like it’s own company again, I still feel like reviving the original Sheraton shape and headstock would really make it a key model for the future.
Had to return mine. The tuners were so stiff they were actually grinding when I turned them. Because of the odd colour of them, Epiphone had no replacements. Otherwise I really liked the guitar. Wish they would have caught this tuner issue at the factory.
I have a sheraton for more than 30 years. It still plays fantastic. One dzy changed the pick ups with ger man hausel pickups with a coil split function and avbone nut. Beats a Gibson.
The “Flower Motif” inlay on the headstock is known as the “Epiphone Vine Inlay”. That’s what they called it on my 1988 Epiphone Sheraton. The one on mine is exactly the same shape, but they used abalone, so there’s a rainbow of colors throughout the inlay, and it’s gorgeous! Mine cost $879 in 1987, so the price on this one is not bad at all. I changed the Grover COPY tuning machines mine came with for the REAL ones Gibson uses.
7:38 Emily said in her interview on the Epiphone official channel that the guitar has a single master volume, because the way she holds/hangs the guitar, she can't reach the other volume anyway. Funny, but cool that she really thought about utility.
Could the thing you dislike about the tuners actually be an issue with the nut? Perhaps if the slot is not cut right, it is binding and when the wound strings move through the nut they sort of catch with each winding? Does it do the same on the plain strings? Rad guitar though. Just when I thought I didn't need another...
Awesome guitar! Yesterday my Epiphone ES-339 was delivered to my local guitar shop. It's pretty heavy, but so far I love it! It's a keeper for me, definitely! I prefer the smaller body, but this one intrigues me. I should try it just to compare it to my ES-339. Emily Wolfe is also a pretty cool artist!
I've never owned a Sheraton, but I've played many. Honestly, it's worth the Epiphone price tag. Epiphone really does do good work, especially on their original guitar models, like this, or the Wildkat, or the Casino. They may not be as big as Gibson, but they still carry some of that pre-war pride.
800 sounds well worth it. I spent 800 for my Joe bonamassa epiphone black beauty and that is worth every penny. I've been looking for a semihollow body like a 335. I absolutely love this 🤘🤘 think this will be what I buy when I do get one.
As far as the tuners, it could be the little washers they put in there sticking. You could try backing the screw out a bit and see if it smooth's out, if not it's in the tuner itself
i normally don’t like Epiphones but for some reason i like this Sheraton it looks really cool i would put black hardware on it and definitely change the pick ups overall i like the shape and that it’s black it looks slick to me
I’ve been dying for an affordable Dave Grohl model but this is probably more my style. Maybe throw in some new pickups and a coil split and I imagine it would be perfect. Can’t wait to get my hands on one
Same, I’ve even been looking at the replica Dg-335😬 I know. It’s dicey, but this could be my way of getting one. Only thing I wish it had was the firebird headstock. (Maybe the split diamond inlays too🤗)
A bit of feedback from satin black finishes: I've got a PRS SE in that finish, brand new, back in 2018. It's really cool looking if that's your cup of tea, and comes with the bonus the neck also feels super smooth compared to their sticky-feeling, glossy counterparts. Black specifically will indeed have your fingerprints sticking out like a sore thumb, but nothing a quick wipe with a lint-free rag won't sort out. Do keep in mind the one problem with Satin finishes is that rubbing your palms on it will act as a very mild abrasive and polish it into a shiny surface overtime. Let me tell you my PRS, while not having played but an handful of gigs due to Covid striking halfway through my ownership, it gets played almost daily and it doesn't appear showing any shiny spots anywhere; my sweat is very acidic, too, so it goes as hard as possible. This surely depends of the quality of the finish, as my classical, also in satin, already has the back of the neck full gloss. For anyone interested in buying a satin instrument, I recommend looking online for one heavily played to know the worse you can expect - check for LTD EC-1000 VM or a Schecter Blackjack, two very popular satin black guitars on Reverb, and you should get some realistic results. I was aware of that before buying and did search for it, but don't mind it at all - that's some real relic in my book - but not everyone might enjoy that and there's no way to ever turn it Satin again, only option is then buffing it all into gloss.
@@primeDecomposition thanks for the suggestion, but it won't match the rest of the finish. Satin finishes (at least quality ones) are achieved with a special clear coat that will naturally lay rough to a microscopic level, in a "bumpy" pattern. If you sand it, you'll just cause microscopic scratches that won't look even, it'll stand out more than it did originally. Ofc, you could suggest then just buffing it entirely. It'll then look bad evenly, not to speak making it less durable since you remove the satin coats' top layer and, if you just buff it like that too often, you'll buff through the clear into the base coat in no time.
It looked like the bridge was not intonated correctly. Possibly turned the wrong way arround? The bridge also had a little depession at the third string (G-string). Maybe check this out before reselling it?
$799 Chinny?! Ibanez AS93FM Artcore Expressionist Semi-Hollow Guitar loaded with yummy stuff, i.e.- ebony fretboard! Best part is that it has a beautiful pickup selection wiring- heavy rock to clear jazz. Made in Indonesia. ES-335ish neck. Oh, $699. Puts this thing to shame IMO. Review this one Trog! No fancy bag though. Which is pretty cool.
I googled the guitar and checked it out. It's not bad and has some decent looking hardware. That bridge looks intriguing too but overall. It would appear this one has a slight bit more of an edge. Pau Ferro is a solid fretboard material. The aged gold hardware and satin type finish on this axe is sweet. Let alone the fact that this is an Epiphone with actual mother of pearl inlays. You might find some epiphones with MOP headstock inlay, but to find one with MOP fretboard inlays is even more rare. I feel like this guitar is probably going to go for a premium in the future.
@@maxwellcohen2917 i think i’m still going for this just for the diamond “f” holes. Haha. And it’s black and gold. The lightning is awesome to look at too.
I bought this one,It looks very nice. I am a fan of foofighters and currently there is no possibility of DG335 being released from Epiphone, so I have decided to renovate this guitar,It may be the closest cheap guitar to the DG335. I want to approach the voice of Grohl guitar. Is it necessary to change the potentiometer? At present, I only plan to replace the Gibson Burstbucker 1+2 pickups.
Late to the game on this one. Saw one for a decent price, at least I think, and wanted to see what you had to say. Always a wealth of knowledge man! Thank you for feeding my guitar problem! (?)
Hey Trogly! I've been heavily considering buying this guitar since they started teasing it a year ago. Great Video! Do you know if the pots in the guitar are dime sized, or are they like the rest of the Epiphone line, and are CTS?
Interestingly, there are Epiphone guitars at lower price points that have Gibson pickups and electronics in them. For $800 they could have upgraded the pickups to those or even put in an aftermarket set from some other company. Really nice guitar either way.
"When designing the Sheraton Stealth, Emily Wolfe and Epiphone scrutinized every detail, auditioning numerous pickup combinations to find just the right voice to amplify her signature blues-rock sonic brew. Eventually, they landed on Epiphone’s Alnico Classic PRO Buckers. Featuring Alnico V magnets, the Alnico Classic PRO Buckers lean vintage but exhibit a modern bite and healthy midrange punch. They especially excel at feeding dirt boxes and driving the front end of tube amps. Combined with premium CTS pots, including individual pickup volume controls and a single tone knob, this hellacious pair of Wolfe p'ups guarantee a tone that can't be tamed!"
This was a nice guitar. Maybe not my first choice for $800, but a solid choice for someone who wants a unique-looking Sheraton!

Oh man. I’ve told myself that the next guitar I buy was gonna be a 335 style axe. I may have finally found it. Thank you!!!
Definitely. I have a sheraton ii pro and it is brilliant.
After watching Emily Wolf perform for the Gibson Garage grand opening and listening to several of her songs, I had to come back and watch this video. She is definitely worth the time and has great music, considering buying this guitar now.
Reminds me of the Epi “Dot Studio” I had, it was a “Worn” finish, and yeah, it was hard to keep fingerprints and dust off it...
It's the finger oil I worry about it's hard to get rid of pretty much stains the guitar.
Wow, that's Gorgeous!! Never heard of Emily before, but she has great taste in guitars. I love these Epi semi-hollows, my Riviera is fantastic!
Sheratons are usually really nice guitars. If you wanna 335 but don't have the 3 Grand lying around, I'd definitely recommend getting one.
Never heard of Emily Wolfe in my life, but I like her already, just for her good taste in guitars. My dream is to have a 335 (or -ish) model and I'm REALLY DIGGING this one. Too bad I'm in Brazil...
If you're looking for a 335 type of guitar, check out a Gretsch 2622T. I love mine and for $550 you can't go wrong.
Black and Gold are is my favorite color combination. Right after Red hair and Black Leather.
Who doesnt?
And Keep up the good work too
Cool guitar, love that case! That matte gold finish is really cool....
Hey, Austin,
Look at 5:45 and look at the neck side of the ABR bridge. It looks like it was bent right where the G string passes over it.
Still waiting for mine to ship. Still very excited for it.
Sweet guitar. Emily is a fantastic player who deserves a cool signature guitar.
I love that guitar! Trogly, any chance you could review a Gibson CS356?
I’m holding out for a Dave grohl 335 from epiphone, fingers crossed it happens soon
It’s coming!
Dude, your playing is on fire today. Not too shabby a guitar either to be fair.
Please review the new Jared James signature!
Hey you posted earlier than I was expecting man! Anyway, greetings and well wishes from Utah!
Trogly, what do you think of the Gary Holt LTD signature that just came out?
Thanks for this review! Beautiful guitar. I have a Sheraton 2 for over 10 years, and it PlayStation, feel and looks great. A great Series!!!
I'd like to see that kind of matte gold on a P90.
800 sounds well worth it. I spent 800 for my Joe bonamassa epiphone black beauty and that is worth every penny. I've been looking for a semihollow body like a 335. I absolutely love this 🤘🤘 think this will be what I buy when I do get one.
I’m thinking of getting one and maybe slapping a gloss black pickguard on it. But it’s a hollow body that’s got a matte neck. I need it 😂
I can't decide whether a signature epiphone is a compliment or a slight. Would you please do an ES345 with varitone. Freddy King reissue is my choice.
Derp.
As far as the tuners, it could be the little washers they put in there sticking. You could try backing the screw out a bit and see if it smooth's out, if not it's in the tuner itself
I agree that it might not be the tuners themselves and I’m wondering if the nut is the problem. The slots look too deep and too tight.
i normally don’t like Epiphones but for some reason i like this Sheraton it looks really cool i would put black hardware on it and definitely change the pick ups overall i like the shape and that it’s black it looks slick to me
I like the matte gold too 😍
I would buy it if it came with an ebony fretboard like the Bonamassa Black Beauty Les Paul Custom.
or the bonamassa es 355
Trogly's in the HOUSE!!!
Trog, you’re playing keeps getting better and better. Well done!
I love that satin Black and satin gold or should we call it matt in colour. Really nice looking guitar
Hate the weight but man it sounds awesome. My main thing about a semi hollow body is, can it rock?
I Think I'm in love with this guitar
Gorgeous guitar! I need this guitar!
So.....you didn't notice rhe gigantic chunk of frettboard missing between the fancy double binding?
I got mine a few weeks ago.....keeps up with my Gibson es-335 every day!!
So, when do you predict the Alex Lifeson signature Epi will be released?
Is that a real thing?
Expected June/July in the UK. Shops taking orders now. £799.
@@glennwhitlock1272 ouch. Too much for an Epiphone.
@@BuckFlicks could be, but comes with Floyd rose and piezzo system. Not sure about the pickups, tho.
@@glennwhitlock1272 I just mean too much money for me personally to spend on an Epiphone, even as much as I love Alex.
If this guitar came with Gibson USA or Seymour Duncan pickups I might be interested.
Any chance we will ever see an epiphone pro usa. I've always wondered what you thought about them
Probably not but they are making USA casinos but they are pricey.
Thanks Trogly! Be nice to see these in translucent Ferrari Red. As a stock Sheraton.
(Maybe the split diamond inlays too🤗)
I consider the mini-humbuckers to be one of the best things about the Sheraton, so why would you want to lose those?
Sweet sounding guitar. I have a c. 2000 maple Epiphone dot with the same neck. I love the feel.
Nice playing today!
Love this guitar, hmmm might see this in near future
I prefer the old headstock. It works better with the inlay.
Great video, interesting. In interviews she calls the pickups humbucker 1 and 2 as opposed to 3 and 4 on the prototype. I wasn’t expecting 2 and 2.
It looked like the bridge was not intonated correctly. Possibly turned the wrong way arround? The bridge also had a little depession at the third string (G-string). Maybe check this out before reselling it?
Cool Jimi Page licks before the Uncle Theodore rhythm.
Have you seen the Band Maid signature "Flappy Pigeon"?
Isn't it the Miku signature?
Hi, on my 80s Sheraton tuners are perfect with a screw on each one that hardens or looses it. Cheers
That is one sharp Epi. I normally don't care for gold hardware, but that looks nice.
I'd love to see an Epiphone 339 review!
Thank you for this comment. I have to check the Ibanez first
I googled the guitar and checked it out.
Which is best, the Wolfe Stealth or the Epi Casino Worn in lovely lovely grab olive green?
The hardware reminds me of an Explorer a bandmate had. Whenever he walked to the rehearsal during winter, the hardware fogged up and looked like that
lovely looking guitar. ... on my list of maybes, next to the Green DC
That Epilite case looks pretty sturdy. I like the looks of the satin finish on the hardware. Really goes well with the satin finish on the body.
Have you reviewed the Epiphone Prophecy Series? These are mega-cool guitars.
Just for curiosity, the Pau Ferro fretboard is literally portuguese for Iron Wood
thats cause it is iron wood.
Not sure if they worked out the problem with the defective tuners or if I just got lucky. Mine are smooth as silk like Grovers should be.
He shows them with camera in this vid to be CTS pots ... suggest you watch again !
Open your eyes 👀
What do you think of the E312T ( John Lee Hooker reissue)?
Interestingly, there are Epiphone guitars at lower price points that have Gibson pickups and electronics in them. For $800 they could have upgraded the pickups to those or even put in an aftermarket set from some other company. Really nice guitar either way.
I always wonder how much input an artist has, especially with more budget friendly line like Epiphone.
