      J. Hunto's Garage. Hi. Thank you so much again for making this video. Three additional important points your users should know having followed your video. 1. If you are doing in a Chevy cobalt with the engine still installed you will be doing part of the process left handed for putting the coolant xfer pipe back in. 2. You can't see many bolts for the coolant xfer tube so get your gfs makeup mirror. Its bigger. Yes now you are working left handed and in a mirror against the firewall. 3. I gave up on the alignment bolt. You can hold the water pump in the back while putting in one of the 3 bolts to hold it to the timing chain thing through the little hole. LAST. Get a magnetic 10mm deep socket or play fish the bolts out of the engine.

    A very Interesting and well done sequence of explanations and events you layed out for us on this WP change. By not using that holding tool though shows me you like to live dangerously... nothin wrong with that.👍I may just grab a spare engine and keep it on standby to rob parts off of for the 2013 Terrain I drive.

    Are you sure that is anti-seize? Could it be thread sealant to block coolant from leaking? Anytime a bolt runs threw a coolant passage, Thread sealant is used... However, I am a firm believer in the use of anti-seize!!!

    • @jhuntosgarage
      @jhuntosgarage  3 года назад

      No coolant passages in this area. Good to watch for though!

    Nice write up. Ill add that the 13mm bolt that covers the timing access port, if removing it to get into the timing cover, you *may* need to crack/loosen the upper trans mount bolts as well as the upper engine mount. (I had to and you can find the sweet spot where the 13mm can come out in a hole in the frame rail.)

    Good video, but like he says, get the sprocket holding tool, it's like $20-25, it's worth not jumping your timing, or having to mess with the tensioner.

    • @cometrider2000
      @cometrider2000 6 лет назад

      Yes looks like he may have broke his chain tensioner not by holding water pump gear with more bolts , I saw it way off center at one point.

    please does this mean that it's possible to get antifreeze or coolant mixed with your oil if the water pump is faulty. Because mine is mixing my coolant with my oil, please help because I changed the cylinder head and gasket but the problem persist

      Patience! It's kinda fiddly but not impossible. Maybe step away from it for a while and come back at it fresh. That works for me sometimes.

    What I don't understand is why is there timing marks on the chain that only runs the water pump? You have have to have the intake gear and exhaust gear pointed in a certain direction there's a timing mark on the gear on the crank but there's nothing for a timing mark for the water pump and all they are is gears not really driving anything but the crank and the water pump because the exhaust gear and intake gear ain't driving nothing. Or is that some kind of balancing technique

    • @jhuntosgarage
      @jhuntosgarage  3 года назад

      If I remember right, this also turns the balance shaft. If I remember right. The mark on the water pump sprocket makes no difference. Thanks for watching!

    I did my water pump and the car runs fine no overheating but my concern is theres a loud whining sound pls help thatnks

    • @jhuntosgarage
      @jhuntosgarage  4 года назад +1

      Could be belt related. You can eliminate the belt by removing it and briefly starting the car. Could be the bearing in the water pump as well. Hard to tell from my point of view.

    • @bryangeronimo5524
      @bryangeronimo5524 4 года назад

      @@jhuntosgarage i did remove the serpentine belt but the loud whining sound is still there and i use a stethoscope to locate it.. And its the water pump itself.. Maybe a defective parts????

    • @bryangeronimo5524

      @@jhuntosgarage i think its the bearing from the new water pump is defective cause as u accelerate it gets louder... Note i use the special tool for this job.. Thanks for replying back

      Nope. Your sprocket moved a little and messed with timing cause u prob didn't use the special tool like this guy.

      I'm going to attempt this today, I was wondering, couldn't you just mark the piece that you are trying to hold with the screw and then a mark on the outer case.

    • @martinmarsh7456
      @martinmarsh7456 6 лет назад

      I think I already know the answer to my question, because you are not only holding it in time you are also keeping it from falling down.

    • @jhuntosgarage
      @jhuntosgarage  6 лет назад

      Martin Marsh Possibly. Are you talking about the gear on the water pump? When I did this, several times, I found it not a big deal keeping the sprocket in place. It doesn't have very far to fall either so it won't fall down into the timing cover.

  • @damiandiaz3297

    thats the stupidiest ways to do it and the easiest way to fuck up your timing
