I went away from the solar charger and went with a Speedrite I9000 with a remote. They won’t get close if your poly wire hits at 8k. The remote seemed like a useless expense but it is very useful and worth the extra money.
I totally agree. When I got into sheep we held back for 4 years an selling off the boys. Outside of management I'm big on closed door policy. I don't want to bring in other animals unless needed. We would rather produce our own. In the end they normally be the ones that will be built to survive your farm. Keep up the great job. Enjoy following from northern Missouri.
Karma got you man. LOL leave that smart bus of a girl alone. 627 is smart and has figured out how to get an advantage to fill that tank she has. Sometimes you just need to sit back, watch, and smile at how these animals figure it out. I completely agree with all of your comments about feedstock vs. farm-raised. This can be a significant advantage.

if you have a meat product market, and not enough meat coming through there is an option. If you have the grass of course. you can buy in some 9-12 month old steers and blend them into the herd, they won't mind. It only takes say maximum 3 months for the cattle to clean out their systems from whereever they came from and produce beef that has your grass imprint in them. if you were to buy a lot of 10 steers and have the option to off load 2 to 3 a month, you could service some customers. If there is any misbehaviour the older cows will sort them out.
It's true cattle must not be able to feel the shock through their horns. I watched a neighbor's longhorns cattle use their horn to grab the hot wire and hook it on the barbed ground wire then walk the fence without getting shocked
Breed the best, eat the rest. Works in the garden or field or pasture. Epigenetics has great influence. FMI: Allen Williams (epigenetics), Bjorn Johanson (mob breeding).
Cattle auquisition is always a personal thing,,,,I learnt to totally disregard what they say, and trust my own insincts and gut feeling. One guy I know is super happy with his herd of approximately 600 cows plus their progeny, and the cattle he sells off every month are the fence jumpers, the fighters, the trouble makers. He keeps his best 450 cows always, the rest are fluxuating and his pass mark is motherhood and calmness only. people do different stuff. so what if they miss a calving, they might have had a slight virus when the bulls were in,,,leave the bulls in for an extra 3 weeks,,,easy. murray greys are good mothers. I looked after a herd for a fella once many years ago, and we drove them 300 kilometers and that old cow at the back, the ugliest , slowest, boniest cow was the boss' favourite. That cow was 13 years old and had produced 10 calfs, missed one drought year in calving. The boss said to me the herd only goes as fast as her, and that will be that. it doesn't matter poo bar about how a cow looks, what matters is her constitution, her immune system, her ability to calf, and her ability to be a good mother. the rest is poo bar,,,the cows frame is just the size you want to reproduce. the other things above is most important.
If I buy a cow that I’m not happy with I will hold them through the winter and sell in April/May when prices are higher. If they have a bull calf I’ll breed them back and keep the calf band him and sellas a breed cow, if they have a heifer calf I sell as a pair.
You like what you like brother. Don’t think there is anything wrong with that. You weren’t bashing other people just stating you like your breeds better. Also I hope you got that chicken from underneath the brooder lol
Watch the Tom Lasater video on RUclips, he say a cow has one purpose to raise a calf that can be marketed every year, if not she is culled even if her calf is struck by lightning, that way no cow has a unfair advantage over any of the other cows, a cow has to work for u not u work for them

I wouldn’t buy a purebred heifer to put in a commercial situation. I raise some seedstock and I purebred cattle are not the best for your situation. I also think if a cow can’t raise a calf in my environment she needs to go down the road.
