This was certainly a valuable video Dr. Grande. I appreciated the insight on how to prep the data in excel so that it can be easily transferred into SPSS. The recoding feature is especially valuable.
It is good to know that SPSS supports Excel and that data can be exported from Excel to SPSS with such ease. I like how you explain how to clean up data before export and the most common scenarios that can occur.
This is a super helpful sharing with comprehensive and clear examples what we really face in preparing data importing into SPSS. Especially for the substring thing, thank you very much Dr.
This was a really great walk through on how to scrub the Excel data before bringing into SPSS. I especially liked all the examples of what may come up in different situations. As suggested, keeping a comments column for reference would be helpful.
Such a helpful video. Helps to make sense of how to integrate SPSS and Excel when gathering data. I wish this video had been presented sooner, in the first module even, which would have helped make sense of the videos prior which switched from SPSS to Excel and back to SPSS. I like the idea of coding the worded data into numerical data sets. Excel makes this very easy!
Really helpful. I'm going to email this to a student but with a couple of health warnings: 1. Be very cautious of sorting, if you don't bring the rest of the columns along with the sort; 2. Be very cautious of correcting data without going back to the source material to check and of not recording that you have updated the values in this and the original dataset.
I wish this video would have been presented sooner, I did not understand why we went back and forth in these programs. It makes sense now that it is easier to manipulate recorded data in EXCEL and analyze it in SPSS. Having accurate information in one will lead to more accuracy in the other!
+April Brooks I agree! EXCELL is much easier to record and change, I found it interesting that EXCEL picked up on the find and replace tool male being inside female so female had to be done first. Lots of adjustments to make before importing it to SPSS.
Hi Dr. Grande! Thanks for this video. Question, how would i represent time? Time is an important part of this my study but how do i format it for analysis in spss?
Good informations, very helpfull too. I have another question, very necessery to me. Would you please tell me how to import data from excel do mplus (step by step, please....) Thank you

+Ashley Kilpatrick I agree 100% with you on this! Excel makes this a lot easier, I love Excel for its numerous abilities!
So true Ashley. I never had experience setting everything up in Excel ahead of using SPSS but I can certainly see where it is most valuable to do so.
What if the coding data had 100s of variables??
Thank you Dr. Grande. This was very helpful.

Hi Dr. G. I need help with a data set, can I email it to you with the instructions. I've taken 2 days to figure it out, and so far cannot...
Is it better to leave a blank space in the data set for inapplicable data or to give it a code such as 999 or -99
I like that data can be exported from Excel to SPSS, I feel that Excel is easier to use.
Thank youuuuu!
how to do it for categorical variables more than two levels?
thanks so much
