  • This video demonstrates how to use conditional formatting in Excel to indicate score differences. Icon sets are used to clearly label pretest and posttest differences as positive, zero (or a range near zero), or negative.

Do you need the extra column or can I do this within the posttest column, i tried this and on equal values on both columns it still shows as an increase...

Hi, in your video you said you wanted the difference to be positive whenever the value of the postest is higher than the pre test which makes totally sense. In my book its the other way around. They substracted the posttest from the pretest which gives me negative values even though the actual value is not negative (like it is in your example)
Can you maybe tell me why they didn't do it the way you showed in your video?
    Thank you!!

+Nina McCartney It is just a matter of personal preference. Both methods are acceptable. I chose subtracting the pretest from the posttest so that I would have a negative number when the score dropped, because I believe that is easier to understand.
