  • This video demonstrates how to enter Likert scale data into SPSS. Likert scale data is commonly collected using surveys and is often recorded at the ordinal level of measurement.

WHAT?? Dr. Grande is one of my favorite true crime RUclipsrs and now here I am taking a statistics course in grad school and I come across this tutorial! Incredibly small world, but it makes sense given his background. Thanks Dr. Grande for helping me not fail statistics!

This video was extremely easy to follow. I enjoyed learning the labeling steps and how to set up the data properly. I see myself using this in the future.

I like the Likert Scale due to its simpleness and versatility in use, so it great to see how to analyse the data using SPSS.

This video was one of the videos that was easier to follow and I didn't have to keep rewinding to understand something little.

thank you so much for entering a video like this. it helped me to enter data. I hope for this sort of video again in different tests too. it is simple and also deals only one topic. so that, its easy to remember and follow.

I like the Likert Scale. I think that it is simple to use and can gather useful information. This was a very clear video in how to add the data collected into SPSS. After watching this video, I think I could replicate the steps because it was easy to understand.

This was a very helpful video. I can see me using the Likert scale frequently as I think it can give good data which can be practical and useful. It seemed very easy to enter and made sense.

+Ashley Kilpatrick I agree that I feel like I would use the Likert scale very often. This seems a bit easier to enter than other data we have seen.

    Hi,
I really like your videos. They are quite understandable.
I have an issue with my data. Actually I imported data from Survey Monkey and all the variables are given as string variable. I used Automatic Recode function in SPSS to code all my Likert scale data. But now the problem is that SPSS recodes them alphabetically not as we will do manually (like Very satisfied = 1 ranging to Very dissatisfied = 5). When I tried to change them in values in variable view, it does not matches with the original data. Is there any way to fix this? and will it have any effect on the analysis part like mean or while detecting outliers if I continue with the automatic coding?
    Thank you

A seemingly simple task- but more complex as I have never attempted this. Very helpful!

Yes, I would have assumed we would have entered in the same numeric values for the Likert scales instead of starting at 0. I imagine that we will find out what occurs if we start at 1 instead

Yes, I would like to better understand why we start at 0 versus 1 and what would happen if we started at 1 instead.

    • @DrGrande
      @DrGrande  7 лет назад

Starting at 1 is fine too. There is a tradition of coding variables starting at 0, for example, 0 = Treatment and 1 = Control, however, it is not required.

I think Likert scale is one of my favorite ways to collect data and I like the A1 button that allows us to see the numerical value of the response or the descriptive value associated with the number response.

    Hi
How to code the likret scale "disagree, agree, ..etc" into SPSS? is this the same as in the video "satisfaction"?
my plan is to code it in Excel them move it to SPSS, however, what is is going to be "nominal, ordinal, or scale?
So how can I do "multiple progression" if I have more than one independent variables and one dependent variable in SPSS and how to do reliability analyses for them? Thanks

Gathering data on the attitudes of the population of focus is helpful in understanding the problem clearly. Likert Scale, open/closed, multiple choice questions are frequently used and seems less complicated to transfer into data system.

I have a problem with my data. I have a likert scale 0-4 and another 0-5. However when I imported the data into spss i find that the scale is being calculated 15 and 0-6 which is messing with my total scores. Is there an easy way to fix it please? I tried changing the value labels in variable view but that did not work. Could you please help? Thanks.

What do you do if you have a likert scale 1-10 but your instrument only provides "labels" for 1 (no risk at all) and 10 (extremely high risk)? Values of 2-9 have no labels..

NVM guys, I learned that you have to take average of all the questions of a specific variable and use that for analysis.

    Hello thank for the tutorial
    I have a problem Please
I try to evaluate thé motivation of Drinking on some participant and for it a use thé « DMQR-SF » which is a questionnary of 12 questions and each questions hav 5 items with point ( never = 1 pt, somestimzs =2 pt , half of times =3 pt, much of times =4 pt , everytimes =5 pt) , and each questions Belong to one of the 4 main reason Why thé participant drink alcohol ( expl: questions 1,5,8>social reason; question 3,6,10>Forget problem….etc at the end of questionnary we sum the point of participant in each main reason and thé main reason which has thé Highest score its thé reason Why thé participant drink alcool
Now i try to do it on SPSS, i Créate variable for each main reason , i sum , i create another variable who show me the highest score between thé 4 with command » Max « but thé way is that this last variable dont show me Where thé highest score come from…i am force to go and see thé other 4 variable to see where it comme from it really not good because i have more than 1000 participant… it will be well if you have a solution who show me where thé highest score Côme from so that injust make a fréquency table
