Now this is s game yhat absolutely deserves a remake. Not games that were already massive successes. This concept revisted with a modern 3D engine made to look like this, with crazy particle effects, more branching, a more legit narrative, a more deep combat system and just a longer campaign.. hell it could even be driven by "New Issues" (DLC) that would be really sick and diagetic. *REMAKE GAMES THAT ACTUALLY COULD USE IT! THIS HAS SO MUCH POTENTIAL AND COULD BE HUGE FOR THE MODERN INDIE/AA MARKET OF ACTION-PLATFORMER/METROIDVANIA PLAYERS WANT*
@Max_Difficulty I said remake but what I really mean is a spiritual successor made by an indie/AA team. For some reason this game popped into my head as I played it as a kid, maybe 6 or 7 years old on the PC Sega Smash Pack Vol 3 and showed it to her--so I explained a bit more about it as we watched and we started riffing and came up with the following: • The USP is that the PC travels from comic book to comic book; the twist is that these are either unfinished, never published or extremely old and forgotten. The worlds/"Volumes" are in a terrible status quo and the PC/protagonist is trying to essentially write a happy ending or at least resolve the in universe plot of these graphic novels left abandoned or cancelled in a dire state for the inhabitants. • While still a Beat Em Up taking place on a 2D plane, using a modern engine would enable the widest variety of features and slick stuff, especially for post-release content as this game could hypothetically just have more and more "Volumes" to explore as DLCs. Translating a lot of the awesome effects of Comix Zone with modern particles and physics simulations would be awesome as you could see far more paper flying off your enemies and seeing the color be beaten out of them, functionally a diagetic health display. • The gameplay innovations would be a more powerful and robust fighting system with far more granularity and movement options; mild-Meteroidvania exploration and progression from items/abilities, etc that enable further world exploration and so on. Never gonna happen but you never know, there's been a lotta cool genre revivals and people who took big influence from games of the 90s is still huge in the indie space.

Currently, I believe you can buy it on Steam and play it on the Steam Deck. Nintendo is amazing, but I would be surprised if they actually put it on the Virtual Console.
Awesome game, but why the mistakes in the first five minutes. When you got Roadkill. Let him go in the room with the skeleton in the bottom right of the panel. He finds a secret item. Could have taken the heal bottle for the extra space. And just before you dropped and took damage on the fire barrels, use the switch then walk in the box. (Walking into the switch.) It will push the box away from the wall and you can drop it on the barrels to blow them up and not take damage.
The only option I've seen is this game solo on a cartridge. It came out pretty late, in 1995, and pushed the graphics to their limits, I guess it’s the reason.
