- Bounding onto the literary scene to great acclaim in 1983 with her novel The Life and Loves of a She Devil, Fay Weldon - writer, author and radical thinker extraordinaire - returned to the limelight this year with the highly anticipated (and long overdue) sequel, Death of a She Devil. Dubbed ‘not your typical feminist’, Weldon has lived a colourful life challenging groupthink and bursting bubbles along the way.
Filmed at the Battle of Ideas 2017, this fascinating discussion with spiked editor Brendan O’Neill delves into her works, feminism, transgender politics, the generational divide, satire, Brexit and much more.

RIP Fay Weldon. She was an inspiriting writer and an artist full of integrity.
I've read every one of this lady's books in always desperate for her next one to come out she's a fantastic writer I tell everyone to read her work I love her
He has always liked te the sound of his own voice, but she was an amazing lady and ahead of her time x most of her thoughts and knowledge of what will happen for sure in the future is shat we all think ,and know, but dare not say. She says it as it is , and as it will be , and also as it has been . A very sad loss to us all.
A sad loss of a wonderful writer and woman. RIP Fay.
The sheer contempt so-called feminists have for women who simply want to raise families themselves, is often apparent on the BBC 'Smug Club' (morning television programme) and ITV's equivalent. These people have more in common with the bullying male 'go-getter', than with women, generally. Feminism was to make 'entitled' women even more entitled and wealthy; not to raise the living standards and opportunities of all women. After all, all women cannot be over-paid Presenters on the BBC.
Christ, Feminism was always for the middle/upper classes. Anything good in these strange little islands usually has been.
Very interesting, although there are a few things I disagree with, it made it all the more interesting. Brendan O'Neill's ankles tho......
Hoxton?
Run out of clean socks and had to grab the kids' socks this morning Brendan?
Children's socks (little girl's in this case), are adult socks now.
Why is he wearing girls’ trousers?
She mumbles.
She's old. Cut her some slack.
She needed the microphone to be closer to her mouth.
he is so boring....
