I like that you talked about looping this song because I'm convinced that if I were only given maybe a dozen songs that I could listen to for the rest of my life, this would be one of them.
One of Lindsey Buckingham's best. He's a master at intricate, layered guitar parts. Check out his "Big Love" (live version from "The Dance" concert). Very nice, three-layered guitar tracks, then you realize while watching it that he's playing all three parts simultaneously. And he does the vocal on it, too.
Wow! Thanks for pointing that out! It turns the song from just(?!) beautiful into an extraordinary feat! Addition: I just watched the "Big Love" video. Holy Smokes!
“I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of people covered it.” Well, you might think so, but more likely, a lot of people tried and gave up, because it’s pretty difficult to play! 🤣. Not too many players can finger pick like Buckingham.
I fell in love with this song when it came out. And I was determined to learn it on guitar. It took a while--but I got it. I still play it to keep my fingers in shape. So much fun. And Lindsey is one of those "most underrated guitar players ever." Harri--you need to see some of his live stuff!
@@bkm2797 Let's not split hairs. I've seen numerous lists of "best guitar players" with him not on it. Yeah, I get it--guitar players know him. But many others do not. The same applies to Steven Stills.
davidmckenzie420, I see this comment is different than the one you originally sent me saying 'end of discussion', (wise move). Google this, how well known is Lyndsey Buckingham's guitar playing, and see how many accolades, Top Ten Greatest Guitarist in Rock History, #9 Lyndsey Buckingham. I love Stephen Stills too, not only was he an amazing guitar player, his lyrics and his vocals are so incredibly on point. Love his Manasses Album, and I hope you take a listen to 'Johnny's Garden'.
@@bkm2797 To davidmckenzie420 and bkm2797. Your discussion intrigued me so I did a bit of internet research. One site says he is "widely considered one of the greatest guitarists of all time" and yet in the 2011 Rolling Stone top 100 guitarist list he barely squeaked in at #100. On a list of the top 20 most underrated guitarists he was #7. #2 was Alex Lifeson, #3 was Mark Knopfler and #6 was Billy Gibbons. Seems like he's in pretty good company there. Can we all agree that, no matter who's doing the ranking, he's one hell of a fine guitarist?
@@bkm2797 Manassas is one of my favorite albums... Glad to see that Buckingham got some recognition. I've seen a lack thereof; but it's not worth arguing the point.
From their 11th album, " Rumours" from 1977, this is a pretty song wriiten by Lindsay Buckingham. Said to be written after his break up with Stevie, the guitar work on this acoustic guitar is so phenomenal and the melody so enjoyable. One of my favourites. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Brandon. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Lindsey is a genius❤Perfection every time. You should listen to "Big Love/Go Insane" posted by A Place in Time. It's been viewed 3.7 million times. You will freak out over it.❤😊
Thanks Brandon. I’ve always loved this song with the acoustic guitar. This is one of a handful of albums that I played over and over and over. Such great memories. Great enthusiasm from Harri always makes me smile. 🌺✌️
Loved it when I first heard it all those years ago and most definitely still do, consummate guitar playing and a great vocal by to me, the underrated Lyndsey Buckingham. So enjoyed your excellent reaction sir!
I too loved the finger picking by Lyndsey Buckingham, but the standout for me was that iconic sound FWM creates when they harmonize together. Is there any better harminizing from a band than that from FWM? Argumentative I know, but I feel it's what makes this band so, so great.
You MUST check out the version on album titled "Fleetwood Mac LIVE" in Tempe AZ 1980. It is just Lindsey playing the acoustic guitar sol and is amazing
I saw Fleetwood Mac in Sydney in 2015 . Great concert . Lindsey has a weird finger playing style on electric , but on acoustic he seems to play normal finger picking . One of the great American guitarists .
You should treat yourself to dessert and hear and see the live version with Stevie's backing vocals of The Dance 1997, then also the short Stevie song Landslide: both acoustic highlights, standards and opposites to the wild guitar devil Lindsey as in the songs I'm So Afraid, Not That Fun, Go Your Own Way etc.
I doubt Lindsey thought of making this an instrumental. Everything on Rumours had purpose behind it, they had things to say, if you know their history you know what I mean.
Hands down, my favorite Lindsey Buckingham song. It has morphed and changed over the years. Live performances after 2003 included a duet with Stevie Nicks. On the Super Delux of Rumours, there is an early demo duet of it with Stevie also. Post 2000, he added a lovely guitar interlude that still gives me goosebumps. He also has a long instrument tal intro to it which he often plays on stage before it. Pure magic.
A couple more beautiful guitar pieces that I would recommend are "Blue As You" by Shawn Mullins and "Lewis & Clark" by the acoustic master Tommy Emmanuel.
Lindsey Buckingham said he writes the music first then the lyrics. He has one pure instrumental composition "Stephanie" that he's released - it's on the Buckingham Nicks album. Beautiful. He recorded a bunch of guitar instrumentals for FM songs they used to play pre-concert. A shame they were never released commercially. Funny you have a photo of FM - but it's of an iteration (with Bob Weston and Bob Welch) before Lindsey and Stevie joined.
This is a tough song to play accurately, unless you're a 'natural' finger picker. I've been playing for almost 50 years, but didn't start learning to finger pick until I'd been playing for over 25 years, and the stuff that goes beyond 'basic' Travis picking is tough for me. I started learning this and was getting it down a couple of years ago, it was a slow process for me, but unfortunately my elbow tendonitis started really flaring up and I gave it up. Kudos to anyone who can play this well.
Lindsey Buckingham is underrated finger picker. His name is not mentioned with the greats. One think is that Stevie Nicks was the big draw, but Buckingham and John McVie, the bass player, were legit instrumentalists. I'm talkin' seriously great. Both their names are never even really mentioned as players. There are still songs by them I've never heard. I could listen to Lindsey just play with nothing else and be totally spellbound: ruclips.net/video/Y7hQpcMdNLo/видео.html
One of Lindsey Buckingham's hit songs when he was separated from Fleetwood Mac so actually it was his song he wrote he just played it with the group when performing a times. I still liked him better when he performed with the band I did not care for him when he left the group he wasn't the same.
I think this song has a good bit in common with the acoustic instrumental "Slat Key Soquel Rag," recorded and released the year before by FM's label-mates, the Doobie Brothers. Not a copy, far from it, but definitely sounds like an influence.
One of the greatest guitar performances ever

yeah his live cut of Big Love from that concert is one of the best live performances you'll ever see. Such a talent.
If I could only listen to one more song before I died, I think this would be it.
Another example of why "Rumours" is one of the best selling albums of all times, thank you Harri
yeah not a bad song on it. so many singles from one album. like Boston's first album or Hotel California. almost wall to wall hits.
This sounds slightly different from the album version, but still very nice.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of people covered it.” Well, you might think so, but more likely, a lot of people tried and gave up, because it’s pretty difficult to play! 🤣. Not too many players can finger pick like Buckingham.
I know Tommy Emmanuel could play it and I'm willing to bet Bruce Cockburn could. But they're at the very top of their craft.
The entire Rumors album was unbelievably awesome. 💜
Some of his live performances of this song are even better
One of my favourite songs! Lindsey's finger picking is unreal.
World Turning

Lyndsey was never underrated, everyone knew what an incredible guitar player he is, I know because I was there.

@brandonious7732 So nice of you Brandon. Can't wait. Thank you. 👍✌️🎶🇨🇦❤️🇺🇲🤗
I love their live version of I'M SO AFRAID from the album The Dance...his guitar solos are epic
I love the song I'm So Afraid, it's my favourite track on FM album. I like a live version too seen on '76 Rosebud.
He is the making of the band 💯 %!! Great guitar and vocals!!!
and songwriter, arranger, producer and later engineer.
This has been one of my favorite Fleetwood Mac songs since first hearing it when the album came out.
Hari, good job as always. You deserve to hear Chris Rea's, Giverny and Winter Song.. beautiful pieces of Rea's greatness
Love this little tune, this is Lyndsey with some of his most clever guitar pickin, and yes it's very catchy.
Thanks Harri

always love that track, and very nice comments you have made, Harri!
Lindsey played the guitar and sang the song. Incredible.
HARRI YOUR COMMENTARY MAKES MY DAY
This album is awesome I remember listening to this album while traveling across the US on a trailways bus so many memories thank you Harry
I recently saw Lindsay in concert and this song was a religious experience! I second “Big Love” and “Tusk” as well!!
Thanks Brandon. I’ve always loved this song with the acoustic guitar. This is one of a handful of albums that I played over and over and over. Such great memories. Great enthusiasm from Harri always makes me smile. 🌺✌️
The album that almost never happened became one of the greatest ever, EVER.
love your stuff H.
Love his guitar. The great Lindsey Pluckingham.
You can all use that one, standing ovation
OFF OF THE EPIC 77 ( RUMOURS ) HARRI 😊 THAT'S LINDSEY FINGER GUITAR SOUNDS FOR YOU HARRI, FYYYYYYRRRRR! 😊
Loved it when I first heard it all those years ago and most definitely still do, consummate guitar playing and a great vocal by to me, the underrated Lyndsey Buckingham. So enjoyed your excellent reaction sir!
My favorite Buckingham guitar piece. Love so much!
Ohhhh I love this!!!! Great job Harri so glad you did this!!
The whole Rumours album is a masterpiece!
The sound of the strings is SO GOOD

It's excellent, but I have to say there are many more that harmonize equally, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young for example.
The gorgeous harmonies are a very underrated part of this song
The Eagles, and the Little river band. And Doobie bros.
I hope , have you gone on to listen to the live versions of this?
Brandon - What a superb choice, and I have been a big fan of Lindsey Buckingham and Fleetwood Mac overall. Great review, Harri.

Lindsay Buckingham, Mark Knopfler, Glen Campbell … among many “unknown” guitar virtuosos who need more recognition for their art.
On the Deluxe Rumours set, there’s at least one demo that is just instrumental. Sublime.
Awesome song from a classic album. That's an album you should add to your collection.
I knew you’d love this one. Your joy on these reactions gives joy out to others-paying it forward, friend!

It does all the elements of an instrumental
He had enough. I get that for sure.
Sometimes less is more, simple song but so effective and beautifully played. It does sound a little bit different to the album version.
You would like his instrumental called Stephanie from the Buckingham Nicks album
Not the first often that a studio recording gets Harri to give a standing ovation
"SECOND HAND NEWS".....!!!

I'm sure you've heard it before. It was probably this song, it got airplay like the rest of the album. Figure this came out in 1977
Been down THREE TIME. The live version.

I prefer his later performances of this as grandpa buckingham its slower and grittier

Lindsey Buckingham is amazing!!
just try to play it lol vary vary hard lol but sound so easy
Peter Green was the original Fleetwood Mac he sucks he left but he didn't care the way they were changing
Green had mental issues...serious breakdown.
That guitar is hard to play
