Most of the products she used are more than five to ten years old. Translucent Powder Base has been discontinued for over 6 years. The eye shadows are dry and powdery in a few of the colors because of age. She had wet one of the colors as she layered the shadows. The different finishes of the shadow will play into texture. The boxes will show the difference. She stated the price of the products which a not completely accurate, Merle Norman Studios are individually owned therefore there is suggested retail price to the social economics of their area. The prices she quoted are Los Angeles, California price point. It is totally understandable not everyone can like every product. Different preference is good for individuality. She absolutely applies her makeup beautifully!!! Melissa has awesome techniques as well!

WOW...I have watched a lot of makeup videos and this one takes the cake!! You admitted in a response below that you didn't realize how old some of the products were but you still didn't take the negative video down so I'll say this. Using products that are extremely old, that you simply do not know how to apply, and that are not made for your skin type will not make for a good trial of ANY PRODUCT LINE. Also, you're quoting prices for on line purchasing from MN Corporate and not from a local MN studio. I've don't pay this much for MN. Some of these eyeshadow colors are REALLY OLD and it's no wonder they are not as luxurious as they once were. I've been a licensed cosmetologist for 32 years. I've sold many different brands of makeup in my days and have done makeup for pictures, TV, weddings, proms, funerals and everything in between. Merle Norman has been in business for 90 YEARS for a reason. Their products are actually moderately priced and the ingredients are some of the best. Just because they don't advertise their special ingredients in a place where everyone can find them doesn't mean they are not there. Studio owners are trained on products so you can go in and try them before you buy them with the help of an expert. If you've watched this video please go to your local Merle Norman to try these products out for yourself!!

You quoted online prices only. Online prices are $5 to $10 more per item, so I would encourage a person to go into their local store for best prices. Also, the items you reviewed are old or seasonal and they are not well suited for your skin type, color, or skin concerns. You have oily skin and the Flawless Effect Foundation is made for Normal to Dry skin types. Since the products are old and not well suited for you, why not go to a local Merle Norman and get products that will work best on your skin. This review is not fair at all.

Not a fair review of the brand if the make-up is from 2016.

powder base is the first merle product it was used as a burn savv early on and the is why it smells "weird" to you. Its actually really good for the skin so is most of the things but I really encourage you to look up the story about every product

I used to manage a Merle Norman studio years ago, and I still use many products of theirs to this day. For your skin, I would’ve definitely recommended the lasting finish foundation, it’s perfect for oily skin! Also, their skin care is hands down some of the best I’ve ever tried! Other than Dermalogica, I have never had Such beautiful skin than when I used Merle Norman Products.

I was a little confused about your answer to the skin care . Sorry . I use their skin care . Are you saying you don’t use their products anymore and Dermalogica is a better skin care ? Thanks

Hey guys! So it's been a while since I've checked on my channel since I've been doing some other things lately. I want to let you guys know that I see your comments below and apparently this makeup is pretty old. I should have known since a lot of it wasn't on the website, but with how quickly brands discontinue products and come out with new ones, I didn't think anything of it. I also just received this makeup within the past year from a friend's mom, so I assumed that she tried it out and gave it me to right away, and not that she gave it to me five years later lol. I hope that I can try out more Merle Norman products in the future since it seems like they have a lot of fans! This review wasn't supposed to turn out as negative as it did, I was just reviewing what I had. Point of the story: Check out Merle Norman and others' reviews since this one is likely not super accurate!

I too went to Merle Normon studio when I was 15 and was hooked. It saved me through oily acne years to normal years to today's dry years at 76. I love their products and nothing else has ever worked the same on my skin, keeping me looking 10-20 years younger. I sincerely thank all the MN the kind ladies who've assisted through the years, showing me new products, makeup demos and advise as my skin has changed. They're my makeup heroes. Unfortunately, the only store within 100 miles closed 20 years ago and I really miss the free makeup demos and new products. Melissa, I strongly recommend you visit a Merle Norman Studio where they'll match their products to your skin, from cleansers to moisturizers to makeup up that's best for your skin type and color. Besides it's free and it's fun. Like the rest of us, you won't be sorry.

Hey girl, that floral eyeshadow palette is from the Spring 2016 collection ... why did this lady give you old products? Not ok! Merle Norman products are amazing... I used to work for a studio. Please give them another shot bc these expired products are oxidized... Sending you hugs

Thank you for reading the comments and taking them into consideration. I had Cushing’s disease which caused me to have horrible dry skin and horrible acne. Merle Norman is the only make up I use (I use 2 products). I use some of the skin care as well. I love the MN store because it’s very small. There are not tons of shoppers, being I was extremely self conscious of my face having little to no shoppers was a huge plus for me. 💜 I’ll most likely be a faithful customer until I decided to stop wearing makeup period.

    Hi Melissa!!
I am in the process of buying a Merle Norman franchise, I also work there now.
Thank you so much for making a video, no one really speaks about Merle Norman anymore. As a 19 year old I love it.
All prices at all Merle Normans are different since it is a franchise and the owners create the prices themselves. Thank you for supporting a small business.
I have some videos on my channel using Merle Norman skincare if you would like to check it out.

Love Merle Norman products and I was excited to see a review but unfortunately it’s just not accurate. Prices are less expensive in store because the company loves their studio owners and want you to go in store for shade matching etc.. I haven’t seen those products in years so they had to be old. Overall I appreciate you reviewing them but would love a current review with products not expired and made for your skin type. I think you would love them!

I have used Merle Norman for 46 years, ever since I started wearing makeup. I am 63 and people constantly tell me my skin looks great. I credit some of that to using Merle Norman. I never used "junk" makeup. This video is not helpful. Go to a Merle Norman Studio and have a professional who knows and understands the products explain them and then you can make an educated decision. My 46 years of experience says something different than this video portrays.

I’ve been using MN for 23 years. I have always been extremely loyal to it, but recently have moved on to other brands. They are really great products but I doubt they’re going to stay around for much longer because they do not market their products to bring in the younger crowd. I know they’ve been around for decades, but their customer base is getting older and most of the younger girls don’t know anything about Merle Norman. If you mention Merle Norman to the younger ones, they ask who is that lol. A company cannot survive that way. I don’t care how long they’ve been around, someone needs to tell these people that they need to market and bring in fresh customers.
I’ve used Total Finish, then Aqua Balance (loved that one), and lastly CC Cream. The last one I do love but the pump always gives out about halfway through the tube and I ended up having to cut the top off to get to the rest of the product. After doing that the last 2 times, I gave up and went to Lancôme and now I’m trying Tarte.
Every time I go into a Merle Norman, it’s always older women and the advertising is very dated.
The products really are good, but there are others that are much better and MN seems to be in a rut. It has become too comfortable and when a company refuses to keep up with the market it’s only a matter of time before they’re in the past.
It’s a shame that whoever currently own/runs this company isn’t investing in the future of the company to draw in a younger customer base.
When I think of Merle Norman nowadays, I think of Mary Kay. It is kind of the same feel. MK had a loyal base but they didn’t keep up with the times and eventually died back. They’re still out there but who uses that anymore 🤷🏻‍♀️

Some of these products are old and that's why you're not having a good experience with them.
I've used Merle Norman products for many years along with many other high end brands, and I always get the most compliments on my skin and makeup when I'm wearing Merle Norman.
Their makeup and skin care products are some of the best I've ever used, and they really do perform the way they're supposed to.
Please go to a Merle Norman Studio and let them show you some products that would be better suited for your skin type. They will be happy to give you generous skin care and makeup samples and even show you how to apply the products if you'd like.😊

Merle Norman trains its employees to match your foundations, powders, and other products to your specific skintone. These products were likely selected to the specifications of your friend's mother. Its no surprise they don't fit your skintone.
Furthermore, most of these products are beyond expired. Some of them are clearly years old. Do you have any intention to remove this video considering your "review" is based on products that would never be sold to you (or anyone for that matter, given their age)? Or will you leave it up to all 12 of your viewers to go spelunking into your comment section for your retraction?

The Merle Norman products you reviewed were not compatible with your skin. The 24 kt gold firming foundation primer is amazing. If you are oily the Lasting foundation would be best. With the Ultra Powder foundation. The eye shower primer is also amazing! The eyeshadow you used is so old or it would go on very smooth & not look heavy! I would love if you went to a Merle Norman Studio & use products that are not over 5 years old. Then do a review! Huge difference! Do you always review products that are so old that NOBODY should put on their face?

@@auntiem71 Oh no I'm quite serious. Some of these products haven't been on the shelf in years. This is the makeup equivalent of writing a review of a restaurant based on month-old leftovers from the back of a friend's refrigerator.

Exactly. Merle Norman products are really nice. This review is just awful. She should actually go buy new, fresh products that are best sellers like lip pencil plus, blushes or tinted moisturizer. Not a bunch of expired makeup used by someone with completely different than her. Yet this review remains up and is a disservice to MN.

This product has been around for 99 years. That’s their selling point. So yeah, a lot of the products have been around for a while and some have not.I love that it has. But at the same time, I want to love the products more than they are worth. It’s super expensive for not app that great quality on my skin.

I have dry texture skin and I use the same foundation you did in the video. It brings out my pores big time. The bronzer you used, I’ve used as foundation and it’s even worse. It actually rubs off instantly all over the place of you use it as a foundation! If you have an itch, forget about it. Better pat that itch and even then it’s coming off

Cheap otc does not work: they don’t have the quality.
Besides Merle Norman is all USA MADE and they do not test on animals.
It has a large variety- you need to go in person and pick out what works.
As for the price it is comparable to Este Lauder, Clinique, NYX etc
Maybelline and cover girl are horrible.
I’m sorry you don’t like Merle Norman , you probably don’t like Chanel or Gucci either.
It isn’t for everyone but neither is supermarket make up
