Claudia dean discovers the strange internet shopping phenomenon known as “ASIAN SIZING!” ...it doesn’t matter what size you actually are, in Asian sizing it’s always a XXL if you are a normal human being (side note, I have many Asian friends who also find “Asian sizing” to be based on some fantasy that we are actually Barbie doll sized)
K. Morrighan-Buenafe asian sizing is just based on asian body types. In Asia they’re generally smaller. But it’s a different country anyway so of course sizing will be off. I’m size small but in asian sizing I’m a medium. So it’s not too much of a difference.
HeartAndSeoul I worked in a Spanish clothing shop in Asia before and I find people think they’re size s (even insisting for xs) to find out they’re actually M lmao However, if you buy from Wish or Taobao, they have poorer quality control, sometimes a size S is like not even going to fit ONE thigh.. unless you’re 8 or 10 or something
Claudia trying to put on the tutu is literally me trying on all my old costumes persuading myself they still fit so I can keep them all! 🙈 as usual Claudia is a beautiful ray of sunshine making isolation so much better. 🥰
My husband ordered a “kilt” from Wish. I have no idea what possessed him to do that but he got a flimsy green plaid pleated skirt (I’m pretty sure it’s actually a woman’s skirt) with buckles attached to look “Celtic”. It’s hilarious!
I was thinking about ordering one for my nephew but then I saw what they looked like. I bought some beautiful material that matched his uncle and dads and bam I made a kilt in one day.
Unfortunately in ballroom there isn't really a canvas slipper equivalent in the shoe price spectrum. So beginners often start with questionably-manufactured ballroom shoes, which I used for about a year when I first started. They were fine to start to learn steps and proper technique. ...BUT OMG they were so uncomfortable and they died so fast. So for a broke college student, it was fine... but now that I've been dancing for almost 10 years, like you said-- never again. I should mention, since I am poking some fun at the poor manufacturing, that I don't mean to poke fun at the actual laborers. They are likely getting paid horrible wages, and have to focus on quantity rather than quality. It's another reason why it's soo sad that these uber cheap products are so popular.
When I started Argentine Tango in college, I used inexpensive character shoes from a local dancewear shop. They were super comfy and lasted me two years before I was ready to splurge
@@sparrow8072 I start all of my folklorico dancers on character shoes. When they move to top level and have danced minimum two years I then purchase the semi pro shoes. My dancers that complete get the professional shoes.
Absolutely! I just wrote an essay of a comment on another thread about how awful fast fashion is, and how we can avoid it- all the things we can do to buy (or make) better clothing, and take care of that clothing so we can wear it for decades to come (especially if you buy basics, or have a vintage style, because you never have to worry about fashion changing).
@@katherinemorelle7115 yes! Also producing that many clothes uses a TON of water (not literally, but a lot)! I don't remember the exact numbers but it's SHOCKING.
I just wanted to say, I've been ballet on youtube for a few hours, being introduced to this completely foreign world, by randomly seeing one of your video's, has been interesting to say the least, I will probably have to go to The Royal Copenhagen Ballet some time soon. This has been really fascinating to watch, thank you for introducing me to ballet. I absolutely adore your passion.
Can you do a vid of equipment that can help you with flexibility and ballet moves? Thx for the likes and support for the idea I have I didn't know so many people would want the same vid
Thank you! Finally there's a video that encourages people to buy their staff from companies other than Amazon and Wish. Obviously there are so many reasons to do so, but maybe it will help more if you guys see that you don't get quality there.
My very first pair of ballet tights as self-conscious 13-year-old had that unfortunate problem, as well as being insufferably warm. Shorts or wrap skirt needed asap!
This video was so funny. Claudia you cheered me up today with your warm positive happy nature trying on those Wish items. Can we see more try-ons please?
I find it really sad that humanity is spending our limited resources to produce items that serve to no purpose whatsoever, expertly momentarily enrich the big business companies which organize the production and sale of them. I feel bad for the employees who work in the factories where most of the these extremely-low-quality products are made. These workers are payed a shamefully tiny wage; they often are not protected by union laws; effective federal laws and human rights may be lacking for them as well. Too sad. That's just my opinion.
Kylea Brown it was english, if your problem is that it is to difficult to read use a thesaurus and exchange words or google the definitions in think she made a good point
Honey, it’s not just your opinion, it’s fact! They make extremely low quality items from low quality materials, in horrific conditions for their employees, and are absolutely atrocious for the environment. They’re sweatshops. Just like the ones you see on the news occasionally when one collapses and kills a thousand people, or there’s a fire and heaps of employees die because the managers locked the doors so they can’t leave (both of these are real life examples). There’s a documentary about the fast fashion industry that I really recommend on Netflix, called The True Cost. I wish everyone could be informed about how awful the industry is, and that we could stop with the fast fashion (along with all the rest of the cheap crap places like Amazon and Wish sells). Save up, buy higher quality items less often. Buy items made from high quality, mostly natural fabrics that actually feel good on your skin and aren’t plastic (polyester is plastic, and it’s why you sweat so much wearing it- imagine wearing a plastic bag in summer. That’s basically what you’re doing). Learn what good sewing and construction looks like (Justine LeConte on RUclips has a series that teaches you what to look for) Buy basics that never go out of style. Buy clothes that already fit with what you already own- make a capsule wardrobe!Mend your clothing when it needs it, instead of just throwing it away and buying more. Take care of it so it lasts longer. Pay attention to the care instructions on your garments (Justine also has a video about what those symbols mean). Wear cotton or linen undergarments like slips or undershirts under your clothes- not only do those fabrics breathe really well (so less sweat), they also protect your clothing from the sweat and oils on your skin (this is a historical thing, it’s only within the last 80 years that we’ve stopped doing this). There are also underarm sweat pads to help soak up sweat and prevent sweat stains on your clothes. You could also make your own clothing! You could pick a style that’s already out of fashion so you never have to worry about trends (this is a personal one, my style is late 1940s/early 50s). But because it’s not on “trend”, I never have to worry about it- those clothes will always look good regardless of what happens with fashion. Buy your clothes from op shops/thrift stores. Not only stuff you can wear immediately, but also things you can “renovate” to look awesome. That’s a cheap option, likely cheaper than what you can get from fast fashion. But please, please, don’t buy fast fashion! It destroys the environment and literally kills people. And for what? A crappy quality, cheap item that falls apart after three washes? It’s not worth it. Sorry for the essay guys, but this is so important! And you really, really don’t have to be rich to not engage with fast fashion. I’m on a pension. Learning to sew helps (I do make some of my own clothing), and I save up to get things from ethical companies that make nice clothes that will last me for decades to come. Sewing machines aren’t that expensive, and everyone should have a hand sewing kit (they’re super cheap, maybe $5-$10) on hand for mending. And it’s easy to learn to sew- heaps of tutorials online, and you’ll actually have clothing that fits you perfectly! Fast fashion can’t compete with that!
Also, I’m not saying that Claudia was bad for buying from Wish. If anything, this video might prevent others from buying there, so I think it’s an overall good thing. There are online lists, and even an app I think, that helps people find ethical clothing brands. But honestly, even better than that is buying secondhand.

And this is why you should order from dance wear websites , however I did order ballet shirts from amazon and they gave me Capezio’s so that was great!
I've always wondered about their ballet "products"... now I know. It was much fun watching! You do it with such joy and truth. :D (I almost got "teacher shoes" from them... maybe can you do a review on good ballet teacher shoes? My knees and low back always hurt when I finish 5 hours of teaching. )
I have actually had a lot of luck with Wish. I bought a wonderful leotard, great ballet tights, a white practice pancake tutu, and a Giselle romantic tutu that all look great and for perfectly. One wrap skirt I bought feels like pure plastic though.
Ok, so the major rule with ordering from wish is to order at least 2 sizes up in anything that you buy. They usually size it based on Chinese sizing and a Medium for them would be like Extra Small here.
The first mistake was ordering her normal dancewear size! M = XL or XXL in Asian sizing, and most Wish products do seem to have a disclaimer along this line; but, it's always a guessing game with online ordering, isn't it. However, there was no saving that red leotard even if it was in her proper size, and I'm not sure the tutu in XXL would have been long enough through the torso for Claudia (and definitely not as funny to watch her struggle out of). This is giving me pause on pressing purchase for the dance items currently in my Wish cart, but I am excited to see the results of Claudia's Wish haul round 2.

One wrap skirt I bought feels like pure plastic though.
You have to order up 1,2 sometimes 3 sizes.
Omg the intro is the best!! 😂💕
Every time the leotard came undone her face was like: 👁👄👁
Ok, so the major rule with ordering from wish is to order at least 2 sizes up in anything that you buy. They usually size it based on Chinese sizing and a Medium for them would be like Extra Small here.
When she got out the tutu I almost had an aneurysm, it was so small! I laughed my head off.
I was crying-laughing when watching you try to get the tutu off 🤣
These are great do more videos like these! 💖
What are lyricals for? I dont dance, but I love to watch pointe shoe fittings. I know nothing about ballet, but you all just look so beautiful
