- In this video, I venture into the Chiltern Hills to find the perfect stick to craft a pole spear for a spearfishing adventure. I chose boxwood, renowned as the UK's hardest wood. Boxwood is prized for its density, fine grain, and durability, making it ideal for detailed carving and high-strength tools. Its uses range from intricate woodworking and musical instruments to high-quality tool handles and now, my pole spear.
Throughout the video, I meticulously carve the boxwood into a straight, sturdy shaft and attach a barbed spearhead to it. After months of anticipation, I travel to the Dorset coast to test my creation.
In the waters of Dorset, I target wrasse, a common and colorful fish found along the rocky shores of the UK. Wrasse are known for their vibrant colors, robust bodies, and strong fighting spirit, making them a popular catch among spearfishers. Their diet consists mainly of crustaceans and mollusks, contributing to their firm, tasty flesh.
Join me in this journey as I combine traditional craftsmanship with the thrill of spearfishing, showcasing the unique qualities of boxwood and the vibrant marine life of the UK coast.
Brilliant.
Vito’s jittering is wild, and you are a veritable baddass. I want to camp in those dense bushes 😉
@@KevinsDisobedience Same, its a scary place
Great job Simon! I love this type of video. I remember your long bow project. There must be a story behind your leather belt?
@@brettbrown9814 I wish there was a story behind that belt. I'm just cheap and never buy new clothes. I've had the belt for years now. The inside of it has sharpening compound on it and I use it to strop knives and axes, that's why it was flapping about 🤣
Had no idea the tips are so sharp you only need to tickle the fishes back.
@@davidbeckham Yes, once on a holiday to Croatia I witnessed a child stab himself in the foot with one. A block appeared out of nowhere with a pair of bolt cutters and a fag hanging out of his mouth. I hope the child was ok in the end
@@MrDesmostylus I hope the child made good eating
