I just got a promotion to mid level artist after my first 3d job being hired as a Junior artist. Its very cool to have conversations with my art manager and think about what we try to do with meshes and textures and how to optimize them. Its also interesting as I now work in VR when I thought id be working on video games. Surprisingly, topo doesn't matter as much as Im just doing static items or these items only have a few states. So it actually took my manager to come up to me and say you know you dont need to have such good topology for certain jobs. And it was definitely a learning curve!
Right! That's why I always say in my videos that it's the context that matters for how you create your assets. VR will have different needs than something like feature animation.
@@jakkdlaw I still have limits for my job. In my initial comment it even says "topo doesn't matter AS MUCH" meaning it still holds value. Also my comment had more to do with perfect topology rather than not having a model "optimized". We have a 200 million dollar contract with the government, so our applications are fine :)
@milosh226 staffs indeed, year 2020-2021 with Elliott (course 2020-24). And oh man, a lot of good lecturers left cause of the crappy salaries and workload for them given by the uni. Don't mean to scare you but it's the worst time to join that uni, therefore do as much as u can from external sources! All the best!
@@ion9270 Yeah it really is a shame, I'm in my last year now, I also got the opportunity to learn from stuart which I'm thankful for, but I'm super excited to work on my own projects after I graduate! Thanks for the advice, it's the same I've been giving some years below, seems that many people are quite disapointed with the direction things are heading here, but im keeping my chin up :)
Man I teach High School 3D Modeling & Animation and your content is GOLD! I love the detail and the “why” behind everything…which is why I often share your content with my students!
The first model I made and painted couldn't pose and I didn't know how to virtually unwrap and look for overlapping vertices but I was so proud of it. It was a blue monster with painted on eyes. The eyes was spheres that I remeshed with the body. It was a blue monster with three fingers and three toes. It's three years later and I use RUclips and have learned so much. Retopo, posing ECT but I'm mostly self taught when working out bugs and errors that are not commonly explained. I call it the error/ remedy method and it really matters.
Thank you sir. I saw you on Facebook and subbed immediately here. I'm not very good at Blender but I work mostly in low poly to study animation. I do sculpts but only to use their normals details on low poly.
My mentor once told me that the topology depends solely on its usage. Such as for vfx, closeup and wideshot will have two different topology depending on how much pixels they showed.
Love these topology insights. I've been learning Blender for almost a year now and have been really focusing on the fundamentals to ensure I have solid foundations. Currently working through procedural shader networks, but I will for sure be picking up your modelling course. Thanks for the amazing videos!
What 's bugging me in the comparison between Kratos models is how much better the neck topology looks from GOW3 compared to the new one. One follows neck muscles, the other looks like quickly slapped on Zremesher with some tweaks? It makes the old model look a bit more impressive, in terms of topology techniques. Also thank you, this has been a very informative analysis!
its default face :))) prob they use that for blendspace face models also, so they needed extra topology ;) Try to make a face/character for PSP 1/2 . Dif era

It was weird at 6 minutes, 52 seconds. The picture of the person throwing the grenade. If you look at the elbow. The elbow looks really odd like it's deforming oddly. When the person's got their arm bent doesn't look like a person's elbow joint flexing

In my humble opinion pls optimize as much as possible since applications these days take up so much system resources.😊

Wow, didn't even think you know Elliott! He was my 3D Modelling (Maya) lecturer at Uni, super cool dude! Big like for both of you!
Yeah, he's a great guy!
Staffs right? I'm learning there now, Elliott left just before I got to have him as a lecturer unfortunately but his youtube stuff is great!

Oh no Im also at the Uni on my last year 3D Art and that's a real shame if that is the case

That's awesome to hear, keep spreading the knowledge!
This video is truly a gem to the 3d community. Thanks man ❤️
Appreciate, this was a fun video!
Good stuff brother!
Thanks man! 🙏

Giving out this golden information for free, thanks, I learned a lot from this vid
Glad it was helpful!

Awesome to have you on board!

Absolutely, the context matters for how the asset should be modeled
Awesome video!
Glad you enjoyed it!

Hey yo, thanks a lot for the video brother
Appreciate it!
great video! I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Awesome, thank you!
Amazing insights, defenitely gonna check out that OW video.
It's a fantastic resource!
Great video.
this was insightful
I love your videos .❤🔥
It´s so Important to Understand Topology and the Purpose for a Topology. The Topic is to rare Discussed.
Yes! That's what I'm hoping to shed more light on in future videos!

few year before , and i would have continued modeling lol this shit is amazing
😁

which board is that? is that good? if you dont mind - which member ship did you get?

Yeah, looks like they only cared about the silhouette of the model. There's definitely weird things going on
Seeing this I can only think of: Garden of baban
Didn't know what that was until this comment, now I wish I didn't lol
@OnMars3D Understandable man🤫
👏👌
💪
Can you please share this board please

it's ok to use AI and the old fashioned way. A kind of combination of the 2. Terry
its a model is not gonna deform, honestly fkc topology, this time waster needed to be AI solved YEARS AGO
