  • There are a lot of people involved in construction projects which is why it's important to know how you can manage them properly to create a good experience for everyone. In this video, I'll share tips on how to manage subcontractors in construction!
How To Create A Remarkable Experience For Trade Partners
    1. Become a partner to them and support them with a hands-on approach.
    2. Reward good trade partners. Cheapest bid does not mean cheapest cost.
    3. Buy out trade partners transparently.
    4. Prepare trade partners well in the quality process.
    5. Get a schedule with flow.
    6. Involve trade partners in the last planner system.
    7. Provide a safe, clean, organized project.
    8. Create proximity with trade partners.
    9. Take care of their people.
    10. Partner with trade partners on procurement.
    11. Hold trade partners accountable.
    12. Get involved and build relationships with higher levels of management.
    13. Pay people on time.
    14. Don't negotiate with change orders. Be kind, negotiate a price before you do the work and manage it properly.

Most of the problems I see are the GCs not paying on time or messing with the subs money. Every job I have been on that slows to a crawl was because the GC wasn't paying on time. Slow or Late payers are at the bottom of my list - they have the money for 100k F250 platinums or golf outing , but no money to pay on time. I pay everyone who works for me the day they are done - 14 days and 28 days - I want people to pick up the phone when I call.

Unfortunately I agree. They treat me the same way as a consultant.
