'Top Speed Germany' is a German RUclips channel for people who love cars.
My Name is Max and I film while driving cars. No matter if they are old, fast, loud or electric. They need to be special! With several onboard cams, I record everything important to show you High-Speed-Runs, Acceleration tests ( 0-100 kph / 0-200 kph / 100-200 kph / 200-300 kph ) and test drives on German Autobahn or Road. Please note, Germany is the country of "no speed limit" highways. So in some places, it's allowed to drive very fast. But please don't try this if you are not an experienced driver !! If you enjoy give a like and subscribe for more videos ;-) . Авто/Мото
How the old Mercedes handles that speed with stability and confidence is truly amazing.
all the old Benz's were like this. in Australia my father purchased a new 67 280s and it was about 60+ klm faster than anything the police had at the time. i remember a couple times mum telling dad off for getting chased out on the highway. back in 1970 there was almost no traffic on interstates compared to today.
@@imoovabull6042 That's funny but awesome lol.

I'll say I agree with you. Looks just so comfortable and perfect even at those speeds
That pulls so well for what it is and the age. Goes to show how good the engineering was with merc. Almost no power loss to 200 kph either.
47 years old car and the sound of that closing door... perfectly on point
I knew someone who had one. He would have lost his mind if one of us 'slammed' the door like that!!!
Shame about the side panel
At least a 47-year-old driver, judging from the huffing and puffing while getting in the car...😉🥰
I had a 330D W123 from 1980, I sold it about an year ago (no time to enjoy it as much as I wanted), and it was making EXACTLY that noise after 30 years :) Though I greatly doubt it was able to go over 160kph... But it did manage 140 :P No turbo, aspirated :)
yeah and she is fast as fk...
47 years old ,handling smoothly with one hand at 200 km !!! Respect to German engineering !!!
I had the successor. You could steer it with your little finger at 200 km/h. I really tried it out several times. But the rims of this one are really ugly.

@@zkilerex9661 It sure sounds like the original engine. Where did you get the idea that it's not the original engine, when the engine isn't even shown? I had an unmodified 2.3l I6 in a 1967 110 230 (Heckflosse) and that thing could do almost 160km/h. A 280E at 220km/h is no problem.

When these cars were launched I was a young boy, I did not realise how well engineered they were, here we are half a century later and the same car can still hold its own on the Autobahn.
185hp from 2.75 liter was extraordinary amount of power in 1973.
Yep it was ..I own a 1970 250ce 170 HP ..drives like a modern car. .
Not bad even in today's standard!
Meanwhile in Murica a late 70s Eldorado with 8.2L barely put out 180hp
the next 280(1977) had more power near 200 hp and four speed.
@A Omar There’s a well known reason for that or didn’t you know? Emissions regulation was choking all the engines then. That same 8.2 V8 made 400 horses and 550 lb.ft. in 1970. Shove that in your pipe and smoke it.

Wow, he touched 136mph in a 280 E Merc from 1973, not only that, it did it without any squeeks & rattles.......amazing
The ease with which it continues to accelerate after 140kmh rivals many of the newer cars you drive. I had to replay that sequence about 5 times to truly believe it. Now I want one of these cars! I've always wanted an older Benz, but I was unwilling to go quite that far back...before this. The lines and design are so much more elegant than 8-s & 90s MB.
I actually enjoyed this way more than the newer cars
Classic like these are understandably expensive to maintain and upkeep.certainly will need more than a Mercedes of money to drive it at 200+kph

My first car back in the days was a 20-year old 200D W114 with a max speed around 115 km/h 😅 I really loved that car!
Brings back memories. Me and my mate , two 18 year olds , were hitchhicking in Germany back in '73 and were picked up by an old bloke in one of these just outside Dortmund. Couldn't believe the speed he was driving and calm as a cucumber. 180 to 200 all the way to Hamburg.
This may not look impressive but driving at 200 km/h with virtually no noise and with such a stability was witchcraft back in the days, and even today it is still incredible.

When I'm depressed I watch your videos and they temporally take me to another place. The pleasure of driving a nice car.
My father used to own w124 250D from 1991.. What I've realized then with these "old" Merc's is that top speed of the car is where the speedometer ends.. No cheats no nothing.. if it says 300, it's 300, if it says 200, it's 200. Simple.
Great car ! :)
My father had one of those too! Same year! 07/1991 how I miss that car... we had it for like 18 years and luckly I´ve driven quite some times
Have this old wish to buy one and restore it
My grandpa owns a W124 E280 Automatic from '94 and still drives it every day. I'm absolutely in love with that car and if one day he can't drive it anymore, I definetly want to take care of it. It's in perfect shape with only 160k km and still has the first exhaust.
My dad used to own w124 200d from 1992 manual 4-gears transs. Top speed was 170 km/h. Once it reached 185 km/h with gas instead of diesel and it made 600 kms without any problem and any damage. After that day it worked for other 12 years with us,reached 550.000 km on the odometer and still was able to reach 165-170 km/h with ease. All parts were original, the engine, transmission, exhaust, friction! I miss that car a lot!
I highly doubt it!
Manufacturers can set the speedometer to be around 10% higher for safety reasons. Also, as your tyre wears down the rolling radius changes. Over or under inflating your tyres also has an effect. My friend in highway patrol stated that you can get away with 10% plus 2 mph for those very reasons. So no car is 100% accurate, 100% of the time ... unless you change your tires and keep the same psi of air in those tires after every trip to the shops.
So just because you're holding a car at 200 kph on the speedometer, doesn't mean you're doing 200 kph
BMW & Mercedes in the mid 20th century agreed to limit their cars to 155 mph/250 kmh. I'm guessing due to safety or whatever, this is correct for cars from the factory. Even removal of the limiter be it mechanical or electrical yields very little gains. Gear ratios meant the speed wasn't much more than the agreed threshold.
PS, this agreement is still active & covers a few other makers. Only a few special models have the limit removed as stock, the one that comes is the CLK GTR.
Viewers: the car won't even reach 200km/h it's too old.

@@timmuller2599 The gearbox limits the 600 W140 to 288 km/h, I think it can get close at least (without the 250 km/h limiter). The facelifted version has 5 gears instead of 4, that one probably has 300+ km/h gearing but not enough power to reach it.
Truly a blast from the past.
This old car is so fast, 1973 car ? what a amazing car 😍
That missing door card hurts me in so many ways with an interior like this. xD
No wonder it's so noisy at speed. Road noise penetrates through that missing door card 😉
I believe that it can be described by only one word: Smooth...
This car is timeless. Nice interior
I just love Germany after seeing this.
Car so well maintained. Amazing to see it so stable at that speed. Respect.
Until a deer or wild hog coming on the road
Very beautiful car. Everything sounds so mechanic and nostalgic.
At 200km/h this car is as solid as a rock, no bumps or bouncing or anything, just a glorious smooth straight 6
Most impressive. I can just imagine the reaction of drivers passed by the Merc ... "Sheeeesh!! Look at that old tri-pointer go!"
