This car is reasonably fast and very quiet for a car that is almost 50 years old. A steady 180 km/h without too much fuss is very impressive ! - Of course it's a Mercedes-Benz !
Just bought on and the performance is actually incredible for a car this old. Just drove some mountainpasses this weekend you have no problem getting up even steep inclines.
Sorry I forget, there are folks on earth that don´t speak German (very few though :) Back in 1972 I did my driving lessons on a MB of the same type. Given the luxury and ease of driving this car offered I regret I passed the exam at first try. Compared to today´s price of driving lessons the price of 1 hour on this Mercedes seems ridiculous: DM 17,50 which numerically equals € 8.75 or roughly $ 8.- - Auf dem gleichen Fahrzeug machte ich 1975 in München meinen Führerschein. Eine Fahrstunde kostete DM 17,50 (!) in der Fahrschule Röhrl/Weickenmayr. Nie mehr danach genoß ich am Steuer solchen Luxus.
Heh, not so. It depends on how much they've been driven and how good they've been serviced. A work colleague of mine bought a W123 with about 600 000km on it (back in the 90's) and while the car was mechanically still running good, the seats were worn out literally to pieces with threads sticking out... That M115 engine is a surprisingly powerful engine. I have the 230 version of the M115 in my w123 and it continues to surprise me of how quickly it can get to it's top speed and I recon it can go even faster if it had the optional 5 speed gearbox
@@void0094 Fuel inefficient is an understatement for the M115, that engine pretty much uses as much fuel as a modern v6 or v8. 14.7L/100km in the city or 16mpg US and that's without having either a/c or the autobox, I've been told by people who have both options with the M115 can consume up to 18L/100km.

So quiet and smooth for an old 1975 2litre 4 cyl car. The Mercedes cars was in a class of their own. 170 kmt on a 95ps big car like this, is very good. And it did it without struggling. My first cars was from the early 70s, but i had Opel, Ford and Audi witch could not match the class and comfort of these nice Mercedeses.

The car from my childhood. My grandpa owned a 250, 280 and a 240D 3.0. But the speedometer showed too much. The Diesel showed at top speed 165km/h but in Reality were it 150!
Steady as a Rock ... Old Mercedes are 'SO' underrated as It slides along owning all. Rust might have killed a lot of them but those who kept them free have the wake up of all wake ups of modernity.. No chimes, no alarms, no worries and probably a better fuel economy to boot as you pass the great pretenders

Betrachtet man mal die Beschleunigung angesichts dessen was der Tacho maximal hergibt, ist das wirklich eine sensationale Qualität! Damals hat es den Autoherstellern noch wichtig gelegen, das der Kunde auch Qualität bekommt für sein Geld. Klar wenn du heute für 100.000 € ein Auto kaufst, hast du halt Qualität heutigen Standards. Aber mit dem Auto nicht zu vergleichen. Autos heutiger Zeit die auf dem Tacho bis 180 in Zahl gehen, kratzen schon ab 130 km/h und der da zieht bis 170 km/h als ständen 220 auf dem Tacho.

What height do you have? Seriously, an important feature had disappeared completely for the new luxury shitbox frames for "modern" cars. As well, that is the ability to see how actually long is the bonet of your car and where it bends. Why that thing went extinct. I think because of aerodinamics and lower fuel consumption. Those are 95 strong horses! This engine must have been a little bit underrated. It's performing more like I'd expect from 110 PS.

I heard that the M115 engine is very robust too. Just not as fuel efficient like the M102 engines.

I would recommend the 1.6 tdi. In my opinion it's more reliable, better torque and the better choice over all.
