Seriously good work, I'm OCD but not to your level. It is a great feeling assembling clean painted and plated parts, when your finished standing back and admiring one work with a beer is cool. Oh and I love the videos... I am assembling the wishbones right now so this is sooo much help. Thanks. Keep the videos coming.

Thanks, I do rather enjoy going full ocd with the xjs, I know people get all upset when they hear of owners not driving their xjs all the time but I enjoy restoration as much as the actual driving!

@@jaguarxjsocd …but then job might better wear protective shoes instead of working barefoot in the workshop! 😉

Need to do this on my '90, readily admit I'm learning on it vs my XK100s. Your work is absolutely beautiful

Haha yes I know.. sometimes I just go relax in the garage/lounge .. not intending to do any jobs.. and 5 min later I'm knee deep in the rear suspension 😂

That's really useful to know; I will have to tackle this job in the future. Was your IRS powder coated or did you paint it? Thanks for the great video.

I had pretty much everything powder coated.. I painted the diff and halfshafts. Just note powder coating changes the size of things due to the thickness of the coating so there's a lot of adjustment/filing of holes etc afterwards! Worth it tho.

    Hi,
    Another informative post.
I’m 50% through my body restoration on my 6.0 Coupe and the first mechanical stuff I will do is my IRS,so this is very useful, thanks.
I’m being lazy ,as I haven’t read up my green book yet…do you need to grease the fulcrum pins before you push through into the tubes or does the grease nipples take care of that?
Great base plate rest…I will do that now…
I just love your attention to detail and cleanliness…I to,have car ocd 😂👍

Thanks, glad my ramblings help others a little! I'm learning as I go.. as most of us are. To answer your question, I did line the outer tube (gold tube the fulcrum pin slides through) with grease. I also gave a bit of grease to the parts as seen in the video, the fulcrum pins themselves were not greased particularly but were a bit greasy just due to workflow and I had no problems tapping them through. The main obstacle to tapping through would be misalignment, you have 4 holes to get lined up.. I think this is what my missing shims are for? But that said my parts lined up perfectly well, so I just don't know haha. Personally I can't see how shims would alter anything between the diff and fulcrum mount but it must do.. something if required. Good luck with your restoration! OCD is the only way!

I’m just a duffer on a couch but when you were twisting the locking wire it seems that you should still be rotating clockwise after passing thru the second bolt. And it looks like you’re going the other way. . Is that the correct way? . Beautiful vids. Thank you

That video was a while ago so my honest answer is right now.. I don't know ha.. I'd have to watch my video back again to check. I'm 99% sure however I correctly secured the bolts so neither will turn anti clockwise.
