It is only in the past 20 years or so that buses have had these projecting front mirrors. It is obvious to all (except the vehicle designers, obviously) that such projections are unacceptable and inviting problems. Similarly the rear overhang. I remember when London introduced long single-deck buses in 1968 the number of bus stops that were knocked down when buses pulled out sharply from the kerb. The fault lies in the design which, in more sensible times, would have been rejected or, more accurately, would never have seen the light of day. It seems we have learned nothing in recent years. In addition, the space needed for projecting mirrors reduces the number of vehicles that can be accomodated in the garages. Perhaps that is why so many buses are dumped in open yards these days..... What happened to commonsense?
Not a well considered view. Firstly, legislation demands that the N/S mirror is viewed through a cleared part of the screen. I can assure you that the blind spots from a mirror placed further back are much greater. The danger from driving a bus with a nearside mirror obscured by rain, dirt or misted interior glass cannot be over emphasised. Any good driver of a large vehicle relies on good rear and side vision. I speak as a bus driver of 45 years experience, commercial vehicle advanced driver, (test taken in an old manual double deck bus) and instructor of many years. I have driven buses with tiny round side mounted mirrors and all sizes up to the modern large front mounted options. Always a cause for discussion, however, no simple answer. Every bus must be wheelchair accessible. However, if a ramp fails on route the driver is permitted to finish the journey. Wheelchair spaces are limited, so if the bus has its legal maximum on board, no further wheelchairs can be loaded. If other passengers, with pushchairs for instance, are taking the space, the driver can ask them to move but has no powers to enforce it. Also, if you look at the legal lettering inside the bus, you will see different capacities. Seated, standing, wheelchairs and then as wheelchairs need more space, the variations when wheelchairs are on board. A driver can't ask a couple of able bodied passengers to leave the bus to enable a chair to board.
@@cap4983 Impossible. Capacities have already been reduced with various equality regulations. Shorter buses would mean lower capacities, needing more vehicles and drivers and greatly increased costs.

I wish bus drivers in New York City know this. They will pull in and out of bus stops when on coming traffic is coming. Unsafe for Drivers and Cyclists who are overtaking the bus. Also if we want to fix the issue, we have to make at least 60 feet of space for 40 foot buses. This can be done by placing a stop at the corner or a street.
Buses are badly designed.. the front wheel should be in front of the main doors therefore easier to move out and in. Any ideas why its behind the door??
It's intentional. Otherwise it would put the driver behind the front wheels which make for very bad visibility as UK buses have flat faces. Also the entrance needs to be flat so people can board as the tyres are very large. Lorries get around this by adding steps to climb up. But that also makes it too high for old Doris lol
When on one bus can be up to 5 different routes, the buses have to be on time. Also buses run by time slots and the drivers have to be in a certain place within a time. This is hove congestion starts.
@@NextSound170 So how are people meant to catch the bus if they do not have a schedule? Not everyone lives in London where buses come every 10 minutes. There needs to be a timetable everyone adheres to.
Can I just say as a bus driver and previous controller, there is NO penalty for being late. Controllers rushing people is actually very rare. It's usually new drivers fall victim to this idea that they're being rushed because they get asked why they're late. Experienced drivers don't suffer with this.

Do they make training videos in how to ignore and refuse wheelchair users, also?
@@stevesales4263:-) thank you. I took the test case on this to the Supreme Court.
Too me this seems obvious knowledge too someone who’s properly licensed to drive the vehicle in question!
No training is too obvious.
Drivers should learn how to drive the bus to start with. Half of them don't have a clue.
And u should teach them
I've never seen a public transit bus of that size without a set of mid mounted doors. Very odd.
Or go back to using shorter, double deck buses, with minimal overhangs!
Not always possible.
@@cap4983 Impossible. Capacities have already been reduced with various equality regulations. Shorter buses would mean lower capacities, needing more vehicles and drivers and greatly increased costs.
As arriva killed my mate by hitting him and stopping ontop of his body
Sad to hear that but I don’t think blaming the company is a whole is really right
Yeh but not every bus driver follow that come and see on leicester bus driver worst and. Careless
I feel like the drivers should know this when I am 13 and I do lol
You know nothing.
@@lexifillems Obnoxious prick
@@freddieparrydrums actually u don't bud but nice try and besides these are bus drivers they know exactly what they are doing and u say uf 13 ha I would love to see you drive a bus
@@jamesdukes1869 Alright I’ll show you then.
00:16 Wait, did this guy just compare landing or taking off a plane to a bus pulling in? I don’t think so 🤦
Buses are badly designed.. the front wheel should be in front of the main doors therefore easier to move out and in. Any ideas why its behind the door??
shorter wheelbases make for a shorter turn radius, better for cities and stuff. idk if thats why though, i know nothing about buses
Maybe the frontal overhang makes it easier for someone to get a pram or a wheelchair up into the bus because it can hang directly over the pavement.
Believe you would have to have a longer front if you put the wheel ahead of the door
@@Chris-vn2nf All buses in regular operation in the UK have to have a completely wheelchair accessible entrance and low floor by law
No one cares just actually turn up on time
Stop rushing drivers to be on time and accidents like this wouldn’t happen
When on one bus can be up to 5 different routes, the buses have to be on time. Also buses run by time slots and the drivers have to be in a certain place within a time. This is hove congestion starts.
@@EduardSLVRU We know this mate, buses aren’t a new phenomenon. Controllers always rush drivers which causes accidents
It’s a comment - chill. Ffs 🤣🤣
why is that shown to me, plus everything is reversed…. confusing as hell
