- Hello everybody, and welcome to the first video about my preserved vehicles!
So the cat is finally out of the bag, what has Joe bought?! Well he's bought himself a 2005 Volvo B7RLE Wright Eclipse Urban from First Halifax. These vehicles are one of the two types of vehicles (the Wright Eclipse Gemini being the other) that got me interested in buses. Their sleek curvy design which at the time looked super modern, and to be honest I still think does to this day!
It was the first bus I'd seen that wasn't just "a box on wheels" in my opinion of course, and when I found out that these magnificent vehicles were getting cut from the First West Yorkshire fleet, I couldn't pass up the chance to purchase one. So here we are! Ex First Halifax 66780 (YJ05 VVZ) being picked up and taken on a test drive! Enjoy!

Nice to see a modern bus saved. I would like to preserve one of the 2002 Dennis Trident Alexander ALX400 buses. One of the KU02, KV02 or the LG02 reg examples would be perfect for my first one.
This video goes hand in hand with the video Simon Says made. I love the indicator sound, nostalgic, reminiscent of old London buses.
On today's episode of Yorkshire man plays, Joe has a shave for you all, has a stand off with a caterpillar, buys a bus, waves at other drivers and breaks the suspension. In other news: Joe+ subscription prices are expected to go up. How else is he going to pay for the maintenance.

I'm a bus enthusiast from Australia and I'm so very glad to see this bus going to go to a good home and it's been preserved.
I found your channel about 1 day ago. I can't stop obsessing over all of your content. Ive been looking at 2007+ Gillig Lowfloor busses in the US and I want nothing but to scoop one and drive it endlessly.
I love the Gillig from driving it in OMSI! Would it be a ZF transmission you'd get? That's my favourite.
Well done Joe, watched every minute of it. Fantastic drive, I love B7RLE's but my favourite are B7TL Geminis, which I would like to preserve 37165 as was brand new to Southampton depot in 2007, now in Cornwall as a day tripper bus. Just need to be able to drive a bus first ideally would be great.

Joe what you're doing for bus preservation could in future be very important think back to any bus generation and I'll guarantee someone said "Those buses will never reach Preservation" they said the same about Leyland Nationals and Bristol VRTs but look how many of them there are in preservation! It's awesome that buses that are still in main bus company's usage is being preserved because you never know when they'll all be gone

I've driven that bus when I worked at Halifax (then onto Todmorden). I was on the Calder Valley Rota, plus Huddersfield for a short time. Happy days....
OMG, you got a 2005 Volvo B7RLE Wright Eclipse Urban?!😱 If I got hold of one of these, I would've had it repainted into the 2004 Roadcar Super Buzz livery, since I'm more familiar with Lincolnshire Roadcar as I grew up travelling on their buses before it got renamed Stagecoach in Lincolnshire in September 2006 when they brought Roadcar's parent company Yorkshire Traction in December 2005.
It's nice to seeing the older generation of buses being able to have a 2ns chance in life.
They're still running in my area though! XD

I have probably been on this bus no doubt. Living in Todmorden these buses did Halifax-Burnley that I used to get to college in Burnley.
The thumbnail is taken in Portsmouth just in the edge of Todmorden. Brings back memories of going to college!

I used to drive exactly this kind of bus for a different corner of FirstGroup, when they were new and shiny… they were very nice buses! I'm very slightly envious :D

We still have some 2005 B7RLE'S still in active service in Skegness. They were originally new to Lincolnshire Road Car which later was taken over by Stagecoach. We still have some Wright Eclipse Geminis still in service too.
A point about Halifax.
If there is another town in the country with as large a number of scenic - properly scenic - bus routes attached to it as Halifax, I'd be surprised.
One of them, the 503, goes over the Elland bypass and as someone who takes it every week, can confirm buses struggle up the hill.
There’s one right next door to it, Huddersfield, probably more scenic routes there amongst all the different companies, especially Team Pennines.

Fantastic buses to drive, got to drive them at First Bristol and First Cymru.
We have loads of these at first Eastern countries, such an easy bus to drive, sad that we could be losing them all

So good to see one of these in preservation 🙂👍 - I swear these are much smoother than the of course much newer Wright Streetlites.
The Streetlites are quite nice looking vehicles but these Volvo's are way better!

Congratulations on preserving one of the YJ05s which are a great batch as part of First Halifax, they are very similar to what First Leicester had with the MX/KX05s

Its my ambition to own one, I keep looking but I never have the confidence to buy one.
It's such good fun! I'd recommend it, but of course there's a large cost after actually buying the thing.

You've got yourself one hell of a bus there. Driven it many a time when i worked at First Halifax. Just out of curiosity, how did you come about buying it and have you got any tips for someone looking to get into the preservation scene
Just get speaking to different bus companies by email about vehicles your interested in, Storage is the biggest problem to be honest with you. But on the other hand, there is no better feeling than driving your own bus.

Hi joe I’m new to the channel.That Halifax depot brings back memories because it’s where I set off from and passed my psv test..I worked at first Leeds bramley depot from 97 to 2000.I drove a earlier version of your bus when they were new..

Thanks for that! The buying of the bus isn't particularly expensive, it's the maintenance which will keep you permanently bankrupt :(
