@darlacummings12 the defense he was trying to convey, in my opinion. It was my response to a question on this thread. Apparently, reading comprehension is not your thing.

My hope is that the family feel a little bit of justice has been served…. I want to know what the defense attorney who sat there this whole time thinks? We may never know, but I can’t help think that he was cringing on the inside a lot.
Has anyone worked out his defence yet? Did I miss it? At one point I thought he might make out it was all consensual and she gave him the money etc or that he just found her purse, then I thought he'd say the police planted his DNA or that the husband did it but he didn't seem to have any explanation as to why he was found with her purse over her shoulder, which was a bit of a smoking gun.
his defence was that the whole system worked against him and he's not a creep and he wouldn't do this and why won't you/we/the jury take his word for it?? Generally aggrieved pity party, that was the defence. No specifics, all insinuations. All about him too. Nothing about TL and what she went through. He called her "that woman" in his closing. So yeah, you didn't miss it, it wasn't there, neither in intelligence nor in addressing the evidence.
When defendants who don't know the law stupidly insist on representing themselves in criminal proceedings, they may still get a "stand-by counsel," or defense attorney whose job it is to advise the defendant.

In somewhat more benighted times, people talked about "criminal characters", but they were usually just dressing up their idiotic and racist beliefs. For that reason I've always rejected the concept of criminal personalities or characters. However, what with a number of societal changes - police body cams, streaming on social media, and eventually Covid putting so many court cases, big and small, online - I've come round to the idea. Because, rich or poor, male or female, smart or stupid, I do keep seeing the same personality. Some cases are much milder, some, like this, just obscene, yet the resemblance is undeniable. They all are profoundly able to disregard reality, to always ALWAYS believe themselves to be the victim. They ALWAYS say prosecutors, police and judges are corrupt and out to get them. Today was the first day of the Trump Org. fraud trial, and Trump said EXACTLY these same things, just as Darrell Brooks, and this pos, and all the people at traffic stops who scream abuse at officers, and say "do you know who I am." And you know what...maybe we shouldn't be so surprised that Yohn is astonished he's being held accountable and that the jury didn't believe him. Clearly the country is full of people who feel that way about all their own crimes, big and small, just as so much of the US voting public believes all the nonsense Trump says, so why shouldn't they believe Yohn.
I swear, I don’t understand how police and sheriffs departments don’t have physical standards which are to be maintained. I seriously doubt the deputy on the right would be able to peruse a subject any significant distance.
yeah…well…. America just isn't that great when it comes to police etc.. You don't even have to attend a few years of specific education I hear. Nor is education geared towards de-escalation. I say physical standard is the least of your problems. Sorry.
@@bumblebaa2327 Nobody wants to be a cop - the job is too scrutinized/politicized to the detriment of cops and the public. Most non-lethal techniques are now illegal, so cops just end up shooting instead. Why not?
