I kind of like the idea as Zilla being a "swarm" or "pack" monster rather than a one-on-one fighter. Imagine something like this fighting the Legendary Godzilla but there's at least five of them, using their speed and tactics to overwhelm him. Would be a really cool fight scene.
I like that idea Zilla would be a speedy agile type of Kaiju; fast yet weak but they are pack hunters and they use strategy and cunning to overwhelm opponents
You know, it probably would be quite easy to bring Zilla to the Monsterverse. They could say he's a subspecies of Godzilla. He looks natural enough to be a legit Titan.
That is quite true, we have already seen it in the anime (though not canon) They could easily say that it is a newer subspecies dormant (or newer species that became a titan due to modern day nuclear usage from the past decades, and is only nearing maturity), that would have probably been moving between the hollow earth and the crust, only feeding fish when needed (since Zilla has still yet to adapt to being a Titan). Though comparing on the other titan, Zilla is most likely lgihtweight and prey to other dangerous titans.
In fact, I would love it if there was a solo Zila movie. Think about it! The first act of the movie can be what appears to be the star monster rampaging and then the military takes it out. They do find a nest of eggs at the beginning of the second act, but being cocky, they believe if they just leave them all alone, they’d able to kill them easily. Not realizing that they can breed at an alarming pace.
Ian_Choi 20261121 Natrix The Monster You’re both wrong. Legendary never confirmed Godzilla to be a “lizard”. They said “reptilian superspecies”. They never specified what kind of reptile Godzilla is. Plus the “theropod dinosaur” origin wouldn’t make the most sense, because what kind of theropod has gills and stands with their tail dragging on the ground?
How Zilla can be reimagined and fit in the MonsterVerse: Instead of being a mutated iguana, it's a type of dinosaur-like lizard native to the French Polynesia (one of the islands have a connecting tunnel to Hollow Earth). It can burrow underground, blast out a fire breath, and swim very fast in the water, and in addition to radiation, it also feeds on fish (especially tuna). It is a hermaphrodite that is able to reproduce asexually via self-fertilization, but by doing so, this comes off at one of its offspring being sterile. In the kaiju food chain, it serves as being a lower part of the chain (cue Godzilla killing and eating one in a flashback scene), but it is also the predator of gigantic bugs on the islands where it lives (referencing the Queen Bitch from the unmade sequel and the Queen Bee from Godzilla: The Series).
That's pretty cool. I would have had that particular dinosaur go extinct and perhaps a group combines its DNA with Godzilla's to make it alot more powerful. That way it could stand more of a chance. Maybe have the group use it as a type of weapon
As a typical monster movie, the movie is ok. But as a Godzilla movie,it does kinda suck. (but the Animated Series is really good) Either way, I do think Zilla is a great monster.
I think Toho has done a pretty good job with fixing Zilla over the years. He's never been Godzilla, he's always been more of a subspecies, which is what they should incorporate into the monsterverse. If Titanous Gojira is Godzilla's species then it could introduce a Titanous Jira species that is a less powerful descendent of the Titanous Gojira species.
Zilla's appearance in Rulers of Earth was awesome, especially when he bursts out of the earth and mauls a Trilopod that has taken the form and power of Titanosaurus. Godzilla, when he sees him, looks surprised. It's kind of like if Captain Atom was getting overwhelmed by numbers, but the one to save him and tip the scales is Mister Terrific.
Blue Crow the animated series was my introduction to the Godzilla franchise. So when I watched the movie my reaction was pretty similar to the other Godzilla fans. So you're not alone.
I think the overall feeling is the same for the monster itself. Zilla isn’t a terrible monster design, or terrible monster at all. It’s the fact it was introduced to everybody as the American Godzilla. If it wasn’t called Godzilla at all, given a different name from the start, or even was introduced as Zilla, we wouldn’t care. I’m actually upset that Zilla has no major video game appearances.
Sadly he’s only likely to appear in some kind of Destroy All Monsters/Final Wars situation with a ton of Kaiju due to lacking in the popularity department. His best chance of returns are with IDW comics.
Or his origin could start as an iguana like titan in bikini atol and was caught in the blast when the U.S tried to kill Godzilla causing it to mutate because of a mixture of radiation and Godzillas cells
Q? Why less powerful? It was strong but flawed. It still has/had work to completely go through in ways that would have been awesome to see but wouldn't get that under the animated series.
@@Scales_of_lyfe because as we all saw when TriStar tried to make Godzilla, zilla died from the military meaning weak as **** though if they did add him/it/her to monsterverse we could say it's a sub species that evolved with Godzilla but was not a fighter more like a scavenger kinda like the mutos but not a parisite just similar looking to Godzilla but a entirely different creature
This incarnation of Godzilla is one of my favourite Kaiju. Just because it's not the proper Godzilla, it's still one of the incarnations. If Zilla mutated again, he would probably look a little like Godzilla. The design of Zilla was very cool with his dorsal fins curved forward, raptor like animation, long arms and its mouth. I would be overjoyed to see this Kaiju again, even in the monsterverse. (Although Zilla is not one of the monsters)
@@Xenosaurian the big problem with 98 godzilla is that if they wanted to strip away the giant monster battles, they could have looked to the original 54 godzilla. that film wasn't a traditional monster movie, but a warning of the horrors of nuclear war, and what it might produce. in my opinion, i think shin godzilla is what the 98 version should have been: not a mutated dinosaur, but an amphibian or lizard horribly mutated to the point of becoming a walking disaster area. maybe it doesnt need to be as gorey as shin godzilla, but as a statement on our sin of nuclear weaponry, 98 godzilla really could have done with some kind of breath ability. maybe leaving trace amounts of radiation in its wake. just.. something to make it more like a godzilla incarnation barring being a giant reptile.

Very nicely done, as usual! Tons of great info, especially regarding the 1998 Godzilla/Zilla debacle. I'll still always wish the '94 American Godzilla had been made, but I've come to appreciate the design of Zilla at least. The curved scutes were always one of my favorite features, while the tan-and-blue skin of '98 Godzilla makes for a great color combo.
As long as he's not being passed off as Godzilla, Zilla's a pretty cool kaiju in his own right (or at least Zilla Jr. is). I think he'd fit right in with the Monster Island kaiju like Godzilla, Rodan and Anguirus.
@@1Korlash But Godzilla '98 is permanently trademarked and officially regarded as Godzilla. I think that's an odd reason to hate a fictional character. Zilla was pretty pathetic and not as cool as Godzilla '98 though (except in the Rulers of Earth comic Zilla was kinda cool, but otherwise Godzilla '98 is better), and there is no such thing as "Zilla Jr." as Zilla doesn't have children and you are of course referring to the animated Godzilla '98 junior.
@@Xenosaurian Godzilla 1998 only runs away from the military and little else, Zilla on the other hand managed to destroy a whole City block and ran towards Godzilla with no second thoughts ready to fight, i think the real pathetic one is Godzilla 1998, since it was merely a bad potrayal of another character, Zilla on the other hand is his own thing.
Well, if anything this has made me want to rewatch the film in a different light. (Or revisit the animated series) It has been 20 years for crying out loud. Ignore the cesspit down there and keep up the unbiased and quality work. I hope one day people in this fandumb can be more grateful for the work you put in.
They are certainly not a bad monster in their own right, just not right to carry the name Godzilla, Zilla is good though, cute even compared to his bigger stronger counterpart, wouldn't mind seeing an updated version of them in Legendary's Monsterverse as a lesser titan kinda like the Muto, fast and agile with that power breath but far less durability and strength, he's no Godzilla by any means but I certainly still like him and it's been more than 20 years so I think people are well over freaking out over him
I actually really like Zilla! I like this as a separate monster, sure a little bit if he is Godzilla. I like how he relies on intelligence and speed, rather then brute strength. And I really hope he gets a bit more love.
I also really like (God) Zilla (1998), because he is just a more realistic Godzilla. The original and the Legendary Godzilla are both set in a Fantasy-World, with "Titans", Magic etc. - The original Godzilla walks upright and pulls his tail behind, just like Theropod-Reconstructions at that time. But Zilla walks like modern Reconstructions of a T-rex. So the original Godzilla is pretty much outdatet. - The original Godzilla is invincible, what is a boring story content, like Superman - the writers had to introduce kryptonite so that there was a threat to him and the stories could build any suspense at all. - The original Godzilla has its atomic breath, which is just over the top unrealistic for a mutant animal. - The original Godzilla also dies in the first movie, also killed by Humans.
I love Zilla and I love the movie. We all know _he _*_is NOT_*_ Godzilla,_ so why not enjoy him for what he is, amirite? great and unbiased vid, as always. fantastic
Edmar Fecler Same here! And I know, right? I'm afraid you're always gonna run into a couple of 'THOSE' fans here and there; the ones who just can't seem to permanently get over their (understandable) Zilla/1998 disappointment (or don't want to). I've run into those kinds of hardcore G-Fans more times than I care to count, and a lot of my encounters with them have unfortunately (and I stress 'unfortunately') gone like this... Disrespectful, Bullying, Zilla/1998-hating G-Fans: "AAAAAHHHHH!!! ZILLA SUCKS!!! 1998 SUCKS!!! THEY DISRESPECT THE SOURCE MATERIAL!!! DEATH TO EMMERICH AND DEVLIN!!! DOWN WITH TRISTAR!!! EVERY SINGLE HUMAN BEING ON THE PLANET MUST HATE THEM, ANYONE WHO LOVES THEM IS A ZILLA FAN-TARD WHO MUST BE TARRED AND FEATHERED!!!" Me: "Excuse me, but didn't your mothers ever tell you it's *RUDE* and *WRONG* to try and shove your views down everyone else's throats, or to *CALM DOWN,* let your disappointment go, and just move on with your lives?" Disrespectful, Bullying, Zilla/1998-hating G-Fans: "NO! We're *NOT* gonna do that! We're just gonna keep HATING and HATING and HATING until Zilla/1998, TriStar, and Emmerich and Devlin are magically wiped off the face of the Earth, and we're gonna *BULLY the F%$K* out of people like you until you HATE them just as much as we do! What are YOU gonna do, huh? *SPANK* us?" Me: *"THAT'S RIGHT, PIGS! AND HERE'S THE PADDLE (takes out big, HONKIN' BAZOOKA)!"* OK, *no,* rest assured, I would truly NEVER literally do that to anyone just for disagreeing with me on something, or if I was in an argument. But, you get my point, I hope?
Finally someone who actually brings up Zilla's insane speed. So many people I've seen do videos on him don't bring it up and judge him based purely on strength and resistance. My man can leave a Lambo in the dust. He is easily one of the fastest land kaiju.
I feel a bit sad for Godzilla-later-Cyber Godzilla, he only wanted a place to lay his eggs, all of his babies killed, he dies, gets resurrected but can't break on the alien's hold and then his only surviving son chooses a human over him, tragic. Although I also find kinda ironic Godzilla son imprinting on the man that basically got all his siblings and birth parent murdered and considering him his rightful father, though the whole thing seems adorable on the episode. Maybe Godzilla Sr. and Nick could do some co-parenting(?)
When I was younger I only knew Zilla/98 Godzilla, as the true Godzilla. Later on I was exposed to the Japanese godzilla and my entire world was flipped upside down. I remember I still liked Zilla/98 but I was reluctant to say so to other fans due to the hate stigma he was getting at the time. I eventually got over it and can say that Zilla is my second favorite kaiju (behind Spacegodzilla and in front of Mechagodzilla 1993) and is one of my personal favorite designs for any kaiju. I do hope a game comes out with him in it and the stigma behind him fully leaves because while the movie isn’t amazing (neither are all the Japanese godzilla films lol) the kaiju is something to appreciate and respect in its own right and will always hold a special place in my heart.
@Pacificgoji94 I liked his comic book version in rulers of Earth a lot, for similar reasons why I like Anguirus best of all. Generally the less fancy powers a Kaiju has the better (a rule that does not apply to Mothra or the Ghidorah species, but pretty much all the other Kaiju), and them ferociously going after even the the most powerfull high end Kaiju with nothing but claws, spikes and teeth makes them the ultimate badasses of the Toho verse.
Yes finally someone who thinks the same! The Japanese movies are not as perfect as people make them out to be, for me I think that any Japanese movie and 1998 one are pretty much equal.
Zilla was a GOOD MONSTER. it was the dialogue of the film that gave the movie and ultimately, Zilla, a bad rep. I was happy to see that he was given some light in the comics. He is not the strongest monster but he was meant for speed and ambush tactics.
It's pretty cool how this design is being adopted more and more into other official stuff. It's nice to get new monsters added to the roster of characters, and Zilla is so notorious for all the hate he got he's practically iconic.
I wanna see a live action sequel starring the surviving baby. This is personally my favorite Godzilla incarnation, mostly because I have an Iguana named Zilla.
I actually one of the few people who liked the 1998 film since release and still is one of my favorites (although a guilty pleasure) Kaiju films and Zilla design is pretty cool in my opinion, specially in the animated series he looks pretty awesome......it would be a lot of fun if Zilla could appear in the Legendary Monsterverse and face off with Legendary Goji.
I also really like (God) Zilla (1998), because he is just a more realistic Godzilla. - The original Godzilla walks upright and pulls his tail behind, just like Theropod-Reconstructions at that time. What introduced a lot of 90’s kids to Godzilla to be fair I still remember my Grandfather not being impressed with the movie as he saw some of the older movies
Same, if not for Zilla the closest thing to Godzilla to me at the time would still have been Rugrats's Reptor, and that's just sad 😔 .So for those reasons, along with the animated series, is why Zilla is my favourite Kaiju. Now if only toho would allow him to have Zilla Jr's green atomic breath then he'd be even more awesome.
Just like how Star Wars Prequels introduced me to bigger Star Wars Universe. Yes I watched Original Trilogy beforehand, but it was Prequels that made me a fan of Star Wars.
@@borbafatt fun fact, Zilla is canonically a *male* that can give birth asexually. and despite our different opinions, I must ask you to please respect those who have different opinions then you and to refrain from hurting people's feelings as well. Cheers.
@@robingrube3495 I don’t see anything wrong with debating a 98 fan in the comments over the quality of the film and monster because let’s be honest, it’s the most polarizing film in the franchise for a reason and to completely ignore all of the fair criticism just seems like pandering to the .01% who like Zilla. I think as long as discussions are not filled with insults and consist of people just giving their honest feelings then there’s no issue. Telling one side of the Fanbase that they’re not allowed to criticize some thing is a slippery slope. If you love Zilla that’s great but if you hate Zilla I don’t think you should have to walk on eggshells so you don’t hurt someone’s feelings. Does that make sense or am I just coming off like an asshole?
I never got the hate for the Zilla design, as long as you go with the mindset that this is a completely different universe then any of the older designs, just like with the new Hollywood films. I honestly liked the idea of doing a more "realistic" interpretation of the design and series concept.
The issue is that Zilla isn't realistic, it'd still collapse under it's own weight, or suffocate from a lack of oxygen density in the atmosphere to sustain it, or hell the fact that it was created by radiation that would of given it cancer and kill it rather than increase it's size. It's not realistic, not even close. Sure you can say it's slightly 'more' realistic, but you can argue that Super man is slightly more realistic than Goku, both are so ridiculous that being slightly more realistic doesn't really matter much. People hate the design less and hate more that it's literally over 1000 times weaker,(being killed by missiles that are literally 1000 times weaker than the nukes Big G literally has as lunch) missed out the entire point of Godzilla(being an unstoppable force of nature, equivalent to a walking nuclear bomb). It's just a pathetic Godzilla. That being said I still like Zilla, just as a different and much weaker Kaiju than Big G.
The only reason she's not Godzilla is the outcry of literally every fan with half a brain. Separating the character from the Godzilla title was the greatest thing for that character.
@@envynoson First, it's a HE, not a she. Second, what do you mean "with half a brain"? What is that supposed to mean here? They never separated the character from the Godzilla-title, it's still permanently trademarked as Godzilla and that was the only way it would have gotten as popular as it did and the only way it could have been born. Godzilla-fanboys are just acting like arrogant children and overreacting.
@@theworstcatholic7247 Zilla is realistic that's why they made the 1998 movie in the first place lol for a realistic version of Godzilla, sure Zilla's durable isn't great but he's really smart and atchually outsmarted Godzilla in that one comic, not only that but he can dig holes in seconds, spit out a power breath, he's not too mention super agile for he's size, a lot more agile than most Kaijus atchually.
In fact, Zilla is just like the Beast from 20,000 fathoms because if you watch both movies together, they both have the same traits and characters in both movies
I like how they didn't just out right remove her from the universe but instead made it its own creature. I would like to see a story where Godzilla is fighting a swarm of Zillas.
I'm prepared for the hate but Junior just barely edges out Rodan as my favorite kaiju. I may have to make it a two-fer and say they both share the Number 1 spot. For better or worse, Goji 98 was my first kaiju movie and the design got me interested. I'm of the opinion that the cartoon and Matt Frank proved that, in the right hands, Zilla can be a badass. Junior was one of my heroes as a kid so I will never stop loving him.
Jana Lybarger you're not alone on that, i always did loved the design of zilla he almost resembles of a t-rex (which we both know the dominance of the Jurassic period) so zilla was a cool kaiju when I was younger, it's just sad how many people hate him for being a disgrace of one. But this video I hope shed some light to him.
Junior was ferocious and adorable at the same time, and the animated series was awesome. I look forward to Nigel (the robot) getting nonchalantly destroyed more than I do the kaiju fights, though. It cracks me up.
@@masonjones7777 I like the first Mecha Godzilla better than any other Mecha Godzilla as well, on the other hand Keizer Ghidorah is by no means my favourite Ghidorah (which would be Desghidorah). Anyway the reason I love Anguirus is that he's a non-overpowered hard worker type Kaijū and in that regard the overpowered by nature Ghidorah species and also the Mecha Godzillas can't compete.
I really enjoy this move and this design, and I’m glad there’s this video covering it. One thing I noticed (and was somewhat later point out) was the death wasn’t just from the fighter jets on the bridge, there were a lot of hit taken from the submarines in the river.
funtime freddy 2.0 he is to weak to become a godzilla, even toho rever to it as G.I.N.O (godzilla in name only) because they regret that movie exist, so no
I feel if it weren't for the fact that Zilla once had Godzilla's name he wouldn't be nearly as controversial. He has such a cool design and is so sleek and agile compared to the lumbering conventional kaiju that if he were entirely unique I imagine he could have been a fan favorite.
I get hating on annoying or useless characters in fiction, but hating on a badass giant lizard, just because it isn't as badass as the monster it was based on seems kinda stupid. It's just a giant lizard ppl come on give it a chance.
When it comes to the American Godzilla, my story with the creature is a bit of a tale. When I was a little kid, I saw the 1998 movie on I think DVD, I'm not sure (sure didn't see it in threater, that's for sure). And I loved it. To this day, looking back, I still have fond memories of it. And I still recall constantly quoting the movie whenever I got the chance. Bear in mind, I was not new to the Godzilla franchise at the time. I owned several DVDs of the character -vs Sea Monster, vs Megalon, vs Mechagodzilla, 1984- and watched several showings of his movies on the then sci-fi channel whenever they would show them. So needless to say, I've been a big G-Fan for years. I did not walk away from the 1998 hating it. As I said, I loved it. I was just happy to see another Godzilla film. Yeah, in hindsight, the way Godzilla was killed was kinda bogus -though I would argue it's more of how he died, rather than him dying at all- but, again, little kid. I wasn't too keen back then on thinking about if the character was accurately portrayed. Flash forward a few years, and I found myself actually starting to hate the creature. However, in hindsight, I was think I was just jumping on a band wagon. A notion spurred by reading one too many message boards about the character, and buying into the hate. Looking back at it, though, I've realized that it was a mistake to give into what I'll call the "Zilla Hate". Hell, to be perfectly honestly, I've actually found myself shaking my head at Toho's attitude towards the creature during the Millennium era in recent years. Like, I get it. They weren't happy with how the Big G was handled in the American movie. But the various pot shots sprinkled into the movies was just eye rolling to me. No, I do not particularly think the fight between the two Godzillas in Final Wars -which in my opinion, is even worst of a Godzilla film than the 1998 movie- was in any way cathartic. In fact, it came across as annoyingly mean spirited. Why do you ask? So, yeah. I've never really hated the the American Godzilla. And I've realized that I always like him. And I'll always consider him a interpretation of Godzilla. Yeah, his not a very good interpretation, but hey. Sometimes, yeah gotta take the bad with the good. I do wish, however, that they had stuck more true to the character in the 98 film. Personality, what I would love to happen is for someone to buy the rights to the character from Toho, and actually give him some justice that I think he deserves. Maybe make him more akin to his offspring from the cartoon. With a resilient hide, and atomic breath, on top of the abilities he already possesses. Now that would be cool. If they could get a competent director to make the film, I think it could clear off some of the hatred that Toho's unneeded abuse towards the character has garnered over the years. Lord knows he probably needs it. So, yeah. There's my story. A bit of a long one, but I wanted to provide some context for y'all.
I think the design is bad. It's just a dinosaur but bigger. It is not true to the character at all. If the movie itself wasn't called godzilla it would have been taken better. To use godzillas name for your movie just to make a completely new character and backstory and meaning is just disrespectful. It deserved all the hate. When people make shitty things, it's best to let them know, else they may continue.
@@galingtar but that design was the concept for the original Godzilla. A dinosaur with mixtures of a t-rex, iguanodon and stegosaurus this Godzilla just modernized that design.
So I’ve been picking up Godzilla figures lately. Mostly Neca and Bandai versions of the 9 designs I really love, and I keep coming back to this one. There is NO merchandise for it that survived post-television show. I wish someone would bring this version back into the spotlight to at least give its design the praise it deserved
Fun fact: Zilla's battle with Godzilla in Final Wars is among the (if not THE) shortest battles in Godzilla film history, not even lasting a full minute. Really goes to show how much people like the original Big G than his American "cousin", doesn't it?
It has been 20 years Godzilla fans. I think the time has come to drop the hatred against Zilla and his movie. It is a well done fun monster flick. And if this movie did not egsist, we would not have had the Millennium Series or all these American and Netflix movies today. At least give this movie that much credit for brining Godzilla back and now back for good.
The Great Gojira To be care, I would still liked to had seen the Godzilla movie Stan Winston was going to make. It seems that was going to be a very fun movie. I am just glad that movies like GMK and Godzilla Final Wars egsist. And Godzilla is bigger now than it ever was in the past 30 years.
Dinobot Kiryu I thought it was a OK monster movie but, as a remake of the original, its horrible But, I will give it credit for It spawning the Animated Series, and without it we wouldn't have the 1999-2004 Era Of Godzilla
Imagine they started Kong Vs Godzilla with Zilla, only for Zilla to ran away the moment Godzilla appears. A smaller and often misidentified species of Titans
*WELL DONE!* 👍🏻👍🏻 I like how you were very *professional* with everything you presented here, and it thus comes across in an informative and educational way. 😊 Looking at the whole comment thread here, there's *unfortunately* STILL some *immaturity* going on (involving both Godzilla *and* Zilla fans). 😔 I suppose that can't be helped as long as this film and its respective Kaiju exist. Yet, I *do* have to admit that I'm so far seeing LESS immaturity here than what I see on *other* Zilla/1998-related videos on RUclips. So perhaps there IS hope for both sides. 😊 Once again, VERY well done video! #HappyBirthdayZilla!
TheAmazingDeltax You've got it all wrong. After Tristar made their Godzilla, Toho wasn't happy, but they couldn't rename it into a different creature, so when Final Wars was being made they decided to put in a character that represents Godzilla '98. But they had to make it a different unrelated creature due to legal reasons, only that iteration (and the comics) is named zilla. Toho can't do a damn thing to change anything about that movie, no matter what. Didn't you ever wonder why the title isn't renamed 'Zilla'?

I say Zilla is a reimaging of the Beast from 2000 Fathoms. Its not supposed to be Godzilla, but a different Kajiu in general. I was born in the year the movie came out and have really good memories of it, its old as i am now.
Bingo. Minus the nest part (which was aping Jurassic Park, come on), the movie rather closely follows Beast from 20,000 Fathoms, right down to the military killing it with somewhat conventional means and just having a difficult time finding it for the most part. It's a good monster to be added to Toho's pantheon, but it's not Godzilla.
i don't about you all, but i love zilla as his own seperate kaiju. Zilla will always be one of my favorite kaijus. Great job on this video as always. i cannot wait for the next one.
Kind of a shame they didn't go with that original design for the 94 film, looks awesome! and i feel it would've been received better by fans, like the Legendary was as being very Godzilla, and also realistic. But as Zilla, I still like it my favorite version going to the IDW Zilla, they treated it with respect, while not just making it stupidly weak, or pointless
Yeah I think they should have had gone with the first screen play about Atlantis. That would have made for a better movie even tho I love the 98 movie.

Happy birthday. *NOTES:* • @3:31 - Here's a page from the 2014 book "All Toho Monsters Pictorial Book" showing the ToraGoji design alongside the other classic Godzilla ones! wikizilla.org/wiki/All_Toho_Monsters_Pictorial_Book#/media/File:All_Toho_Monsters_Pictorial_Book_p_232.jpg • @4:20 - HEIGHT CONFUSION: The book "Godzilla 1954-1999 Super Complete Works" claims that the 1998 Godzilla has a height of 70 meters when standing fully upright. The novelization says that he stands 55 meters when hunching over, and the Japanese theater program for the movie says that he's 60 meters hunched over. • To be completely clear: Toho never "bought the rights" to Godzilla 1998 so they could kill him in _Final Wars._ Toho's contract with Sony allowed it to use the American Godzilla however it wanted once Sony and TriStar's rights to the franchise expired. Toho had full ownership of the TriStar Godzilla when _Final Wars_ was in production, which is why Shogo Tomiyama and Ryuhei Kitamura decided to include it in the film as the new kaiju Zilla.
Godzilla 1998 is officially considered a male monster. It is described as a male in all dialogue in both the 1998 film and *Godzilla: The Series* despite its ability to reproduce asexually. The character Nick Tatopoulos even describes it as "a very unusual he" after discovering it is pregnant.
I kind of like the idea as Zilla being a "swarm" or "pack" monster rather than a one-on-one fighter. Imagine something like this fighting the Legendary Godzilla but there's at least five of them, using their speed and tactics to overwhelm him. Would be a really cool fight scene.

You know, it probably would be quite easy to bring Zilla to the Monsterverse. They could say he's a subspecies of Godzilla. He looks natural enough to be a legit Titan.
They just make him be able to take a bomb and boom zillas a titan
That is quite true, we have already seen it in the anime (though not canon)
They could easily say that it is a newer subspecies dormant (or newer species that became a titan due to modern day nuclear usage from the past decades, and is only nearing maturity), that would have probably been moving between the hollow earth and the crust, only feeding fish when needed (since Zilla has still yet to adapt to being a Titan). Though comparing on the other titan, Zilla is most likely lgihtweight and prey to other dangerous titans.

You’re both wrong.

How Zilla can be reimagined and fit in the MonsterVerse:
Instead of being a mutated iguana, it's a type of dinosaur-like lizard native to the French Polynesia (one of the islands have a connecting tunnel to Hollow Earth).
Also, this hypothetical version of Zilla can also camouflage itself (think Indominus rex).

Hi
I think the overall feeling is the same for the monster itself. Zilla isn’t a terrible monster design, or terrible monster at all. It’s the fact it was introduced to everybody as the American Godzilla. If it wasn’t called Godzilla at all, given a different name from the start, or even was introduced as Zilla, we wouldn’t care. I’m actually upset that Zilla has no major video game appearances.
Zilla is over hated. Okay, the movie was bad, but as a standalone creature, or if you take the cartoon, it's fairly okay
Thank you! GodZilla '98 sucked but Zilla is awesome.

Zilla should be incorporated into the legendary monster verse as a less powerful evolutionary descendant of Godzilla
@@absolutemadlad5662 I can run with that idea there. Its beautiful and brilliant!!!

(Although Zilla is not one of the monsters)

in my opinion, i think shin godzilla is what the 98 version should have been: not a mutated dinosaur, but an amphibian or lizard horribly mutated to the point of becoming a walking disaster area. maybe it doesnt need to be as gorey as shin godzilla, but as a statement on our sin of nuclear weaponry, 98 godzilla really could have done with some kind of breath ability. maybe leaving trace amounts of radiation in its wake. just.. something to make it more like a godzilla incarnation barring being a giant reptile.

He is my 3rd fave right after Godzilla burning Godzilla and King Ghidoriah
@Pacificgoji94
I liked his comic book version in rulers of Earth a lot, for similar reasons why I like Anguirus best of all.
Pacificgoji94, that is some excellent grammar

If I was an American parent I would make sure my kids always see the original godzilla first as soon as they can read subtitles.

'98 Godzilla would be way better if it was called “The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms”
Zilla looks nothing like rhedosaurus.
Although Roland initially requested that his versión be quadrupedal and without scutes.
In fact, Zilla is just like the Beast from 20,000 fathoms because if you watch both movies together, they both have the same traits and characters in both movies
Nah, Godzilla is the better name.

Such a underrated monster but such a good one
I like Zilla a lot, as it's own Kaiju.
Switch Board 98% of the hate is zilla is not a good godzilla. If he was a different creature id imagine it be looked on more favorably
I love the Zilla design, I don’t like it as a Godzilla design.
Me too

Zilla is my second favorite kanji, first being Ghidorah.
Personally I love the Godzilla 1998 movie. You got this SPOT ON. Love what you do so keep up the AMAZING work!!!
Junior was awesome never saw a kaiju scale a building like he did and roar on top it was awesome
Junior was ferocious and adorable at the same time, and the animated series was awesome. I look forward to Nigel (the robot) getting nonchalantly destroyed more than I do the kaiju fights, though. It cracks me up.
@ Jana Lybarger
Well you get my hate just like you asked for, since everybody should know that Anguirus is king.
@@masonjones7777
I like the first Mecha Godzilla better than any other Mecha Godzilla as well, on the other hand Keizer Ghidorah is by no means my favourite Ghidorah (which would be Desghidorah).

I feel if it weren't for the fact that Zilla once had Godzilla's name he wouldn't be nearly as controversial. He has such a cool design and is so sleek and agile compared to the lumbering conventional kaiju that if he were entirely unique I imagine he could have been a fan favorite.
Zilla can be cool, just read Godzilla Rulers Of The Earth.

Unpopular opinion I actually love this design. And the movie is just okay its got its flaws tho
@@galingtar They did continue, though, and we got the Series. Sooooo..m
@@galingtar but that design was the concept for the original Godzilla. A dinosaur with mixtures of a t-rex, iguanodon and stegosaurus this Godzilla just modernized that design.
I think this Godzilla is not as bad as the fandom portrays it, it’s still a cool incarnation of Godzilla
YES!!!!!!!!! I’VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS TO COME OUT FOR SO LONG!!! Happy 20th anniversary Zilla
Godzilla'98 and 2014 are my favorite version.
The '98 design is cool but Emmerich failed in its powers; poor Godzilla(98), Damn Rolan!
But god the cgi in that film for zilla were worse than the 98 movie.
Now this was totally amazing! Thank you guys for this absolutely great video!
Zilla remains in my heart as one of the coolest Kaiju designs, and Jesus H Christ, how I’d kill for a return to film.
Dinobot Kiryu Toho was going to bring back gojira anyway just not as soon.
fisher foster Whatever you say. If you don't like it, stop talking about it.
Dinobot Kiryu
I thought it was a OK monster movie but, as a remake of the original, its horrible
But, I will give it credit for It spawning the Animated Series, and without it we wouldn't have the 1999-2004 Era Of Godzilla
Dinobot Kiryu It’s a Jurassic Park movie that made money by making the title Godzilla
I actually really like Zilla and would love to see him fight Megalon or another bug monster
Imagine they started Kong Vs Godzilla with Zilla, only for Zilla to ran away the moment Godzilla appears.

*WELL DONE!* 👍🏻👍🏻 I like how you were very *professional* with everything you presented here, and it thus comes across in an informative and educational way. 😊
Looking at the whole comment thread here, there's *unfortunately* STILL some *immaturity* going on (involving both Godzilla *and* Zilla fans). 😊
Once again, VERY well done video! #HappyBirthdayZilla!
Could you cover Zilla Jr and the other monsters from The Godzilla TV series?
Sean Dewar *Godzilla Jr* Not zilla Jr
TheAmazingDeltax well shodai godzilla and heisei godzilla aren't the same godzilla, yet we still call them both Godzilla.
TheAmazingDeltax so why not call the Godzilla from the animated series Godzilla Jr.?
TheAmazingDeltax You've got it all wrong. After Tristar made their Godzilla, Toho wasn't happy, but they couldn't rename it into a different creature, so when Final Wars was being made they decided to put in a character that represents Godzilla '98. But they had to make it a different unrelated creature due to legal reasons, only that iteration (and the comics) is named zilla. Toho can't do a damn thing to change anything about that movie, no matter what. Didn't you ever wonder why the title isn't renamed 'Zilla'?
TheAmazingDeltax So if they named it Godzilla Jr. then it remains to be Godzilla Jr. until the end of the world.
I honestly am a big fan of Zilla as a character. We have way too few land-speed based kaiju. It's basically just King Caesar and Zilla for land-speed.
And Baragon…and Anguirus….and Gorosaurus. Not as few as you think.
I really like this Kaiju as a whole and I love that you included cyberzilla. I remember commenting on a video for the gorosaurus profile and you delivered, I was just about to comment again for this video and then saw it in my recommended

Legion Beast Agree. I was introduced to Godzilla after this movie, i was little kid with a Trenchmaster's Zilla figure back then.
