- Ben Sambrano's 1969 Dodge Dart 408 Stroker Build is a one beautiful A-body Mopar great for both show and go. Read more here: bit.ly/Manapua6...
Ben "Manapua" Sambrao acquires this 1969 Dodge Dart in 2018 as a turn key muscle car with the 408 Stroker engine being already in place. Built in North Carolina the small block Mopar was dynod at 615 horsepower, but as most enthusiasts Ben wanted more power. He added 250 shot of Nitrous from NX Express increasing the power to over 750hp.
The 408 Stroker motor is dressed with aftermarket headers, cam and 750 Holley carburetor. The 1969 Dodge Dart has a mini-tubbed 9-inch Ford rear end with 4.11 gears and 727 TorqueFlite transmission with reverse valve body and 3000 stall converter, which Ben has rebuilt right after he acquired the Mopar muscle car.
Another thing Ben did to personalize his 1969 Dodge Dart 408 Stroker was some interior enhancements with the most noticeable being the carbon fiber roll cage and he is planing to install a trans brake soon. So far the Mopar has been at 5 car shows in Ben's area and brought home 5 awards, which makes Ben very happy considering he is a Chevy guy.

Glad to see the Dart making a showing. I built this car. Hope you have a great time with it.
You've done a great job brother. Any current projects?
dalesince59
Gorgeous car, great build.
May I ask what you did to move the rear axle further back, and what is the wheelbase as seen here.
@@FreakOlds It is about a 3" set back .The car has frame connectors and a rear tube sub frame, tied together with a cage. The wheel arches are stock, I narrowed an 8 3/4 rear end and it is tubbed for the big drag radials. The leaf springs are not the super stock ones and it is using Cal Tracs. The reason I added some wheelbase was to add a little straight line stability at speed. This was built as a street car, and the previous owners goal was to get it in the tens, with no power adder. I had it running 11.20 on the first 408 stroker. I did not run the car with the current engine which has about 60 more hp. without the bottle. I have been told the the car pulls the front wheels now. Nice!!!!

Thanks for this story- one of my best buds growing up bot a 69 340 Dart stock in 1970- passed away 7 years ago and this brot back some memories of street cruising/ hell raising / fun times back in those mostly carefree times RIP Frank
I'm glad you enjoyed the story and it brought good memories.
Im a Chevy guy too and also just got a 73 Dodge Dart Swinger. 1 owner 51k miles really great body and interior. Doing a mild build and new Torque Thrust wheels and new paint. Will have a video up when finished.. I love your car also
Good luck with th build and make sure you give us a shout when the car is ready
Awesome!! From a fellow Dart owner... will Twins actually my ladies had hers since she was 17 and still slant6. Mine I've had for 6 years I'm also a 2nd owner..
It's great to see another awesome Mopar here again! Really impressive Dart. And what a sound of engine!
You should hear it when the exhaust cut outs are open!
The baddest Dart we have featured so far?
@@HotAmericanCars I say it's one of the baddest Darts so far!
@@revmyengine567 Sounds about right
@@HotAmericanCars It's quite likely.
Back in the early 1970s I rode in a friends dart swinger gt s. I don't know what mods he had but it pulled the front wheels off the ground and stuck you to the seat. I love those darts
The A-body Mopars were born racers. Even the Slant 6 powered cars could run great with few tweaks. Do you own any muscle car or just enjoy watching videos?
@@HotAmericanCars . I have a 1971 Z/28 that I bought in1983. LT -1 with a M21 and 3.73. In the 1980s I ran it and did 13.4 at 102mph. No real 1/4:mile mods except traction bars which were only anti wheel hop bars. It does have a 280H cam and roller rockers and headers with the stock 780cfm and snowflake dual plane. I am more of a canyon Carver. It is a numbers matching drivetrain. In 2012 I kept to my canyon carving and went with coil overs and tubular A arms and hotchkis bars and SFCs. 4 wheel wildwood brakes and updated rushforth rims. Although rough riding it handles incredible. I wish I had this set up in the 1980s and 1990s. The fuel, cooling and brake system and exhaust are all new. It isn't really a quarter mile car but I love watching cars that hook up and go. Sorry but when you asked if I had a muscle car you clicked my " on" button. I will be watching more videos
Nice car I was a Chevy guy now I have a 68 dart gt 440/727, 68 gts, 70-71-72& 74 swingers. Never liked the darts back in the day but they definitely grow on you.
You're right about that. They were made for one purpose - to go fast in a straight line, rather than be pretty. But today, the Darts make great hot rods. Would love to know more about the one on your profile photo
That is one mean machine. Long ago I had one, 69 GTS 340, it was pretty quick it self.
Hell yeah, A-body Mopars are great performers
Absolutely a beautiful MOPAR
Thanks, what's not to like, right?
I'm a chevy guy... not any more!!
Raw machinery!
Wow this brings back memories for me! Your car looks exactly like the 1969 Dodge Dart custom that I had when I was 17. It had the 273 Cu. In. V-8 with a 4 speed manual shift, hurst shifter, and Headman Headers. Sweet car, I had chrome reverse rims but I always loved the titan mags a real performer for its size.
Thanks Tom, glad the video brought good memories
Oooooff, them Darts are something else!!
Love your car bro, that’s a tough-looking beauty.
Yup, Ben treated himself with a nice Mopar, considering he is a Chevy guy
My 68 was that color. Love it.
I hope it brought good memories

That is an amazing beast. Truly beautiful congratulations on owning it
There are some people trying to find something that isn't right, but that happens on every car video I've watched. Glad you appreciate the Dart. What do you like about it the most?
Hot American Cars
The stance. And the way that it don’t look over the top.
Great job Dalesince59. I built a'65 Dart with an old Arlen Vanke 440. Love the'69
I love how Ben was honest when he said he was a Chevy guy
Was it my imagination or did the wheels appear to be sitting rearward of the center of
the wheel well opening?
Not your imagination :) if you browse throughout the comments, you'll see the discussion about it, and the owner replies
Awesome Dart. I gotta assume the 28 dislikes are the 9" rear lol. Love the stance!
You're right about that. Glad you enjoyed the video. We have featured several Darts, so if you like them A-bodies check out our other videos
maybe because the rear is too far back, wheels should be centered in the wheelwell
AWSOME CAR!!! Best color too.
Thanks, glad you liked it
That idle sounds kinda like the drum intro to Valen Halen’s Hot for Teacher. Just slowed down a bit.
Nice comparison. Thanks
There is more horsepower available in that motor with 2 750's carburetors and a tunnel ram
Probably, but I suppose Ben is happy with what he got for the street
Is it just me or does the rear-end look set more rearward
Thomas Nathan it’s not just you, but not sure why it looks that way 🤔
It's sitting back to far, ruins the whole car..
It is, looks like a two or three inch (?) offset.
It is not just you it does look set rearward - doesnt look right to me.
The rear is not installed correctly, also 650+200=800! And it doesn’t have “cams” , stick to Chevy’s!
Awsome Mopar muscle,enjoy
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the story
Bad ass Dart
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it
She's a beaut of a beast .
Definitely great looking and sounding Mopar with plenty of power and torque for the street. Thanks for checking it out
From the side this looks exactly like my old Australian 1970 VG 265ci 6 Valiant Pacer, just mine had 4 doors. There are also 2 Door one's like this.
I hope the story brought some good memories
@@HotAmericanCars It does, I used to be able to replace my (very heavy bb 6 with g box still attached) using a 3 legged tripod & endless chain out side by my self in the day, no computers to worry about either lol.

Great A-body Mopar all the way around, isn't it?

Car looks pretty mint, except at 2:24 you notice the one item that was too much to add? A new rear right brake light bulb.
Yeah, we noticed that after the video was filmed. Anyway, not a big deal. Glad you liked it
Its not the brake light, it was the left turn signal, the flasher was out and i left the turn signal on by accident! Good catch!
I daily drive my 68 Dart.. Slant6 to 318 swap.. this Dart feature is dream build.. I'm looking for 275 or more HP out of mine.. peace ..

I’m not buying those horsepower number with out more info on motor and dyno chart.
I get it brother. All the info provided from the owner is in the article on our website (no dyno sheet). Link to the write up in the video description, in case you want to have a look
@@HotAmericanCars yes, where is dyno sheet and or Drag strip e t, videos are the easiest thing to make about a car , but no one races and has video of cars ,( like 74 440" small block 700 hp RR that shows a 15 second pass spinning tires and nothing else in the last 4 years)
Yeah, sounds kind of optimistic to me...but it all hinges on the cylinder heads and the cam....the way I see it. ...SOUNDS like he's got a fair amount of duration at .050 of cam lift.....I think his idle is a bit low.

After a couple of months he WAS a Chevy guy!
He was and still is a Chevy guy in general, but a true car guy can enjoy any muscle car, right?
Pretty cool. The doors are a different color than the body. Good example as how not to paint a car. HP seems a bit high, but it’s still a bitchin car!
Glad you liked it despite the observations. Stay well
Beautiful car but is it just the way the pictures were taken it looks like the rear wheel on the drivers side sits way back it looks like the wheel is not centered in the wheel well like the rear end is shifted sideways weird.
Love this!
Bryan Martin A body that has it all, right?
Rear end isn't set in the car right
I hear you, but not sure why is that and Ben didn't mention anything about it either

Well somebody needs to tell the dude the Rear Wheels look like they are about two inches to far back in the well how do I know this Because Ive personally worked on original 383 inch Darts 440 Inch Darts 340 I ch darts. .
If you go through the comments, you'll see a lot of opinions similar to yours in regards to the rear end, as well as answers by the owner.
Its a bad ride but your rearend is not sitting right
Glad you enjoyed the story of Ben's Dart. Here is what the builder says in regards to the rearend:
It is about a 3" set back .The car has frame connectors and a rear tube sub frame, tied together with a cage. The wheel arches are stock, I narrowed an 8 3/4 rear end and it is tubbed for the big drag radials. The leaf springs are not the super stock ones and it is using Cal Tracs. The reason I added some wheelbase was to add a little straight line stability at speed. This was built as a street car,
l would move that rear end forward it doesn't look right where it is,And than it would be beautiful, Don't get me wrong it's a beautiful car but l couldn't live with it being set back like that it's to far.
Yeah, you're not the only one to notice that, but I'm not sure what's the deal. Ben didn't mention anything about it either when we did the story
BRAKE LIGHT IS OUT!!
Dave Roles Good eye :) hope you enjoyed the video
Like everything BUT the 2 mpg.
I hear you
We were just messing around, tried to throw in some jokes since everyone at the shoot was so serious!
He said it's got headers CAMS, hmmm, it only has 1 cam. This just shows anyone with money can Buy a car, but doesnt mean they know anything about it. Building a car is where you really know your shit, if you do it right
He sure said "Cams" in the videos, but that doesn't mean he is clueless. Not everyone has the knowledge and skills to build a car from scratch, but that doesn't mean we should hate this guys for buying and enjoying nice cars, right?
@@HotAmericanCarsI understand your point but, I didn't say anything about "hate" & yeah some people are in wheel chairs or blind or have no arms & they can't necessarily do that kind of work, but it isn't hard to learn, if you want too.
Thanks for the nice car video.
@@HotAmericanCars to me there's two different types of dudes, both car guys 1 builds, 1 buys. i guess that what makes this country great. I talk cars to people that have absolutely 0 clue about anything, men women & children & I explain in detail so they can understand why I have this passion.
@@Moparmaga-1 The 2 types of car guys you're talking about exists in every country around the world brother. Take BMW's for example...huge communities across the globe where buyers and builders share one passion. You can also find a lot of old school muscle car enthusiasts in the Scandinavian countries for example who know a lot more than many muscle car owners in the States. The only important thing to me is to show cool car stories to people who are interested in these type of builds and this is my contribution to the preservation of American automotive history.

Yes, that's the info we got from the owner. 750 when sprayed

Fix the tail light yet?
Hahahah....plenty of awesomeness on this Mopar, screw the tailight :D
I got the Bezel for it.. just I. Case. Haha
Tail light is probably the bulb. I doubt the bulb is burned out on the inside. The tip of the bulb gets burned out and won’t make connection anymore. It will have a dished in appearance to it.
Its the turn signal switch, when they were shooting inside the car, they hit the turn signal. It doesn't blink, I haven't replaced the switch yet!
What camshaft are you using? Thanks!
Hey man. All the info we got is in the description
What the best time in quarter mile ?
According to the builder, it ran 11's with the previous 408 stroker, now with the new engine (60hp+) and the bottle should be in the 10's or why not even high 9;s
Needs a bigger carburetor
You can always get more juice of that motor, but he ain't a racer, so it meet his needs
No track times?
The builder joined the discussion here in the comments and said the car ran 9's with the previous stroker set up. At the time we featured the car, Ben didn't race it yet

Nope, not raced yet

You can see picture of it in the article. Link is in the video description.
Nice quality looking build, runs nice. The rearend placement and the bulged rear quarter panels make it look like an ugly old 64-65 Chevrolet from the side. Big bucks to fix that now though.
64-65 Chevelle that is
Glad you liked the build. If you browse through the comments you'll see the builder explaining why the rear is done like that
Hot American Cars Saw his explanation. I ran a modified 69GTS340 for several years that with the 3.23 gearpot would easily clip 1
As I was saying before clumsily hitting send, my Dart would easily clip 140 without any instability due to wheelbase, I just don’t buy that story
The quarter panels are not bulged, they are stock. I did not know I was going to start quite a crap storm setting back the rear end. I like the look, the guy I built it for liked it and it works well on the track.
How many cams? :) Nice ride.
Ben isn’t an actor, got camera shy on few occasions during the video I guess

Ford rear? WHY? Mopar made the best diffs makes no sense.
I was suprised as well. Not sure why the builder decided to go with Ford though
@@HotAmericanCars Well they are cheap and parts are easy to find I read in a old Hot Rod magazine that the stock Mopar 8.3/4 is stronger than a Ford 9 inch Ive never had problems with mine and Ive had it 22 years. Still a really nice car.

No Mopar guy puts a Ford 9” in a Mopar. But he didn’t build it either. 🙄
Yup, and Ben actually told us he is a Chevy guy, just liked the Dart and got one
E.T., MPH?
I put a 9" in my duster, because it's the best rear end out there! 10 teens off the transbrake over and over! It's also lighter than an 8 3/4 with the aluminum center section.
@@BuckI2Bdad Builder's reply: I had it running 11.20 on the first 408 stroker. I did not run the car with the current engine which has about 60 more hp. without the bottle.
Please sell it to a Mopar guy.
You are not making that much power from a 408. You might have 5-600hp at the wheel with the shot.... MAYBE.
Take that stupid dodge badge off the back.
Whoever centered that Axle needs an exam.
615 hp not. And rearend looks stupid so far back
