0:00 "It's known as the Graveyard"
"Graveyard" is originally coined by this movie, but Nürburgring was no doubt a dangerous track. One of the most dangerous turn was called "the Mine", after 1976, this same corner is now also known as "(Niki) Lauda Left"
0:20 "The Nürburgring is the most stupid, barbaric, outdated, and dangerous track in the world."
0:52 "You leave without your fee, but you might leave with your life."
1:05 "This is just tactics"

"I'm quicker than all of you" - Игры
“Because I’m quicker than all of you” bruh ngl that was badass
@C G no all of the top drivers at the time are almost as quick or quicker than Niki. It is very stupid to compare drivers and all drivers are quick
@C G At the time Nki was the world champion and also held the record for fastest lap at the Nurburgring so I mean... If anyone at that point in time had a right to say it, it was Niki.
@@fightingfalcon826 what
Daniel bruhl is addicting in this character. Can’t get enough. I love this
In Falcon and the Winter Soldier
Bruhl:🕺🕺🕺🕺
One thing I really like about this scene is how they actually managed to get the driver likenesses right for all the drivers in the 1976 season. You can spot out Tom Pryce, Harald Ertl (you can't miss his amazing beard), Jody Scheckter, John Watson, Carlos Pace, Jacques Laffite (?) and Ronnie Peterson in the group, and there's definitely more I didn't recognise. There is some absolutely fantastic attention to detail.
I love how Ronnie Peterson is itching his chin when Niki says hes quicker than all of them.
Tom Pryce in the black racing suit, Arturo Merzario is the driver who agrees with James, Guy Edwards is the one who mentions the race fee and one other I spotted was Patrick Depailler in the light blue racing overalls, looking rugged.
Where are Laffite, Scheckter, Watson and Pace?
Also there is also Emerson Fittipaldi next to Lauda
@The Burbles that’s Emerson Fittipaldi
You can also see Jochen Maas in other parts of the film
In this scene you can him in the left, when you see the drivers from behind while they vote for in favor of racing
Looking very similar to the real Jochen Maas
This movie convinced me Hemsworth could act.
so i saw this movie before thor and any of the avengers movies and i think it made the marvel movies better. i see more subtlety in his acting (i might be imagining it, but either way he's becoming one of my favorite actors)
He sure impersonated Hunt.
@@kumaflamewar6524 I've noticed this too. He does have a lot of subtlety and nuance in his roles
@@toomuchtunaaa There's a reporter that told him that too, that he notice that something that is exciting and interesting about his character as Thor is that he notice that Chris H always manage to bring sightly different nuances to it, this reported said that before Ragnarok came out... This was on and MCU press tour but I don't remember for which movie.
in the aftermath, Niki would have been better off not to race and let the other drivers race. his accident made him miss two more races (the austrian and the dutch grand Prix) due to his injuries, and he missed the title by one single point. and I tend to think that this is why up to date Niki has a tendency to change his mind quickly. in 1976, he decided to race in spite of having a bad hunch on it. If he now thinks something isn't right, he simply won't do it - period.
But that would make him look like a pussy and hurt his image in public
@@abhishekpawar5126 Pfftt... I'll look like a pussy anyway day over losing my life.

He's trying to prove a point. He'd have the advantage if the race went on but still he's willing to throw that advantage away for safety.
He really wasn't faster than all of them. There was one guy who Niki Lauda was sitting next to, He was talking to him at the start of the video, with the blue kit, and the blond hair. Who's that guy you ask, Ronnie Peterson.
Ronnie quicker than Andretti in race pace?
He was desperately trying to stop the race
@@vittukalle1398 Nah, not really. Lauda was a better driver, no contest.
One of the movie’s few inaccuracies.
In reality, this meeting took place months earlier, before the season even started, and Lauda’s first objective wasn’t to cancel the race, but have it moved to Hockenheim, which was a much safer track.

When someone says Spiderman 2 is terrible
Aaand nobody listened to him and he burnt his face off. Well done, James!
HeHoZy But his crash wasn‘t because of the rain...
It was hard to listen to him, because he was perceived as arrogant prick
it wasnt DIRECTLY because of the rain - but maybe niki would have slided less and could brake more if the track wasnt wet. and you know the crash would have been less hard.
It was still nikkis choice to race
He could back out of it, i mean, he did the same in Suzuka.
This scene clearly portrays why rivalry is important.
Though Niki here is skilled and a contender, his Rival’s ( J.Hunt ) argument had a greater impact on him to breach the risk barrier which Niki kept telling right from the start to end of this movie…!
That one moment when ego triggered and manipulated his mind to breach his limits and do the impossible out there ! To hold his record but things went south !
That’s why I love this scene a lotttttt in this movie. It tells you how rivalry can sometime put people in doing things which were once agreed to be not possible and when people never tried to see what lies ahead . Even for the contender here !
You can very well see the gentle conversation at the end of this movie that happens inside the aerodrome. That they both got mutual respect on each other. Lovely ending with that emotional BGM portraying the Sportsmanship 🙌🏽
The development in safety and other things in Formula 1 are greatly influenced by such scenarios of the past ! 🙌🏽
Niki Lauda: - Sincerely worried for his & his competitor's safety; opts to 86 the race.
Also Niki Lauda: - Proceeds to vex his fellow drivers into wanting to race.
People today don't realize, how Nikki was more concerned about driver safety than the race officials, he knew which tracks were dangerous, and those that weren't, although he had a reputation as being distant, and, robotic, he always had the best interests of the other drivers in mind. Hunt was a freak, along with some of the other drivers at this time in Formula One, they believed they were invincible, and although knew they could die, never thought it would happen to them. It was a different time, but thank god racing officials got their act together with proper safety measures today, so you didn't have the needless deaths that occurred during the 70's

1:20 - They chose a good actor to play Ronnie Peterson. Looks almost exactly like him.
Niki Lauda (RIP) did had a point. The Nürburgring was a very dangerous track, it's not the weather, its the track itself.
Formula 1 in the 70’s, put safety last before racing.
1:22 - Maybe he's just frightened. Bernie Ecclestone.
Neutral Ending: Niki Lauda crashes, suffering severe burn injuries that disfigured his face and costed him two Grand Prixs. The championship was now in jeopardy.
Good Ending: The track dried up just in time. Niki Lauda was able to win the German Grand Prix, and would go on to win the championship!
Bad Ending: Lauda was right. The dangerous nature of the Nürburgring led to the deaths of himself and James Hunt, causing mass protest that ends the season several races early.
Secret Ending: People liked Lauda enough that the race was cancelled. With one less race on the calendar, James Hunt has one less race to beat Lauda and win the championship.
This is extremely similar to when Senna wanted and failed to cancel his race and ended up dying.
I don’t think Senna tried to cancel San Marino in 94. He was certainly concerned about the fact that Ratzenberger had died, and Rubens Barrichello nearly did, but he never quit.
@callum ryker Senna was approached by Sid Watkins who suggested that they both quit, Ayrton considered it but decided not to 😢

only one to do 7 minutes, that is until the guy who drove the gt2rs came along to do 6:47.3
Dusty Maku He's the only guy to have a lap bellow 7 minutes on an f1 car...
6:11.13 is the record time
On a shorter track, yes.
Mike Mellor Then which?
The track layout for that 6:11.13 (1983) is 2 km shorter than the track Lauda drove on (1975). He remains the only driver to have ever lapped the old layout in under 7 minutes.
Isn't it known as the Green Hell in F1, not the grave yard? I've been following F1 a long, long time and have only heard the long track called the Green Hell.
Agree. I heard Spa called 'a graveyard of speed' once, by Brock Yates. But Spa is not the 'ring
im pretty sure that's creative license. while the "green hell" evokes strong feeling for F1 fans who know why Sir Jackie Stewart called it such, the "graveyard" evokes a more direct imagery for the average viewer. especially when we consider the following scene
Up untio jackie coines the term after a couple of championships

does anyone know who the other drivers are in this scene?
I never watch niki, i only read wikipedia and watch the movie....but I believe niki lauda is one if not the greatest f1 race car driver ever....smart, calculated, have balls.... To me it's Schumacher, Senna, Lauda..
Might have gotten the whole room to agree if he proposed to postpone the race instead until the weather becomes better.
Couldn't they just have postponed? I'm not really educated in Formula 1 regulations
Ayush Poolovadoo they can to a certain extent. But the safety was worse then and I think it's shown live on t.v so it's difficult to postpone it for too long.
Richard Dragon in that time safety regulations were far from as strict as today besides the races had to show on tv at their times so if the race got postponed the FIA could lose a lot of money from the tv companies
So basically nowadays it's like that too but when it comes to making cars more powerful and faster which would also mean that they would get more dangerous then FIA says no to that since it is "dangerous" but when it comes to postponing races then no way we will allow that because FIA will lose money
tgaanker hijki lol literally Italy 2017 awful rain and red flag most of FP3 and quallifying and they just do some regulations that dont allow teams to change stuff in some parts of the car. Also you know that downforce upgrades are good for safety because more downforce = more grip
In 2005 at Indianapolis. None of the drivers felt safe driving on Michelin tires. They were coming apart. Ralf Schumacher hit the wall hard.
The drivers tried to get the FIA into putting a chicane at short shoot at oval turn one.
The FIA President at time Max Mosley refused.
What’s below was the end result.
On Raceday, all Michelin tire teams pulled into the garage and the Bridgestone teams raced.
That was six cars with Ferrari and Michael Schumacher leading and winning.
After that race it left a black eye on F1 in United States for a good long while.

To my knowledge the speeches here were pretty accurate what was said. So if Nikki had been more humble and not such a dick, the others would have taken his side and he would not had that horrible crash.
but all had good points. He, that the risk was too high, Hunt, that a full cancel would be unfair advantage for Nikki in the championship and also Hunt, that it sometimes is best that people like you.

I would like to know who's who in this scene. I mean the other drivers.
Check out NicoRosebot's comment and the two replies.
This made me not respect Hunt at all. Forced Niki to race when he didn’t want to & his accident was only reason Hunt won. By 1 single point by passing a dead man.
The scene implies that the drivers voted overwhelmingly to race. In fact, Lauda lost by only one vote.
Lauda could have opted out of the race regardless of the voting.
Mario G He did at first. But in the end he decided to race.
"I'm the only person with a track time below 7 minutes"
And then, eight years later there was this 25 year old boy named "Stefan Bellof" that burned a 6:11:13 lap into the concrete.

To me Monaco is the worst track to race on
AA L haha do you even know the Nordschleife?
+AA L They reach way lower speeds at Monaco, it's not as crazy and risky as the Nordschleife. Monaco is a rather fun track!
Spa-Francorchamps was arguably more dangerous but the length of the Nurburgring was such that it might be quite a long time before they found you under your car, off in the trees, roasting merrily in a fire.
Monaco is just a parade track for tradition. No overtakes are possible especially now since the cars are so damn long.
@@bbb462cid Agreed. Lauda was only saved because two drivers crashed into him - if they weaved past him, he would've certainly died.
Niki should drive safely on that race. But he tried to beat James and it caused that crash... Don't blame rain. It was niki's greed.
San Marino Not greed as such, just pure competitiveness. Once the engines are on and the lights are green it takes them over. My guess is once Niki had lined up on the grid before the off, he would have been happy with a fifth place or fourth. But he also had at the time one very competitive car. Put that car in the hands of the young talented Niki and he could not help himself. Also another thing to consider was how comfortable Niki felt on the old Nurbergring. The fastest lap the year before coming to mind.
No F1 driver that ever lived is worthy of his role if he doesn't try to win if he sees he has the chance. These are the Alpha males of a pack of purely Alpha males. Lauda had the car and the talent.
the beginning of the movie sums it up pretty well, nikis narration says he was chasing him like an asshole. "i am made to win" senna once said, and it sums up the attitude of every f1 driver worth their pay
If he did that he would be called David Coulthard.
Yes that and his team messed up his car
