I like this raised heel truss application.....again, saved this vid for discussions with builder and structural engineer....I just really appreciate the drawings Steve💯finally watching what a quality architect does and thinks and applies.....we are so fortunate to have you wanting to do this!☺🇨🇦

I love the ideas you bring to make the house so much more livable without costing a fortune!

It’s good to see an architect that respects the builders knowledge and experience and will include their input in the process. An architect would never think of designing without the input of an engineer. Many times the forces and moments applied on materials are anything but intuitive and the engineer is there to do the calcs to insure the design is sound. It’s the same with the builder. What seems intuitively simple to build may not always be the case, so consulting the builder with design options can be advantageous to not only the budget but the schedule as well.

@@psidvicious Another good architecture channel that focuses on performance and construction details is Asiri Designs. Rather than show you how he did it, he shows several ways it can be done. He also puts out publications on his website, some free.

Raising my daughters living space as the Hurricane IAN flooded her house to 7' all lost. So going up. My question is I am thinking of adding a collar beam to the bottom of the scissor truss , even if it is only 2'. Reason- trusses are on 2' centers as no loads in Florida, but there is some flex, compression, most sport cracks along the apex of the wallboard- sheet rock ceiling. Thoughts? PS we have an architect we can't work with- so all como goes through our contractor. As you note very difficult.

    Roof design is so fascinating.
Can you put a scissor truss onto a 50x50 building without interior walls? Or would that not be advisable in northern Maine ?

It's possible for sure and done regularily, but you have to watch the overall height. Typically trusses have a maximum height dictated by the fabrication & shipping constraints. Maybe 12 feet high at the peak, and an interior ceiling slope roughly 1/2 the roof slope. I would guess that you could only get a ceiling slope around 2/12 or maybe 3/12. You also have to account for the truss trying to push the walls outword under full load.

@@JackOfHearts42 Agreed - just has to be properly engineered

I have a parallel cord steel truss spanning 44' without intermediate support. Keep in mind, the roof pitch has a large factor on this decision.

Steve, what I do is when I find one of your video's that has a clip where the drawing is what I need, I pause the video and take a photo of it off the screen and set it to .jpg format so I can attach it to be sent and discussed with building personnel. Making it very clear visually what I think is a good idea and if any changes we have your template to work from. See Steve! Just see how important your work and teachings are!💯👍☺ 🙏🇨🇦,

How steep can scissor trusses be? For instance can we use a scissor truss placed on a 10 ft wall to make a 20ft vault? Hope that makes sense. Thanks!

Hi Steve, how did you insulate these scissor trusses. Vented or unvented?
