    I grew up on the Aliens dark horse comics, Predator and AVP too. Thats why i liked Prey so much, it just had that dark horse comic feel. Nothing overt, expansive, just short and sweet.

    It's possible that the Space Jockeys weren't a singular species but a collection of species under one banner, and over the course of thousands of years kept modifying themselves -- sort of like how the Combine in Half Life reengineered themselves and other species (like the Synths, humans becoming Overwatch, et cetera).
    The Engineers, the Mala'kak, the Planet 5 inhabitants, the Space Jockeys seen on the Derelict and City here...
    It's also possible that it's a cycle; one species follows in the footsteps of another, going down the same route by reverse engineering the technology.
    The Engineers? They followed the Space Jockeys, who themselves probably followed the Xeno City Inhabitants.
    The Planet 5 Inhabitants were likely following the Engineers' footsteps, and we were a failed predecessor to them (which is why the Engineers wanted to destroy us after we proved a failure).

    The top down/3rd person view along with the turn-based RPG element seems to do more justice to the cannon lore/source material than say, a FPS or something akin to later fallout installments (which gives the option of either if I remember?) but the success/positive feedback from players and fans alike is the biggest triumph in my opinion due to seeing a lot of companies *cough-disney-cough* trying to push an agenda instead of just adding to the franchise while staying true to fans.

    I'm not sure I agree with your statement that the beings under Oldavi were the game's "interpretation" of the space jockey from Alien. One, they're much much larger two, the head bears little resemblance and three, the giant "titan" xeno born from one has a massive slug like tail. It's only my opinion but the jockey didn't seem to have any kind of tail or be anywhere near the "citizens" massive size. The ancient citizens were more probably a different race of XTs, whose civilization ran concurrent to, or perhaps predates the Engineers.

      I had always had the theory that the Space Jockey we see in the chair was an altered form. Genetically manipulated to fulfill a function, and thus not a full, or perfect representation of the Space Jockey species. Maybe every being in that society is altered to fulfill a function, so what would an unaltered one look like?
      Just a scifi theory.

    • @MikeB-us5cg
      @MikeB-us5cg 8 месяцев назад

      It might be that the Jockeys followed these aliens or vice versa, and the Engineers followed them, with the Planet 5 Inhabitants being the next in the cycle (and humans being a failed attempt before 5, so that's why we were slated for destruction).
      Whether it's by being shepherded by a preceding species or they're just reverse engineering and following in footsteps is the question.

    Because you also have the AVP games which are CLEARLY set in the alien universe.
    Then apparently the rookie from AVP is in alien fire team elite so does that mean that is also not cannon to the alien universe?

    I'm just fascinated to know what Giger's original inspiration for his biomechanical concept was. It seems deeply linked to sexuality and especially to horror elements of sexuality but true biological sex is obviously completely absent in his alien civilizations. I think it begs the question of whether or not the abandonment of nature for greater technological progress, power and knowledge is worth it in the long term .. and this question is also reflected by bio synthetic theories around the existence of 'the greys'. Giger's work has stood the test of time because of its mystery, philosophical depth and relevance to our own real lives.

    I completely agree that the implied connection was very much to the Engineers, not the Predators, but you gotta knock it off with this "cannon" thing. For one, this is a sci-fi monster fiction franchise, not a religion, there is no "correct" interpretation, all of it is equally false. We do not live in the 23rd century, xenomorphs are not real, it's fiction, it's all made up. But more importantly there's absolutely nothing to suggest that Predators simply don't exist in really any of the Alien timelines and all the evidence in the world to suggest that they do. The films have never broken continuity, all 8 of them fit into the same timeline, there's no contradictions between any of them that say otherwise, and claim that they don't is simply your *personal* interpretation. You're allowed to view the media in any way you like as the audience, but you do not get to dictate the "correct" interpretation to others when it explicitly contradicts the primary media that the whole rest of the franchise is based on - the films. You're basically trying to tell me that the Joker doesn't exist in your Batman religion because you said so. Doesn't work that way, man.
    I think that idea of the city itself creating xenomorphs is pretty compelling. At this point it's pretty much a done deal that the xenos are a product of the Jockeys/Engineers, and the only real question left is if the black goo or the xenos came first. As for these guys, it's pretty clear that the Jockeys/Engineers are were a vast space faring race and had many cities on many different star systems. We've seen living ones in only 2 movies yet we've seen 3 wildly different cultures. The sacrificial Engineers don't have ships that look anything like the false-biomechanoids of LV-223, and the ones on Planet 4 are barely even recognizable as related. But the base on LV-223 does make it clear the derelict is part of that same larger civilization, but it's truly biomechanical, the Engineers from LV-223 had purely mechanical ships, only their weapons where biological. It stands to reason then that the Xeno City, the derelict, the LV-223 base, the sacrificial Engineers, and the ones on Planet 4 are all descendants of the same original Jockey race. Some of them went full Giger, some of them went the complete opposite, and some are in between. The alien that came out of the original Space Jockey would look nothing like an alien coming out of an Engineer and of course both would be different from the titan alien, but they are still essentially the same species, after a fashion.
    When you take into account the full weight of the fact that some groups of Engineers had such a mastery over biotech they could grow giant living things as part of their infrastructure, automating production of a weapon we already know they're responsible for making sounds trivially easy. The only link that isn't fully explicit is the one between the Xeno City and the Engineers of Prometheus and Covenant, but if you take what the first movie says about the original Pilot at face value, and accept some of the authorial intent, that gap closes pretty quickly. So, it's less of a fan theory, more of a pretty reasonable assumption.
    ...wait, they turned infectoids into Stroggs in this game? That's sick!

    • @sonofeyeabovealleffoff5462
      @sonofeyeabovealleffoff5462 9 месяцев назад

      Or... Hear me out...
      The Space Jockeys are the Annunaki,
      and the Engineers are the Iggigi from Mesopotamian myth cycles. Look at the Mural in Prometheus. I've always seen its interpretation as the Engineers condemning and shunning something.
      "WE DON'T NEED YOU ANYMORE; *WE* ARE THE GODS NOW.)
      The Iggigi revolted against the Annunaki.
      I think out of all the fan interpretations, Project: ACHERON made the best interpretation with some lovecraftian-esque horror thrown in.
      Go look up Alien: Awakening Animated.
      All 6 parts provide a solid fan theory that solidly ties all of Covenant, Prometheus and the original lore of Alien together. if I was a billionaire, I'd give Project: ACHERON money and have him correct Scott's BS.
