Foreign countries actually come to Kenya for benchmarking, to learn more about Mpesa, basically Kenya is going cashless. We pay everything through Mpesa, from the smallest vendors to the largest of vendors, from street food to basic supermarket shopping. It's available even to the cheapest of phones for those who can't operate touch screen phones. Also, the Kenyan government banned the use of plastic bags. We don't use plastic bags to just take care of the environment, we use some reusable bags.
This is something that I love not caring cadh
We were the first ones with it in the world
Yes, one of such countries is Ghana. They learned a lot from MPESA.
I'm proud to be a Kenyan 🇰🇪😜
We've not heard about cassava and yam? Really?
Nice video. Should do more research though.
Ironically, Kenya is one of the largest exporters of pepper, including hot chilli, in the world. We grow lots of pepper but do not eat as much. Kenyans know, grow, and eat yams, cassava, millet, bananas, etc, as a source of carbs but not on a large scale like Nigerians. Most staple foods in kenya are derived from maize, rice, and wheat. About temperature, Nairobi is in Kenya highland at an altitude 5500 ft above sea level, hence its cold. Some places are really cold and may even snow, like Nyahururu environs, Timboroa .. but some lower altitude places are warmer, like Kisumu and Mombasa. It is this variation of weather that creates diverse ecological zones, terrains, and wildlife that produce one of the most beautiful countries on earth. Kenyan here watching from UK ❤🇰🇪
Absolute FACTS
Last one is cap 🧢,we do have yam but unlike Nigeria it's not the staple food, and it's really common in different cultures and regions in kenya, like the central oart and coastal part, yams are widely used, of course not that much in Nairobi because it's diverse and has many types of people from the world, but be sure to expect yams in Kilifi, Kwale, Mombasa and the highland regions (country side)so ...... Yes we do know and eat yums/cassava or whatever you want to call it❤️🇰🇪
Even Nyanza along rivers there is alot of plenty yams. or where I am from in Nyanza along the rivers we plant them.
So true
We have both Yam and Cassava..
Actually those are our traditional food..
Our parents grew up eating them almost on a daily basis..
The problem is that the production of the said items have gone down ..
As for hot chilli, we are actually amongst the largest exporters in Africa, pilipili is everywhere (from restaurants, markets etc) only that majority we don't take it so if you are in a hotel,, youll have to request the waiter for it (you'll get it for free)
We have yams and pepper you just have to ask as most restaurants make quick food. Yams people cook at home
Hi! Kenyan here!!
We actually have Yams in the Eastern Part of Kenya and Cassava is grown in all parts of Kenya. The difference is we incorporate it into the Ugali flour.
Otherwise, Karibu Kenya!!!!
Weather: he travelled during cold season. July - August . There is hot season Jan-March. Rainy season April- June. Short rain season September-December
Cassava: we have cassava on the western side of Kenya. Some 30 yrs age cassava were poisonous and many died. So many stopped eating.
You will find millet, sorghum, arrow roots, maize, sweet potatoes.
We also call chilli pepper "pelepele" like Kenyans in South Africa. kiSwali and Zulu seem to have a lot of common words.
We Kenyans call it pilipili
Bantu languages.
Bantu!
Swahili uses bantu alphabet or most of it's connotation have bantu origin.
Because there are Indians in South Africa too, "pili pili" is from an Indian language, but its true bantu share a lot of words, like in Zulu they say "Mosi" and Kiswahili "moshi" --smoke.
I think the vlogger was comparing nigeria to kenya. Kenya isn't cold throughout the year. I can describe the weather here as of optimum temperature. Not too hot too cold. Some months are hotter amd others cold but overall the weather is not on any extremes. Perfect weather I must say!!!
You’re most welcome to visit Kenya. It’s a beautiful country with amazing people. You will love it here.🇰🇪
i think he has only been in Nairobi. visit the coastal tribes, we eat alots of chill, we plant different types of cassava, we make flour, crisps etc ..we have plantains. there are 44 tribes in kenya and we all cook different. i think he had interaction with the Kikuyus,Kambas and the Luos
We have cassava here,we even have some type of ugali cooked with cassava flour, porridge too.
Currently, this is the cold season (July), otherwise Kenya is normally very warm, even hot(!) especially in January. 😊
The brother was pretty balanced assessment of my beloved country
Let's goooooo.... We on the road to 200k let's get it, hit it❤️🥊🇰🇪🇰🇪🇰🇪🇰🇪🇰🇪
Yeahhhhh fam! We’re going to get there!❤️
Nairobi isn't always cold. You need to know the changing weather patterns. Around the end of June, July, August and sometimes early September, it's extremely cold. It's like African winter. In December and January, it's extremely hot. The weather changes.
M-Pesa is big here in Kenya. You do not have to be waiting for change everytime, and never worry about losing cash ever.
The best part is that even if you loose your phone your money in Mpesa remains intact.
@@sunshinerays7000 Sure
Kenya 🇰🇪, Jamaica 🇯🇲, India 🇮🇳, South Africa 🇿🇦, all drive on the left side of the road.
I drove in West Virginia and made that mistake and Americans honked for dear life. I’m still having nightmares about that. I am not driving till I’m ready. 😳
i love this couple.... you should move to Kenya and settle here for good.. How sweet!
Am a Kenyan living in Dallas and I would love to have a conversation with you guys …
We have lots of yam and cassava in Kenya. And pepper-pilipili too. Depends where you were. Welcome to Kenya 🇰🇪
Am proudly kenyan, and just have to point out that this dude look like wocka flocka flame🔥🔥🔥🔥
If you go to kisumu you will get more cassava because they eat it as Ugali not much in other places
It's western kenya generally.
Actually we Kenyans love pepper but we eat with moderation not too hot, we even grow cassava, yams arrowroots etc. American couple karibu Kenya
as for the weather, it just depends on during what season you visit. He was probably was there during the cold season. but it's not always cold.
That's a big lie on cassava. Outside big towns we have cassava flour for ugali, porridge normally mixed with sorghum/millet, or cooked raw or roasted. It's even sold all over in Nairobi if you wanted. Most likely you were on the middle class residential areas where they love foreign food.
There is cassava in Western Kenya! It’s mixed with sorghum and the flour used to make sorghum Gali!
😂😂its not like we dont have cassava its just not part of our everyday food
Kenya actually has a lot of Yam and cassava. We even have cassava chips that most countries don't have.
Actually, in Kenya we are becoming a cashless country, because everything is being digitalized, everywhere almost everywhere we use mobile money and etc💪🏼🇰🇪
How are you all liking it so far?
@@TheDemouchetsREACTit is the easiest way of transaction ever and very enjoyable
@@TheDemouchetsREACT It's a lifestyle. Mpesa was launched in 2007 and even with the simplest phone you can use mpesa. It is used in villages .I can sent money to my mother in the village using mpesa.
@@TheDemouchetsREACT It's awesome..
Paying your bills without touching cash for a month..
We do have lots of yam,he didn't do his reserch well i can say that...but we rarely cook it the same way as the wests do,but it is there.
The bit about Kenya NOT having Yams or Cassava Respectively was in Correct.....
Cassava and Yams and many offer Legumes formed the Stable Foods of Old East Africa....but its tedious in Modern Food Preparation..
If you are fond in traditional Foods of Old found in the Rural settings you definitely will encounter Cassava and Yams...
If you don't believe me....ask that Nigerian to visit the nearest outdoor Vegetable Market for Evaluation even in Nairobi.
Welcome to Kenya 🇰🇪🇰🇪🇰🇪
Mark Zuckerberg was in Kenya to learn about Mpesa
If some one tells you that Kenyans do not know cassava and yams, then me as a Kenyan will ask which Kenya did He visit.
Kenya was the first country in the world to use mobile banking even the west had to come and learn how it works
And they call it many names and DO NOT give credit to Kenya. If you Google Mpesa they've credited some white dude, annoying 😡😡
@@WandiaNjamathey never give credit they just steal our ideas all the time
You can sometimes experience snowfall in the central part of Kenya
I am Kenyan. I am a witness to that. I can't even remember the last day I used cash.
I hate carrying cash around. Thank God for M-pesa.
People should actually be made aware that the Mpesa form of payment was the first in the world, not just in Africa. Other countries had to come to Kenya to learn about it. The owner of Facebook even tried to buy the company, but the government refused. A lot of people don't have this info.
Mpesa is only in kenya shillings its not cross currencies but hear in kenya we never use cash i have never torched a note in like a year
Come to uganda we have all ...cassava(we also have cassava prepared in flour ,yams ,millet flour ,ugali.Matooke .those we prepare them differently
I am Kenyan living in the United States. The driving thing is real. Took me here sometime to drive here
In Uganda we also use cash but we also use mobile money payment at shops, bars and also bank cards at fuel stations and bars.. anything but more transport unless using Uber and safe boda.....in general you can use both
Cassava is consumed in western and coastal region of Kenya brother.
And the mountain. Cassava, yams, sweet potato, arrow root are everywhere in the mountain region.
This guy needs to spend more time in Kenya. We eat Muhogo / Casava
Me laughing after hearing we don't know cassava and yam, yet I'm having cassava for breakfast😂😂😂. Yam is roasted in parts of Nairobi and outside as a street food. I find it very tough to chew so i rarely buy. Cassava is a staple food in some communities. Nairobi is cold coz we are in winter... good job though and welcome 😂😂😂
His just misinformed
How come it's never a culture shock when people visit the UK, Japan, India, Singapore, Pakistan, South Africa, Jamaica and drive on the left side/right hand drive vehicles?
Ghana originally drove on the left too before they changed to the right side.
It IS a culture shock.
Driving on the left side is an advantage to kenya we have access to the japanese domestic market and alot of cheap used cars from japan who also drive on the left
We have yams and cassava the difference is this foods are prepared mostly at home not in hotels, pepper we mostly export
We have yams and cassava... You need new friends who know the corners
There are lots of Cassava in kenya especilly the western part . Lots of . In plenty. Used for Ugali, porridge and even the edibles ones.
We do know cassava and yam, locally known as "muhogo" and 'nduma' respectively.
ndũma is arrowroot,
yam is gĩkwa in my language
In SouthWestern Uganda,Rukiga language cassava is locally caller Cassava
@@linusmaingi3193 Nigerians call nduma River yam, it's also a type of yam
@@lindsieodhiambo4669 oh wow, language diversity
They call nduma it cocoa yam but yam is gikwa
In eastern Kenya particularly meru where I come from we have yam and cassava but rarely eat it. Most of Kenyans don’t know them
Its the cold season but ends by mid August.
In kenya we keep left. It was difficult for me to remember to always keep right when I moved here in Texas
In western part of Kenya we grow both yams and cassava.
😂😂😂And we eat everything. People from western Kenya never died from food poison. Extremely on rare occasions 😂😂😂.
Food is even different than AA food in the us. You better bring your Lawry’s seasoning. Generally the local food does NOT have much seasoning. I still love being here but I ask for fresh jalapeños almost every where we go dining out.
Fam, you should already know this ‼️🤣
Our american brothers & sisters you welcome home
Its not cold everywhere 😂. He should visit the coast and see just how hot it is
We all use this transaction in east Africa
Please we do have cassava and yams just depends which province you visit in Kenya.
Kenya is developed
Try we are dying here in Texas, I miss my country Kenya
MPESA is the best! Use it every single day.
Nairobi has winter between may to September. It's abnormally cold but starting October to April it's hot
What winter? there is no winter at the Equator please
@@davludi2612 we even have some snow, check out snow in nyahururu and limuru kenya in July
Nairobi's altitude is higher than Denver USA. The Coastal parts are low lands much warmer
Yam and cassava is considered a poor man’s food in parts of Kenya because people only eat it during famine and periods of drought 😊😊
obviously not .. ngwashe and mianga sell out sana even all year
In western those r staples..
In Nyanza Cassava is a big thing. We mix it with corn and millet and make our ugali.
@@AtienoKweku-lf7fd True, and it’s great 👍. But it’s not like that in other parts of Kenya.
Yam and cassava is healthier than corn. Infact corn does not have any health benefit actually..
Wait until u know mpesa is global..n u connect with all ur bank account even when u are abroad....i send money in 5 seconds from abroad anytime anyday
This is a perfect example that Africa is not one country and by that we mean even the Blacks in Africa dont share exact cultures we may share sth but we can be very different in food, mannerisms general culture. Infact the Black is not monolith. Especially in Africa we can be so diverse. And different doesnt mean bad it means. Infact for AAs who want ti relocate please learn the different communities and find yiur belonging based on your values and temperament etc. I see all of them landing in Ghana and assuming they will assimilate because it is the motherland. Yes but Black and especially African is not monolith
He lied at the end about us not knowing cassava and yams 😂😂😂😂
😅😅😅😅😅😅we do havw cassava and yams ,we do grow them here n kenya ,it's just that we don't eat them alot .actually in Nairobi this are street foods ..
It seems you didnt visit many parts of kenya.....infact there is we even import pepper and we grow even cassavas and yams especially in western kenyan we cassavas and some parts of central kenya also grow yams
We roast or deep fry cassava and it with lemon n chilli.cassava is called mhogo
There’s yams and casava we just cook it different
I am surprised to hear him say there is no cassava here.. we have yams and cassava
As a Ugandan neighboring Kenya, there official language is Swahili, and they like ugali and kachmbali( cut tomatoes and onions)... I am to move there soon
We don’t eat peppers in kenya alot
In Kenya we have seasons. Before you travel confirm the season
i thought for a minute that you were in Kenya, I almost subscribed
Eh eh ati you almost subscribed??!!
👀👀 🤷🏾♂️🤷🏽♀️
Common subscribe this is a cool couple, they will get to Kenya soon, you can tell they would love to come
🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@njambizzy I like following those showing Kenya to the world while visiting. i will subscribe when they come to Kenya
It's not like we don't know yams and cassava we know them but they are in different regions especially in the southern part of Kenya and little bit in central and riftvalley.
the last one i disagree there is alot of yam and cassava in kenya .. alot of people eat those
There's cassava yams in coastal parts of but you won't find these products in the city
They are all over Nairobi, I buy them.
We have yams but we call them arrow roots , we also have cassava .
Am from Kenya 🇰🇪 having been in the US for a min. I don’t do nothing but Uber when in Kenya!
Kenyans know what yams and cassava. We use them differently. In rural areas
In Kenya Pickpocket went out of business. No one carry's cash any more 😢
Right now we have confirm😂😂😂.
Why the cry emoji? Are you a pick pocket who's lost business? 😅😂
@@WandiaNjama retired lol
@@uncledadhere2080 🤣🤣🤣
Uganda does mobile money too..
Yes kenya we dont walk with money alot as long as you got phone you have money
Cassava and yam is there
Really,he literally said we don't know yams and cassava 😂😂, we do bruh about pepper we grow it in our farms but use it rarely
Thank you. Finally someone said it. That is what I was about to say. Pepper you can grow in your small backyard if you wanted to. Literary can be grown anywhere but we don't use it alot. And when we do we prefer to cut them and put them separately in a meal because not everyone eats pepper. Mostly prepared raw as a salad or cooked in meals but rarely. And yes cassava and yams when I was growing up my mom used to cook them because she and my dad loved them but not me. I hate yams or cassava. They just don't taste good to me. lol. So , yes we grow them but like you said I agree maybe in the coastal areas they eat them more. Maybe that guy should visit mombasa to experience the yams and cassava. :)
😂😂😂😂😂 Lol we have yams and cassava 😂😂😂
When I go home after few days I drive
I don’t remember the last time I used cash as a Nairobian even 20 years ago
Kenya my mother land country 🇰🇪🇰🇪World of Champions ⛹️♂️⛹️♀️⛹️♀️⛹️♂️❤You know what?? EQUATOR Passes through my father's Farm❤️ 😜
Casava is there, but mostly back in the villages.Kenyan casavah is not like West African casava.Yarm are also there, but in certain parts of kenya
12:03 He is smart, I know the strategy he used there👏👏
In Kenya we have yums and cassava but we dont use them much.
I think its because you were in Nairobi, if you want cassava you have to go to either African restaurants or go to my region in western Kenya and you will find it.
I grew up eating casava gari courtesy of my mother. Thats why am stronger and was born in Nairobi!
When are you guys going to visit our amezing Kenya
