I am not the biggest Trivium fan but I have mad respect for Matt. You can see that he’s a professional. I mean the crowd wasn’t a metalhead crowd but he managed to make them move.
The crowd was tired, the event lasted for the entire day.
I am sooo happy that he went for his old live screaming style for this performance, even though it probably hurt his vocal folds. He did it for us🤘
As long as he does it once and then rests his voice for the next day he’ll be perfectly fine. But if he did this on tour again he would definitely kill his voice again, probably permanently.
Are you referring to a different scream than the low volume ones he does on his live streams?
@@marc-etiennemercier6584 Yeah, in this video Matt is using his old scream technique that blew out his voice in 2014. He only does that on the albums now, and live or on streams he does the safe one.
@@The_JustJoshing exactly its not like doing wrong techniques every once in a while kills your voice otherwise all the people singing karaoke drunk would be voiceless lol its the constant repetition of doing it wrong daily for hours at a time. Trivium did lengthy tours in their early years thats constant screaming almost every day + all the partying after the gigs where Matt did not let his voice rest

You've never listened to Ibaraki right?
@@LordOfTheJizz The technique he is using on Ibaraki is the one he uses with Trivium live and on Twitch. It sounds good but it is nowhere as brutal as what he did there at Gamescon. And what's more we are talking about a live performance, not a studio recording.
I saw trivium in 06 he can do plenty

I hate to say it but he's never gonna do 100% of his old vocals live, at least not regularly. He says in an interview where he talks about his screaming technique; he goes all out when recording in studio, but when touring he has to use a slightly more tame technique live so it's more sustainable over a long period of time and he doesn't blow his voice out, and he's been doing that since 2017. This show is a one off occasion so he can probably go a bit crazier than normal, especially if it's just one song. But for an entire setlist night after night, even just one night of a full set he's gonna need to hold back a bit in order to do it constantly.
The good thing is that when you're there in the live setting it's hard to tell the difference

PS edit: Every metal show I've been too Trivium included * 2012 charlotte nc /motionlessinwhite/askingalexandra on the set the majority of the crowd is tipsy or high just trying to see the bands they love and have a good time. I know I wouldn't be happy if * any band * came and did a shit not even half ass job but true fans understand how hard and demanding the touring is and don't mind a bit of restraint in the name of sustainability. Stay healthy, keep releasing. Stay wreckless, get wrecked. ;)
@@hypershadow015 agree. matt heafy is not getting any younger and he’s been touring for most of his life so i don’t blame him for changing technique for live shows. also his screams are clearly not the same compared to when he was younger (god tier) although i still enjoy them especially on ITCOTD

But not recognizing the difference between the old and new vocals live is pure nonsense.
I've seen Trivium live very often, also with his old vocals and you can tell the difference from live.
His new technique is much weaker. The screams, as well as the clean vocals.
Matt had by far his best live singing during the In Waves period.
He was chaos himself.
I honestly feel like since Matt doesn't have his guitar, his vocals are so much more dominant, and he gets way more into it

Matt is also very approachable and easy going. Makes me proud to be a metalhead. I think they're looking at Matt to help produce some of the music for The Witcher tv series. Not a big fan of the show but Matt can definitely make bangers for that show.

Holy moly, even my throat hurts hearing this.
He can't do it constantly night after night or for a full set. This is one song so he's able to let loose a bit, he uses the full extent of his technique when recording in studio but he has to do a more tame and sustainable technique live in order to do it constantly
Matt is SUPER active online and even recently released his new black metal project Ibaraki (spelling?)
@@Feercholain his voice is deeper now. His screams dont sound as high pitched and tunnelly as before but it still is brutal for sure.

Oh yeah I thought so to and nice I saw them live in 2018 as well but yeah since he retrained his voice its been sounding better and better every year I haven’t heard them live in awhile
@@giantturd5157 because shogun in there baby and Matt’s screams on there were some of the best I’ve ever heard ever and his screams haven’t sounded the same live since he blew his voice this is the first time I’ve heard him scream without even a little rasp in his voice
@@giantturd5157 for real not to mention their live performance during that area lets be honest wasnt all that well yeah the record sounded brutal but just listen to their performance from london in 08, tone and sound were muggled Trivium have become a much better tighter live band today.

another example of very good song that was reordered in studio but can't be repeated in a live version.
Not necessarily, all songs were kinda "bad" at this show because the sound team absolutely fucked it up. Me as a new would say the mids are there but highs and lows are absolutely shitty. It sounds like some 200€ Bluetooth headphones I had 1 month ago tested them 2 days tried even changing the software but no chance to fixing it. Gamescom is definitely not the place you want to go for a metal concert obviously.

I was there live and what was just awesome!
I played a demo for this game and cannot wait till it comes out. It actually takes more skill than a normal FPS game so those that are musically inclined will definitely benefit in this game. The better the timing the more of the song you can hear!! Can't wait to play again and hear this song!! (If I did the first time, I don't remember)

I'd love a studio version
Being a Trivium fanboy and seeing them live several times over the past 20 years I know 100% that Matt decided to go full old school metal and just let it rip for this performance ( I.e. potentially straining and unsustainable for more than a few songs on any given night ) . He sounds amazing doing his Vox like this, and it shows how much dedication and pride he takes in anything he does ….. however these types of vocals are why many ( not all ) metal singers have a finite shelf life for their vocal style/sound unless they change their delivery. Examples of guys who never adopted safe techniques to prevent permanent damage : Chris Barnes, Chad Grey, Phil Anselmo, Burton Bell, Axl Rose, Chino Moreno.
Vs guys who adapted their vocal delivery so it is done safely ( however changes the way they will sound, especially live ) such as M Shadows, Matt Tuck, Heafy, Danny Worsnop, Oli Sykes, Caleb Shomo
