It's interesting that George R.R. Martin disliked the fact that people were pressing him to finish the last two books because they're afraid that he will die before he finishes them (and he was right it is kinda disrespectful, you care more for the work of a person than him), but we got to a point where that can actually happen. So now Martin has an additional pressure of not living up to the expectations and running out of time, the TV show being a freight train crash in real- time and at the end of the day, proving the asshole fans that they were right: George R. It's been 11 years since 'A Dance with Dragons', the 5th book, which was really just the second half plus a bit of the 4th book. He did release a book that was about the History of the Targaryens in 2018, called 'Fire & Blood', but that too ended incomplete. Really is frustrating
Man coming back to this....I’m so happy I have a series like AOT that has a faithful adaptation that’s just so great in its foreshadowing, character development, etc, and with a source material that’s also great and WILL finish.
World Trigger does the "let them react and grow" character writing thing and it's wonderful. You can never EXACTLY predict what will happen, but everything everyone does makes sense. It's not necessarily always the best method, but it can really work. Personally, I like to work with a combination of the two.
It's weird seeing this outrage as a person who bounced after season 4. The showrunner's adaptation choices were really spotty before they were completely free from the books. I wanna say I saw the writing on wall, but damn I didn't expect them to diarrhea bomb the futon so hard. I feel like a dodged a outrage bullet.
Game of thrones is based on a very good series of books from the 80s (think lord of the rings level, with violence, sex and witty dialogue). Perfect HBO material. Up until season 6, the show only had to follow the books to use as script, there were a few disappointing changes but it was great all around besides that. Come season 7 and 8, theres no books to use as material since GRR Martin writes very slowly and isnt done with them. Characters from the tv show become stupid, change personality, teleport, plot holes, starbuck coffee cups, and the story just jumps all over the place. And Its a sad mess. Dan Weiss and David Benioff - the show runners (writers, producers, etc..), are getting major blame for it, justly or unjustly im not sure. A case of 'too big to fail' tbh, ruining a good thing. Atleast its a good thing its the last season.
Okay so you know how each episode of Always Sunny starts with the gang talking about something, then the title of the episode pops up and it's the exact opposite of what they said they believe/want to do? Game of Thrones is that, except the "pre-title scene" is 68 hours long and it's not intended to be funny, but still is.
I can't get over HBO offering them a 10 episode final season and D&D saying no. Like, it's kind of clear here that they were bored of the show and want to move on to doing something different, which is fine. Just hand over running the show to someone who does still care in that case, don't burn it to the ground on your way out.

It's been 2 fuckin years and those fuckin books STILL AREN'T OUT
It's been 11 years since 'A Dance with Dragons', the 5th book, which was really just the second half plus a bit of the 4th book. He did release a book that was about the History of the Targaryens in 2018, called 'Fire & Blood', but that too ended incomplete. Really is frustrating
you know what they say, khaleesi come khaleesi go

Awesome, in-depth spoiler free discussion!
Man coming back to this....I’m so happy I have a series like AOT that has a faithful adaptation that’s just so great in its foreshadowing, character development, etc, and with a source material that’s also great and WILL finish.
Can't wait for Game of Thrones: Brotherhood.

Pat's "I'm gonna push it" KILLED ME
I like the term 'gigabotch'
"a cosmic warning to not give a fuck" is great life advice tbh
World Trigger does the "let them react and grow" character writing thing and it's wonderful. You can never EXACTLY predict what will happen, but everything everyone does makes sense. It's not necessarily always the best method, but it can really work. Personally, I like to work with a combination of the two.
"I am a shadow, the true self." - GoT writing staff.
21:15 - Actor who leaked/stated that the books were on hold until the TV series was done was Barristan Selmy's actor Ian McElhinney.
The GoT cast can say now there were some "wipeouts" this season.
It's weird seeing this outrage as a person who bounced after season 4. The showrunner's adaptation choices were really spotty before they were completely free from the books. I wanna say I saw the writing on wall, but damn I didn't expect them to diarrhea bomb the futon so hard. I feel like a dodged a outrage bullet.
can a kind soul give me the ultra TLDR for someone who has never seen the show
Game of thrones is based on a very good series of books from the 80s (think lord of the rings level, with violence, sex and witty dialogue).

In danerys head: ‘ah you did good lassie, now you know what you have to do...burn the city down... burn them all!’
Whoops, accidentally named my kid after Hitler
@JosieCat If the kids were German, it's fine because Adolf is a super common German name. It's basically the German equivalent of naming your kid Adam
Vagabond!!! You GoT got!
@@theoverlordofcats5511 can't ruin something if it never ends
Should have read the manga,
Then you would have known why that may not have been the best idea
I’m shocked that’s not a podcast title.
GoT got got
I can't get over HBO offering them a 10 episode final season and D&D saying no. Like, it's kind of clear here that they were bored of the show and want to move on to doing something different, which is fine. Just hand over running the show to someone who does still care in that case, don't burn it to the ground on your way out.
This is why I decided on another name if I ever have a kid: Luke. Not everyone's gonna be like 'Haha Luke Skywalker' and all.
They mentioned that deal on the podcast once. You gotta have a plan B to fall back when you need to explain your choice to other people. "I named my son Joseph after my favorite JoJo, but I tell people it's from the Bible." Ain't nobody backing down from this one.
This is the most "clip" clip from this show
I wonder what those people think about it now that GoT has pretty much dissapeared from the collective consciousness
Two years later and it's even further gone. HotD is barely a ripple.
do we know what the secret text was at 52:00
hot damn this podcast is a gold mine for catchy phrases.
I have only seen the first episode of GoT and I gotta say, this was a pretty enjoyable conversation. Also really feel like I saved myself a lot of time.
My uncle literally just had a kid who he named Khaleesi so this is super weird as a non game of thrones fan
honestly, I'm just glad it's getting a final season and not going on infinite hiatus (cough cough berserk)
Woolie's reaction to Pat's text message makes me think he sent him spoilers from the leaks of the last episode. (Specifically who sits on the iron throne)
But Pat is the lesser GoT fan. He also said it was unrelated to the discussion. The leading theory is that it’s ProJared’s dick pic.
FOGSHIE It was confirmed that.

Well to be fair the mountain was sadistic unless we're gonna forget how his brother got his leathery face.
So, Game of Thrones Homestucked then.
pretty much
I can't wait for the dvd commentary for this season
Twitter makes me want to witness the dumpster fire, but Woolie reminds me that I don’t know what I’m messin’ with.
Still never finished watching a single episode of it. Was waiting for the series to end before going in. Always felt like something I should have a viewing guide for, like Star Trek TNG. I'm proud of my decision I made all those years ago, now.
You're missing out. The ending didn't ruin the journey. Watch the series.
7:00 This far in, and still no idea what this is other than it's something to do with Game of Thrones.
That breaking point analogy reminds me of how a lot of WF players go from ''This is fine'' to ''Alright...''
48:30 why the FUCK would you name a kid Anakin after the original trilogy. you'd sooner find a kid named DARTH FUCKING VADER after the OT than Anakin.
Woolie, your constant references to scat are ruining the Sloppy Joe's currently in my hands.
Id be down with GoT:Brotherhood. Hopefully itll be after season 4 of the original but with a proper Dorne plot.
