@@FloLum I played cello from 4th through 8th grade (then switched to baritone horn so I could march in the HS band 🙂). Eventually, I got my degree in classical music as a piano player and still, as I approach 70, I play jazz piano with my compatriots.
Wow, did the dulcet tones of cello practice take me back! Go, Kids!
Well, one downfall for me was that I, too, didn't practice every day. Grrr. I took a tuba with me on a trailer camping trip and practiced in my trailer in a State Park campground. haha Good thing I did! That tuba was new to me and within a month I was playing it in a high-end amateur symphony.
My music education served me well for a career in computers, btw. Right out of college, the mainframe company I worked for had a "grow our own software engineer" program looking for students of philosophy (logic!), linguistics, or music. How's that for a twist?
Aside: your oh-so-full IP bowl worried me a little bit, but your care in releasing the pressure looks to have handled it perfectly. Good to see thumbs of ginger and not you being sliced up.
That soup-stew will be on my list for early in my training up with the new-to-me IP. Sure looks tasty!
      Cheers,
      ~~Kris

Good job on reminding us what we grew up on . My mom did medicinal bone broth using deer legs to give us energy and allow us to run and not get tired . Lots of symbolism in Chinese medicine. Nothing like seeing deer hoofs poking out if the top of the stockpot. As Chinese moms would say " it's good for your insides "

My mum also made a brothy stew. Lots of veggies, seasonings and seared beef, along with water and tenderness of time.No wine and maybe only 1-2 Tbsp flour. I was a full adult before I laid eyes on the gravy type of stew. I remember staring at it thinking it must be some fancy French dish. To this day I prefer either a slightly thicker broth type orrr thinner gravy type. But the beef must not need chewing! Love your videos, Patricia from New Hampshire 👵🏻🤗

Yes, whole mashed ginger is a good no, wait... a great (Hawaiian style?) flavorsome addition and even some round cabbage. Yum, served atop hot, rice. Ono as side dish with poi also. Childhood faves bok choy w/ground hamburger over rice AND Chow Fun from long-gone Tin-Tin on Maunakea St. Also loved Gau Gee Fun Tong from McCully Chop Suey. File under: "Good stuff we have lost!" My mom used to make something similar, when I was a kid, in an old fashion pressure cooker (scary). One day, as I was about to eat what I thought was a potato, I asked her what type potato was in the stew. She said it was a new kind and try it. I took one bite and spit it out. She was laughing. I asked what it was and she said, "Daikon!" and continued laughing. I never ate anything potato or potato "like" in her stew. Thanks for the reminder Flo! :/ LoL

Oh yum. My grandma made a similar soup. But she was from Eastern Europe, so no ginger, but a bit a fresh herbs. The ginger sounds good though.
She did the same thing with chicken, since beef could be too expensive.
I like the using the Instant Pot. Because Grandma's cooked for 3 hours.
And Grandma had 2 pressure cookers. One about 6 qt and the big canning pressure cooker. But she never used them for soup.

Thanks, greatly appreciate the support! I love beef bourguignon too, which is, actually, still one of my favourite videos ruclips.net/video/XOlO4tgphdI/видео.html But I’m sure it’s nothing compared to your mom’s!

I totally understand.....grew up drinking lots of bone broth before it was an "in" thing. My mother swears that ginger is the ancient Chinese secret that makes everything great. This is something I would like to try....kinda like a "ching tong" and maybe add some noodles and make it a meal!

    • @FloLum

Yes... ginger is supposed to heal our insides. We have it with rice and it’s just so yummy!

I'm glad you seem to be coming to terms with your trepidation about the pressure release. You've got nothing to be self-conscious about and every reason to be careful.
Pressurized steam is *not* something you want to be casual about and I'd like to think your caution's convinced other new pressure cooker users to be cautious as well. The new generation of digital pressure cookers are so darned convenient, and above all *quiet*, that it's not hard to forget that they've got more than a bit of dangerous potential.
The trick with the wooden spoon is pretty good and reinforces the point about the harm possible from pressurized steam. I've used the trick but I'm going to pop for one of those silicone diverter gadgets that fits over the pressure release.

I make something like this with ox tails and cabbage. We call it cauldo in Spanish. Ox tails require quite of bit of cleaning during the process, so I may have to try doing this instead.

    • @FloLum

The Chinese also have an oxtail soup but I have never tried making it.

If you like butter and shop at Costco try Kerry gold Butter, an Irish butter with exceptional taste and quality. I like your recipe, a pleasent break from the heavy & hearty boeuf bourguignons!

just got my IP Ultra; controls are a tad different than yours, so I'll watch for that. Can't wait to try this beef soup/stew. I love your videos and your dry, Canadian humour. I think one would be nuts to try to use their Instant Pot without referring to Flo Lum's Channel. I am considering my first instant pot meal. I also liked your Costco traps video; truth!

I love just about everything you cook. Can you guys make a video where you talk about your favorite pressure cooker channels Here? And other resources elsewhere? If you do.
I like watching Pressure Luck. I've made some of his recipes and they are very good.
Also...a non pressure cooker channel which features more stovetop and oven cooking is Cam And Nina. That one is vegan and I love how fresh everything she cooks is.
    Happy Sunday to you both.

Hi flo......fantastic receipe, my mum's idea of a stew was like a cauldron on the stove ,we laughed my sister x I ,that stew pot was used for everything ...really!
Boiling clothes ,everything 😄but that taste .....she used to add bits x bobs to it over many hours and being Irish that flavour you can only guess.
You took me back ...great for my poorly brain to recall .
Thank you so much for this much enjoyed vlog......full marks for the musical accompement. ....them poor children locked behind the door ,forced to practice ! Lol🙈🙉🙊💝👍👏
