- I built the first ever table from recycled newspaper and epoxy. Big thanks to NorthOne for partnering with us on this video! Use my link to apply for NorthOne and create a business bank account: bit.ly/Jonnybuilds
I laminated hundreds of sheets of newspaper with epoxy to create the first ever carved newspaper and epoxy table using a vacuum bag. The base is made from welded steel and walnut to create a vintage industrial design with an acme screw for an adjustable height top. I hope you enjoy the build.

"What I need you to do is take this table, put it in your vehicle, take it home, and keep it forever because it's yours."
What a delivery.
That was cool. A newspaper table for a journalist must be something special.
Bet that table can tell a few stories.
😂😂😂😂😂
Good news! This wad a great build brother. Very unique!!!!
Old news
this is terrible i love it
😂
Book Covers, an unnecessary mandatory thing we had to do in school. We didnt do the funny pages for our covers, we used brown paper bags , then used sharpie markers to decorate them to how we liked them.
Yeah, I always got in trouble for doodling on my book covers.
Yes! The paper grocery bags that they don't have anymore!
The good news is I never get tired I'm watching you show me that we all make mistakes and we all get through. It's what trusting the process is all about. Thank you that's very inspiring. For a 71 year old who is just getting started in this
I was a print journalist. You took me down memory lane from reading newspapers as a kid to working in a newsroom. I remember the thrill of feeling the presses running from the basement. The best thrill was when my byline was on the front page lead. Fantastic table. Beautiful gift.
"Good news." "Kids, the Sunday paper is here."
Words remembered from my childhood from my lost but never forgotten father.
Shout out to all the fathers watching this on Father's day. Jonny Builds keeps me inspired to never stop those projects. Great build Jonny!
It was a "Good News" day for Ryan, awesome vibe of the old machinery feel.
Good News - This is my absolute favorite build of yours so far
EXTRA, EXTRA! - Good News! Johnny Builds can continue. Those legs are wicked. Great build!
Good News! Everyone! Today our great professor have finished this beautiful table! I totally love it!
I was born in 1974, and I remember the newspaper well. I grew up in Indianapolis, so the paper was big. I was always excited to read the comics as a kid. I actually used to help my best friend with her paper route in Jr. High. Good times. The table turned out amazingly. Great job!
Good news!
Cool table, one of the most unique I have ever seen. I'm 65 and have been a wood worker at home and metal worker as a profession. The craziest one was for a bikerout of chains and sprockets. It was all laid out flat with a wooden circle border. You could see through the epoxy and it was lit from underneath with multi color neon tubes. I wish cell phones had been around then. Hopefully the table is.
Cheers
Terry
Good News, Jonny Trusted the Process and made another awesome table!!!
My wife used to work in newspapers advertising. Not that long ago, she "retired" when our first was born 10 1/2 years ago. She had a superpower where she could name a paper and the parent company in every tiny town, and village in the country. She still has a weekend subscription to the NYT. It's a Sunday tradition, coffee, and the Sunday times. "Good News". The slow death of the physical paper seems to be pretty emotional for her.
The fact that you shared your unsafe actions is really great. Shows people that accidents do happen, and that everyone makes bad choices sometimes, and to be aware of us being complacent.
I love that you gave it to him. It's a beautiful table and surely a conversation piece.
Good news, as a native Oklahoman I found your channel and absolutely love it.
I ask for your prayers and healing thoughts as I continue to face health challenges. Thank you for your support.
I would like to add my husband and I. We had a log table, but it got broken too badly while moving from Colorado to Arkansas. I have also loved log furniture. This is the 1st time I have seen your video, and I love your chatting. We can pick it up because we have a trailer that will hold the table. Love your shop & love the work you are doing on the table.❤
Jonny you sly rascal! 🤣🤣🤣 Ryan wasn't expecting that! It's a great reminder to always be ready to give your art to the world so more great works can flow in and out! Awesome table.
I was a freshman in 96, I definitely know what you mean about the newspaper, brought back a lot of memories.
Good news! What an absolutely incredible project! I love this! The vintage industrial look is spot on. I also loved hearing you talk about growing up reading the newspaper. I was born in 1982, so I grew up in the same era. The funny pages were the best! It's been forever since I've thought about reading the newspaper or how big of a part of life newspapers were back then, and I appreciate the amazing memories that brought up for me. I grew up in small-ish town, and just about every week there was someone I knew featured in the local newspaper. I was even in it a few times myself. While the bigger newspapers around here still exist, the one that I grew up with is now defunct, and to me that's so sad. Times change, and "progress" happens, but there's something to be said for the simpler times. C'est la vie. Anyway, thank you for the nostalgia; what a trip!
Super nice you gave that to him and I know he will appreciate it even more when he sees your video! Very creative!
“Good News” I was happily surprised when you gave the table to the reporter. Very noble gesture. Really love your videos. Keep up with the great work!
love that i seen this before getting to that part and getting that surprise spoiled!!
@@Minecraftchick1313 I’m so sorry. It was a honest mistake. It wasn’t my intention to spoil that. I was touched by his gesture and I wanted to congratulate him. Once again, I’m so sorry!
Good News. As a newer woodworker I'm really learning a lot of things to do ,or not do, from you. Keep it up because I have a ways to go.
What a true artist! Gifting that table is what it’s all about! Thanks for being so inspirational.
I remember back when the first thing you did in the morning was read the paper. Good news or bad, that's where we saw it first. Set the tempo for the rest of the day.
Love the laminated table. I play with epoxy in my woodworking and it is so nice to see something other than a river table.
Good news. Thanks for sharing your project. Love the full transparency
I love this. I used to read the news paper going to school. And everytime i needed a science new, they never let me down. Those were my favorites, with the comics ones. This is a beautiful table.❤
The “GOOD NEWS” is that you’re not alone. I too grew up on reading the Sunday paper with the family. I had to wait till my dad was finished reading the paper. Sometimes I would take the section that he’d already read. I liked to start with the sports section as a youngster that had the most pertinent information for a young lad. The worst was the opinion section, blah 🤮. As for your content, it’s definitely not blah. That’s a very creative table top. Keep up the good work.
Nicely Done all the way Around Jonny! Love that you gifted it to Ryan 😇
Good News - my dad worked in the newspaper industry (sport section) for 50ish years across England and later in Scotland (UK) for the Mirror Group (Manchester, London, later Glasgow w/ Daily Record). I also, briefly, worked at the same paper as him (copy section) whilst I was in high school. This build took me down memory lane, making copy papers for the editors by stapling or gluing them into the copy base - similar to how you epoxy them together actually! Also, good on you for persevering through the struggles and trusting the process and yourself to get it right eventually!! Definitely worth the effort!! Also, glass top was by far the best decision.
edit: and I'm super jealous of Ryan!
Good News that you continued to finish the table as I could not stop watching. Thank you for the awesome work. I wish we had so many options in South Africa to be able to create works of art.
I loved the Sunday funnies & the crossword puzzle. Also...I love the table. Beautiful!
Good news!! You took me back to my childhood and the “war” for the funny papers! 😂. Thank you!!
Good News, I watched all the way through. I am an elementary school teacher. I love collecting hobbies. I show a video each day to my kiddos. I hope that by doing so, my kids will be exposed to massive amounts of realistic art possibilities. My little ditty, Is sell crafts, not crack!
Good news, Jonny! i have a sewing project that i'm almost completely learning everything on, and winging it has been good to me so far!
it's always "Good News" when you figure out how to carry on after all the challenges that came up. Great project in the end. Good job Jonny!
“GOOD NEWS” like this a lot… liked your description of the sharing of the Sunday paper… remember this as well.
Thanks for sharing the build. Its nice to see that the pro's mess up as well. The key is to trust the process and not give up. Knowing when to walk away is probably another life skill to add to the toolbox. I love how the base turned out.
Good News. Beautiful Table. Gives me the idea to use my grown children's old school work in some sort of crafty keepsake. Thank-you.
Good News! Man I really like the base of this table... and I am so with you with what newspapers used to be to us.
"Good News"
I'm disabled so it's not safe for me to use tools, especially power tools. So thank you for letting me live my woodworking, and metalworking, dreams through you (and other great makers).
Thank you from West Sussex, UK.
I'm so glad about the Good News!
Thank you for the Video. Sometimes things don't go well, but trusting the process and powering through, can get you anywhere!
Good news! I love the fusion of metal and wood! Excited to see more of that coming to the channel
Great journey to the end. Thanks for sharing the tips and frustrations along the way too.
Good News everyone, Johnny sending me something special!!
I love this table so much. Your paper tables are just super cool.
That's so freaking cool of you. You can see the gratefulness in guys eyes. I seriously wanna cry. Bro your a good hearted human bean see inspiring every day
Good News!
Absolutely LOVE this table! So cool!
I really enjoyed watching you create the table. "Good News" you made it through it and it looks great.
Good news, I really like this one. It brings me back to reading the paper everyday and like you the Sunday paper was the best part of the day!
I used sit next to my dad in the mornings ray the funny pages as he read the sports. Thank you for bringing back those good news memories
Good news… watching you fling pieces across the shop without meaning to seems like something I am very capable of doing. I love your modify on the go. The machinist vibe on the legs and screw is great. I am sure that Ryan will charish the table for a very long time. Thank you for sharing!
#goodnews
Love the table and thanks for the memorable road trip. I remember the 90's Sunday paper family fights, lol.
Good News you got it on the 4th try... man I'm glad I'm not the only one that makes mistakes or does unsafe things every so often and then thinks "that was not the way to do that" and then tries doing it right. I can appreciate it not being all perfect in process and outcome because it shows you are a real person working in a real shop. I also commend the camera man for just letting it happen because if he had said "you sure you want to do it that way" I know you'd sat that or mention it on camera also. So thank you for the transparency!!
Good news. I really dig the base a lot. I like the vintage industrial Steampunk-esque vibe!
I love that you gave him the table. Good News!
wow, this is such good news! beautiful work, as always. I'm so glad Ryan got it, that was my hope!
Good news that you got it complete - really admire the perseverance!
Beautiful table. I’m really glad you gave it to him. Not many people have a work of art that represents such a big part of their life and hard work.
Good News!! Reading the news paper was also something I enjoyed in the 90s in high school, enjoyed the section announcing anniversaries and all the stocks and their statuses
This project screams the adage: "Try fail, try fail, try fail, try succeed". I was actually surprised to see a vacuum set up, so many makers do mold pours and use pressure pots or open air not realizing the simple power of a vacuum set up. Every maker that plays with resins should learn about these set ups. They aren't cheap, per se, but are something that can be built over time piece by piece.
I hope you didn't throw the failure out. That cross section looks like a wood grain, more so than the artificial laminates they sell for flooring and cabinets. Might be usable for a project like that.
Good News! great vid, lov teh workmanship on the table.
Good News!
That came out to be a really cool table. I love it!
Good news! Love watching you continue to learn and grow your skills with these unique builds. Keep up the great work!
Good news!!! Love the table!! Always good to see that professional woodworker succumb to disasters and still able to rectify the problem!!! Love it!!
This.
Loving the table. Having had the oak split 3 times at the weekend when I did final assembly on new shelves for my wife, I feel your pain with the walnut breaking.
What a great end twist! Great idea man. It looks great and you can tell he really appreciates the care and passion you put into it.
Good News! Really a beautiful design, The base is awsome and the newspaper pattern is one of a kind. Well done!
Good news. Very cool! I love that you show the process and, yes, trust it.
Good News!! How cool would it be if you could get a few extra copies of the paper with your story and lay that page as the bottom layer of any future newspaper builds you might have. The bottom of those pieces will have a secret story to tell.
This is yet another awesome video. I love every time you do make a mistake because it gives me “pause” on my own projects that it’s “okay”. Spot on, on the paper and nostalgia. We used to deliver papers as a family for a couple of years that paid for a trip to Disney World and the Sunday delivery was MASSIVE but I still loved coming home when I was 10 to read the paper after making the morning route. Great video!
Good news. Table looks great. Love the industrial look.
Good news! Love the persistence and attention to detail!
Good News! I am glad that the leg of the table cooperated. Looks great! 🤗😁💕👋
"Good News" thanks for the nostalgia reminder about the book covers. Haven't thought about that stuff in a long time😅
Good News. Looks good, glad you kept the textured top.
Good News ! Way to persevere throughout all of the failures! Thats what truly separates a woodworker with a great woodworker. Just trust the process!
"GOOD NEWS" That is an amazing table. Honestly the base and legs are my favorite part of it.
Very Cool, can't wait till my hubby retires and we can start building with a CNC & welding.
Love the look the table the legs it all just works together. Good news 📰
Good News: THAT TABLE CAME OUT FANTASTIC!!! I especially love how that pattern you cut out created such reflections in the epoxy that contrasts with the dull color of the newspaper and the hundreds of layers of lines!
The stand was great too! (but I personally don't think it was meant for that table top.. but it still went well)
AMAZING WORK AS ALWAYS!
23:36 hearing you talk about newspaper reminded me of my paper route. Sundays were the worst because they were so heavy! As far as book covers we used the paper grocery bags.
Good news, your videos never disappoint me. I love that you captured the wood grain effect you wanted to show in the newspaper, it seriously turned out awesome!!
“Good News”. What I loved growing up was the paper for Thanksgiving. All us kids would pass around the ads to figure out what we wanted for Christmas
GOOD NEWS. I'm glad you kept going and finished it!!!! It looks amazing!! And thank you for showing all the mess-ups. It shows us you only human and things can happen. Just keep going!!!!
I remember when the paper would come and I was home alone, now that was “good news”, all the sections were mine.
P.S. Happy first Father’s Day Jonny!
Good news, it is awesome. What I like most in this case is your work on the legs. I see so many makers do the top and then phone in some horrible base for it turning their awesome creation into something lack luster. And the metal and wood combo is the "surf and turf" of the wood working world. Really creative, really daunting. Nice job. Scott from Japan
Good news!! Great build! Love the crazy cool ideas you have!
"Good News" the 4th time was a charm and the base got built. This table is mesmerizing.
“Good News” that table is great! Super creative.
Good news!! I love your videos and perseverance. You make beautiful artwork.
Absolutely stunning work, Jonny 🙌
Well Jonny I'm one of your "older" subscribers who remembers using brown grocery store bags and funny papers as book covers! And its always Good News when one of your videos comes out. Also a fellow cabinet maker as well.
It was amazing, just the shear "Out of the Box Thinking" to go beyond the limits, truly inspiring...."Good News"
GOOD NEWS!
Table top turned out better than I thought it would and the legs really tie it all together nicely! Fantastic job!
Good news to see that you didn't quit woodworking. I always enjoy your videos. The table turned out great! Also, happy to see that you gave it to Ryan.
"Good News" m'man - piece turned out pretty slick. Good reminder to 'Trust the process' haha
Really loved seeing the highs and lows of your process. It's good news you finished with something you liked. ;)
