Triangle in square is a favorite block. I like Deb Tucker's V Block or Tri recs for making with far less waste.

I agree that there is less waste using the Tri-Rec’s tool or the creative grids 2 peaks in 1 ruler. However on this quilt, I wanted those floating star points so we didn’t loose the tips of the stars if not sewn accurately.
This is just one of many different techniques to achieve the desired block.
