Also, MAJOR SHOUTOUT TO YALL FOR WATCHING OUR CULT CLASSICS AND TAKING THEM SERIOUSLY! THESE ARE MOVIES OUR COMMUNITY HOLDS IN HIGH REGARD SENTIMENTALLY AND PROFESSIONALLY! Thanks for giving them a chance!!🥰🥰🥰
Hey, it's ok to say it. Your new BLACK audience. hahaha It's all good. You're watching our films, and you're giving them the chance most youtubers don't. I'm serious, most youtubers who are not black won't watch the movies you are watching. And it's a shame. So thank you for watching these amazing films(not the Tyler Perry ones) and giving good insight to them. Most people think all of the black films are just low budget with no real purpose. Not knowing we actually have different genres: Hood dramas, hood comendies, biopics, struggle movies (slavery, etc.) And movies like this... the good ones that people should be doing more of. This, The Best Man, The Wood, and a few othrs were just a taste of what we could do in Hollywood given the chance, and I'm glad dudes like you are seeing their worth. Keep it up.
Hahahaha. I kept it open because I have also seen some folks show up who are of other backgrounds. My working assumption is we’re enjoying these movies, so presumably there’s more people like us who might turn up just for these reactions. But you’re right as far as the majority. 😊
Thank you for saying not the Tyler Perry ones! 😂 We all love Why Did I Get Married I & II, but some of us are not huge fans of the others. Either way, grateful for this channel and our favorite duo. Looking forward to watching all the classics to come. ❤
Agreed. I appreciate your channel and the channel Bad Medicine for watching, reacting and giving thoughtful insight whether you like it or not. That's all we ask. I appreciate other cultures who watch the things I grew up with just like I watch other cultures films. Certain channels who I won't name go into this experience with a notion of it being a step and fetch it caricature of black lives so they mock it while watching it. Or they bring their "token" black friend to watch it so they can feel comfortable with joking through it because they heard critics who bash some things and they feel justified in their mockery of what they're reacting to. Hell, some channels won't even watch a trailer reaction for black films unless it's a marvel , DC or Denzel one Just saying thank you for these reactions.
Fun fact:: Sanaa Lathan had to learn basketball for this role. The director, Gina Prince-Bythewood almost didn't cast her. Another great movie with Sanaa is "Something New" - you all would love it.
GUYS.... You totally missed the fact that the guy she walks into the party with, was the "Bus Driver" in Madea's Family Reunion. His name is Boris Kodjoe. 😀
What I enjoy about your reactions are that they have an element of thought and care in the story. I like you two together. I still find Love and Basketball to be a very toxic love story. B/c wtf! She had curfew! And then they made her apologize for it years later??? NO! He should have walked with her to her damn room if he wanted to keep talking.
As somebody who dated a college athlete he made my scalp itch with that bs because when it was him she respected it and took it on the chin. It’s like I get you just found out that info about your dad but it’s not all about you sir and, she worked her ass off to get a spot and he wanted her to just ignore curfew?
Yes!! It always irked my spirit that he was so non understanding. He knows he wouldn’t have missed curfew for her if the tables were turned, and she wouldn’t have asked him too. I hate that women always are expected to give you their dreams “for love”
I’m surprised you guys didn’t notice by now that Regina Hall, Monica Calhoun, and Sanaa were all in this movie together along with the Best Man movies and Alfre Woodard has played Sanaa’s mom in a few movies, including The Family that Preys and Something New. Also, Sanaa and Boris Kodjoe have been in this movie together and also Brown Sugar.
Fun fact: This is the second time Alfre Woodard played the mom of Sanaa Lathan's character. (Remember "The Family That Preys"? 😀) Check out the movie "Something New" for a third time she did it!
i love howJaby instantly fell in love with this movie like we all did. this was me in high school. instantly added to my favorite movie list. My actuall favourite movie though is "Brown sugar". i watch it atleast 4 times a year. it also has Sanaa in it and Taye Diggs ( they already played a couple in the best man) . ❤❤
Fun fact the scar on her face was originally supposed to be a tooth but Sanaa already had that scar on her face so Gina changed it in the script. And in the OG script Monica was the one getting married and Q broke it up but Gina felt something was missing her husband brought out Monica had been fighting all movie so she changed the ending to where Monica fights in the basketball game. Also the WNBA did exist when Gina wrote the script.
Yes! She is actually using the real WNBA Sparks team with Lisa Leslie in the movie. I thought that was awesome at the time because the league was new. 😂
Yesss thank you for giving a sister like Regina Hall her flowers. She’s amazing. She always been underrated when she has such good range. She will always be Brenda to me though. I watched scary movie at 8 years old (my parents were way too lax lol) so many times that I can’t watch movies like scream without thinking about it 😂
I've watched this movie a billion times lol to just realize that at the beginning when he said that he was going to go pro and she would be his cheerleader, she ended up going pro and he (and their kid) became her cheerleader. Also "he's....stable" took me out 😂
1:04:27 Her name is pronounced "suh-NAH LAYTH-en". Watching your movie reactions is really making me appreciate how amazing of an actress Sanaa is. I didn't recognize her range before. She really is a treasure.

1. Harlem Nights -Eddie Murphy 2. Bait-Jamie Foxx 3. American Gangster Denzel Washington 4. Four Brothers- Mark walberg 5. Ransom- Mel Gibson 6. Kiss the Girls- Morgan Freeman 7. Money Talks- Chris Tucker 8. Fallen-Denzel Washington 9. nothing to Lose -Martin Lawrence 10.The Wood -Taye Diggs ,Omar Epps ,Sanaa Lathan
This movie is what inspired me to play basketball as a little girl. Me and my Dad's favorite player was Magic Johnson and I wore the number 32 all the way through the end of my college career. So happy you guys enjoyed my all time favorite movie.
The fun part of the movie is it came out a few years after the debut of the WNBA so we know as an audience that there will eventually be a women’s league but Monica is navigating her career without that option. Which is why she insists she will play in the NBA
I absolutely loved this reaction! Soul Food The Wood Boomerang The Temptations The Jackson Family biopic. The Five Heartbeats Side note: Sanaa Lathan in a recent interview said the ending scene of her in the WNBA was their first ever game as the WNBA in real life.
LOVE AND BASKETBALL 🏀 is my favourite movie and everytime I watch it, I get the same feeling I get when I first watched it in 2005. So much emotion. Thank you for the reaction
If you guys like young Omar Epps, you’ve got to watch Juice. He did that movie prior to The Program and Major League II. You’ll also come away impressed by how great Tupac is as an actor
Sanaa was in "The Family That Preys" if you didn't recognize her. She is a LEGEND! Please watch "What's Love Got TO Do With It" and "Meet The Browns," where Angela Basset stars. She deserved an Oscar for the first movie. This has become my favorite reaction channel to date!
I love the soundtrack to this movie so much. They picked perfect songs for the scenes, especially "Fool of Me" when they're playing each other at the end. ETA: the song during the love making scene is Maxwell's version of Kate Bush's "This Woman's Work". He first did it during his "MTV Unplugged" performance (back when they still played music, LOL). He did an AMAZING job with it.
To really drive home this movie’s impact, Sanaa Lathan went to a WNBA game last season and when they showed her on the Jumbotron, everyone went crazy, it was like she was the Queen. It’s because a lot of girls cite this movie as why they wanted to be a hooper and a lot of the girls in the league grew up and remember this as their first motivation
Sanaa Lathan said she didn't know anything about basketball or played until she auditioned for this movie. Basically she had to learn how to play basketball in order to do this movie
That's crazy. It's wild how often something like that comes up. I think Carrie Anne Moss had to learn to ride motorcycles for The Matrix, particularly The Matrix Reloaded. Same with Michelle Yeoh for Police Story III: Supercop. Although this (Love & Basketball) is a bigger deal as it's so central to the film.
Jabby the more and more you watch Black Produced films the more you will see that Black and Asian family households are very similar. There's a reason why our cultures tend to get along so well, we have a lot in common.
Did you notice the transition to The WNBA, She was Now playing for The Los Angeles Sparks. The sequence of time was flawless when it came to the basketball chapters. One of my favorite Movies 🍿
It's Beautiful to see you both have this appreciation for these Black films and actors that I've loved for over 30 years. Actors like Sanaa Lathan and Omar Epps have always been top tier actors in the industry but they never got the high profile roles in mainstream media. Love & Basketball is one of my favorite all time films along with The Best Man and Love Jones. Not only Black excellence but just good films. Please check out Love Jones in the future.
Per celebrities like Sanaa Lathan who are so talented but don't get recognized for their craft, we call them "Black Famous" lol like to every Black family they are a household name and would be recognized immediately but they can largely exist in the rest of the world without anyone else ever knowing who they are - see also former Black famous celebs like: Frankie Beverly, Sheryl Lee Ralph, and even Keke Palmer!
I love this commentary so much. In recent years, this movie has been called 'overrated' and talked down on (mainly for the ending). To see you two appreciate the subtlety and the elements of storytelling has confirmed to me just how great this film is. It's not the perfect love story, sure - but that is what makes it sooo memorable to me. Sidenote: Her name is pronounced SA-NAH LAY-THEN, I just learned this last year lol
Beyond the Lights is from the same director as this film, Gina Prince-Bythewood, she wrote and directed it. Another good black love story with a twist. You guys should def check it out!! Fun fact: Love & Basketball was Gina's director debut she is SO talented.
Please do Brown Sugar next Edit: you guys are like cookies and milk, peanut butter and jelly, mustard and ketchup. You guys are a great reactor couple. Plus yall didn’t recognize Tyra?!??!!?
Another classic. Sanaa is go good in this movie and the relationship with the mom is so good. Gina Prince-Bythewood is a very talented director. Basketball is really a background vehicle to take us through these people’s life. It’s so interesting to see how female basketball has progressed because female players often had to go over seas to get noticed and paid fairly.
Highly recommend Girl's Trip, one of my favorite comedies. Also incredibly rewatchable. Partially a Set it Off reunion with the addition of Regina Hall and Tiffany Haddish
OHMYGOD GUYS!!! I AM SO HAPPY YOU TWO REACTED TO THIS FILM. I rewatch it all the time and now to share it with my favorite movie reviews duo is legit one of my dreams come true 💕💕 thank you!!
1:19:13 Maxwell’s This Womans Work is this song that was playing during the love scene. It had came out years ago, but this movie brought it back popular and it went to number one on the charts again.
AGREED. I was a huge fan of his back in the day,I remember the film-In Too Deep-when I saw it on dvd and was blown away,LL Cool Day did an amazing job playing a gangster.
So glad yall watched this!!!!! Super glad you enjoyed it! Her name is pronounced Suh-Nah Lay-Thin btw… also, i thought when yall checked the IMDb, you would’ve analyzed the juxtaposition of Sanaa and Alfre in Love and Basketball as mother and daughter versus their mother and daughter dynamic in The Family That Preys… but either way phenomenal reaction!!!! Cant wait for yall to see Sanaa against Taye diggs AND Boris Kodjoe (Madeas Family Reunion/Love and Basketball) again in Brown Sugar… it’s one of my favorites!!! Truly a Black Cult Classic!
I LOVE this film. It's one of my favorites. I don't know if you recognize Regina Hall (the sister) but that's Brenda from the Scary Movie franchise. She is hilarious. Recommendations: The Wood, What's Love Got To Do With It, Why Do Fools Fall In Love, Boomerang

Agree. Bad Medicine is another youtube channel with a group of white guys who have reviewed these movies, there a a good watch.

Something new is really good

As a kid growing up playing basketball, ball was life and THIS was the movie for me. I thought all my relationships were gonna be like this haha
The Wood!
The guy that took Monica to the Spring dance is the bus driver in Madea Family Reunion
I was waiting for them to recognize him but I guess that stupid braid wig he had on in that TP movie threw them off lol😂
Please do Brown Sugar next
Edit: you guys are like cookies and milk, peanut butter and jelly, mustard and ketchup. You guys are a great reactor couple. Plus yall didn’t recognize Tyra?!??!!?
Yes! Best Man Holiday next and then the Best Man series on Peacock.
Jaby will cry seeing Alfre Woodward (her mom) in holiday heart! I also commend Brown Sugar
Highly recommend Girl's Trip, one of my favorite comedies. Also incredibly rewatchable. Partially a Set it Off reunion with the addition of Regina Hall and Tiffany Haddish
Me dying at the fact neither one recognised miss flight attendant is pre op Tyra Banks 😂😂😂😂
we did. we just didn't say her name out loud. that was the reason for my reaction.
@ Ah fair.
Y’all gotta gotta watch The Wood now. Another great Role from Omar Epps
Five heartbeats PLEASEEEEEEEits my favorite 😭😂
This movie in my top 5
@ yes!!! same for me! lol i can quote majority of the movie! lol
You mean "A family that preys" Jaby. Yeah, Tyler Perry movies get confusing when you binge them.
“The Wood” would be a great follow up to this film and the Why did I get married ? and The Best Man reactions
💯🙌🏾
For the list: Remember the Titans & The Great Debaters
Omar Epps was in some dope movies back then. Shout out to him.
He is soo good! They should watch Higher Learning next
I think he’s a damn good actor, always compelling on screen
AGREED. I was a huge fan of his back in the day,I remember the film-In Too Deep-when I saw it on dvd and was blown away,LL Cool Day did an amazing job playing a gangster.
“You would be pretty if you did something with your hair” is absolutely wild to say to your daughter.
Eves bayou
A thin line between love and hate
Boomerang
For the holiday season:
Best man holiday
Harlem nights
Drumline
