      please do not use FÜM products, no amount of essential oils should be inhaled or consumed on a daily basis. regardless of their “natural” chemicals, they can still do damage to the lungs and body - and you’re literally just paying for AIR. you could be out $1000 a year if you’re a heavy smoker/vaper looking to switch to them. please look for certified safe alternatives if you want to break your habits :^(

    Fun fact about 2K games: every year, they arbitrarily change the mechanic for shooting the basketball and tout it as some kind of revolutionary new gameplay feature. It's always worse and it always gets changed in the next game.

    • @sharpieonyourface
      @sharpieonyourface 2 years ago +91

      Note for the rest of comment: 2K is one of the greediest companies of all time, and the games they produce have serious issues that stem from mere incompetence or laziness from the executives who want more money with less devwork (labor) to increase profit margins.
      However, I think the reason these games have issues is a complex topic that isn't simply "they barely update the game" or "they change the shooting year after year".
      I'll admit I have 1000s of hours on every 2K game that comes out, I'm an avid basketball fan and it's one of the only games I can find the time to play with my friends since all of us from childhood live all over the world now. I think the time I've spent on the game gives me a much greater understanding of its issues than a person just picking up the series for the first time will have.
      One of the biggest problems is that because the game is on an annual release schedule, the devs are forced to spend the majority of their time working on creating new mechanics for the same reasons you already said: so they can be marketed as revolutionary. What this means is that many of the glitches from past games, are still in the game today. I've seen glitches that were in the LAST GENERATION of consoles still be in the game today, which is just atrocious.
      Another issue is its lack of accessibility and purposefully confusing storefronts and menus. For example in the game you can go to a store like Nike, but what the game fails to tell you is the only shoes you can wear in online modes are the ones in the "colorways" section. If you buy any of the "on court" shoes, you've essentially wasted your money because the only place you can wear them is offline NBA games.
      Then you have the lack of explanation for the myplayer builder, they have 30 or so attributes like 3pt shooting, passing, stealing, etc. but there are literally no descriptions at all on what each stat does game mechanic wise. For example maybe somebody thinks "If I upgrade my passing, maybe my guy will start throwing crazy flashy passes like LeBron or Luka Doncic". In reality, raising your passing makes your passes a few frames faster while still maintaining the same animations that you can equip called "pass style". The only way we as a community on the game know this is because a youtube channel called 2KLabs tests out all of these mechanics and stats. The game does not explain any of this to new players, which mean players mess up and create terrible builds and spend money on getting them upgraded, only to find out how terrible they are and have to make a new one, which again costs them $50-$75.
      There's so many issues with the game, but almost all of them boil down to corporate greed, while it's easy to point a finger at the devs and say the shooting mechanics changing is the issue, you have to understand that in the games industry devs are like slaves for the corporations they work for. I'm sure the devs of 2K think it's absolutely stupid that a character on the game costs $70, but people like Ronnie2K, the spokesperson for 2K, are posting videos in ferraris. They are the ones we need to be talking about as the problem. The game will not improve with people like that "running" the show.

      Resident Evil was the worst. It's fixed now since the RE4 remake, but before then every single title on steam was formatted completely differently. Some even included the Japanese title "Biohazard" for god knows why.
      My steam library looked something like this:
      RESIDENT EVIL
      Resident Evil 0
      Resident Evil 2 / Biohazard: RE2
      resident evil 4 / biohazard 4
      Resident Evil 5

      Blizzard is handling Overwatch just fine right now, I don't really get it. As a player since day 1 of Overwatch's initial launch, its honestly better than it ever was - it now has WAY more content, gets frequent updates and events.. and the game is not as slowpaced as "OW1", there's less stuns - and it's free, so I can easily drag friends to play without the game demanding $40 per person.
      What's the downgrade? "wahh its a f2p model with paid cosmetics just like TF2 and Fortnite and every other F2P before it"? kek

    • @aleksm_
      @aleksm_ 2 years ago +209

      @theSato the PvE was scratched off the table, which was the MAIN reason for ow2. everyone wanted that lore to be nurtured via campaigns. are you ignoring that on purpose? or is ist just because its not THAT important to YOU, you think that its not a big deal? they could have spared the "2" by any means and just start delivering 4 years ago ffs. they f**ked up beyond good and evil measures and just because its "better" than it was, it's still not where it's supposed to be. also plenty of people are torn (myself included). blizzard on a neutral note, somehow maneuvered ow into a situation, where no matter what they "fix" they break something else. double shield? lets delete one tank and break the tank play. long ttk? lets nrf healers healing abilities and make them dps with extra steps. and i dont care what you interpret into the next sentence but: if the most important thing upon announcing a new hero is its gender, you know the game cant be qualitatively good anymore. i dont care what gender any hero has. but fix the game and THEN make everyone gay. i'd be fine with that. its just deflection at this point

    In fact the "War of the 3 Kingdom" was effectively an expansion of the board game "BANG!". Many basic cards and some classic characters are straight up identical with some characters of "BANG!". But the game blowed up so it was made much bigger and introduced some varieties. Due to its earliest migration into digital board game in China, it became the leading digital card game there for many years. But the game just didn't evolve, and like many card games, relied on getting more complicated and more broken pay2win cards. The dead loop lead to jank

    • @Loogiii
      @Loogiii 6 months ago +1

      @Pwnners That is kinda the problem with digital games that have been brewing for years, and perhaps finally coming to a head though. If all you own is a license then they can take it away as a license merely acts as an access point to the actual product and isn't the product itself. There's increasing number of publishers that make the argument that you don't own the games you buy on any online platform.

    22:33 Iirc, Steam didn't even have a refund system back then, or at least not in the way it exists now. Steam's refund system was only a recent addition after Valve caved to legal demands. There were some exceptions where you could request a refund if a game was especially bad, but otherwise back then, if an EA game was abandoned or failed to live up to expectation, you were basically screwed.
    At least nowadays, the refund policy isn't as strict as it seems, as you can still attempt to request a refund even if your purchase went beyond the minimum requirements, but only in a scenario where a game failed to meet expectations beyond those two hours/two weeks (that and you had to make it clear that you didn't enjoy the game beyond that limit - you couldn't just complete any random game, then suddenly request a refund and say "lol game sucked")

    • @jic1
      @jic1 2 years ago +35

      As I recall, the game didn't have to be just "especially bad", it had to be non-functional. I think there were also exceptions for fraudulent games and games that had to be removed for things like stolen assets and copyright violations, but other than that it was 'you don't, like it? Well, tough luck'.

    • @RandomPerson964
      @RandomPerson964 2 years ago +25

      It's weird how many people don't understand how lenient Steam refunds are, and all they know is the two weeks/two hours part. From Steam's refund policy: "even if you fall outside of the refund rules we’ve described(2 weeks, 2 hours), you can ask for a refund anyway and we’ll take a look." If a game wasted your time for two or three hours before you realized it's crap, you can still refund it.
      They'll refund you no questions asked in the two week/two hour timeframe. A little outside of that, you just need to give a good reason. Cite hardware issues of you don't know what to say. As long as you're not trying to get a refund way out of that timeframe and intentionally abusing the system, you're okay.

    • @lewd6764
      @lewd6764 2 years ago

      IIRC, you actually CAN 100% a game in 2 hours, then refund it, no questions ask

    • @Pwnners
      @Pwnners Year ago

      Its still like that, the tutorial + the first game before you manage to grasp how bad the EA game will last longer than 2hours, no refund for you.

    • @Pwnners
      @Pwnners Year ago

      @lewd6764 People have done it, but like i said, most games now have tutorial segments that last long enough for you to be unable to refund. Or even some 30mins shader compilation in some cases.

    • @_PinkiePie.
      @_PinkiePie. Year ago

      @ekki1993 sorry 4 the reply I'm zooted and kinda got passionate wit it.
      As someone who grew up with them and still likes them to some extent, one of the biggest issues is the simplest. In order to play semi-safely in current time, you'll have to play the latest greatest dumpster heap to have any chance of human interaction. The fact that it's the same game isn't an issue kinda like 2k players won't find it an issue-you love this game, you loved playing it with others, but now servers are hacked or shut down entirely or it's completely unsafe for your hardware, and you have one legal option, which is purchase the newest game and hope it's similar to the ones you enjoyed before. The kind of game that you can sit down and relax with (even if it involves screaming) with friends. There's little pressure to perform impeccably as it's meant to be casual and most people aren't tryhards contrary to the stereotype. The last few years of entries are obviously even worse than their copied counterparts from the late 00's to early '10s. Still even further, there's the impact of the sizable divide of players where some like the early Modern Warfare entries, some like me disliked those and favored the 2008-2014 games for things like grim historical shit and a different vibe, and others who are now part of the battle royal crowd. It's a mess of different folks who are forced to intertwine if they want to be active in its playerbase, aside from royal players. Another facet is the obvious problems like monetization but the reality of people playing is that they are not locked into what this does to them like people always online are; they came home to drink beer and wind down after work, and don't feel bad about spending money on a camo after a long day. Not justifying it, but knowing numerous people who play to this day, if you look around generally, you'll see most people are more casual about these things than not. There is nothing wrong with that beyond the obvious vote-with-your-wallet debacle. I wish it were different, and that they cared more, but if wishes were pennies I'd be rich.
      There's even more to be said about the community being audibly upset about the way Activision has handled stealing voices and art through use of AI the last month or two, but this doesn't get talked about so much. It's a low bar that players at least have enough braincells to understand as immoral.
      There's lots of reasons players like one CoD while disliking
      others. No two games play precisely the same even if it doesn't look like it. I haven't truly enjoyed a COD game since Black Ops 2, until 6. Rose tinted glasses, but 2 was limited in its outlandishness and stayed mostly true to what I liked about the first installment. But I acknowledge 2 and 6 are nothing alike in the slightest in ways that truly matter to me and that this forces me to get comfortable with that for $70 to play with others, or revert to private servers as one of the few who would go to that length. (This is what I choose to do because I ain't got the money or 200gb for what boils down to one mode that I'll play sparingly, though the absolute garbage of the community lingers in private corners, so I'm forced to play solo anyway.)
      I got lost off topic, but this has always been fascinating to me when seeing people dog on franchises like this (for good reason). They rarely think more on the players beyond the sheeple mindset. Which again is accurate, but that doesn't mean people are stupid so much as willfully ignorant for their sanity. Offering perspective for the hell of it. I'm sure someone sober could offer better perspective that makes sense lool

    9:22 - Donkey Kong actually started as a Popeye game, there's some awesome early prototype drawings that show essentially the same setup we got in Donkey Kong but with Popeye characters (Jumpman = Popeye, Donkey Kong = Brutus, Pauline = Olive Oyl)! There were some delays getting the IP specifics worked out so Nintendo turned the work they had done into their own original IP with Donkey Kong. The rights holders for Popeye eventually did decide they wanted a game so they came up with another entirely separate game for them, the one that released after Donkey Kong.

Uh oh, the game is hard to make and/or the money ran out and/or we're bored of working on the game and want to do anything else. Either bail or push a bad 1.0 and then bail.

      Just because one grew up on or around farms doesn't mean you get to operate the newest or largest harvesters and tractors. It's for tractor nerds.
      Just like how I many play Snowrunner to enjoy huge offroad trucks they will never get to drive.
      I'm not saying there aren't those city gamers at all. But you've got to be pretty interested in the newest combine harvesters to keep getting the newest version.

    Fun fact about the Flatout 3, around the time of that game being released I was in a programming and art course equivalent to associates degree or trade school, we were required to do an internship to complete it. Quite literally half the 20 people class was an intern at Team 6 to the point that in out course it was called "the [name of class] company" or worse "the intern company", because from what people that interned there told a grand total of 4 people of the, roughly, 40 people that was in the office daily wasn't an intern making only ~10% of the people working at that office paid employees.

    One thing about the Gundam game that contributes a bit to the reviews is probably the lack of crossplay with consoles because the PC version decided to add new units from the franchise that they console gamers don't get.
    Basically the franchise is decades old with many interpretations, but the oldest versions of the franchise were centered around a single Universal Century timeline that was more militaristic. Later on it got way more anime in separate timelines and the giant robots got increasingly insane abilities as the franchise continued. The game started on consoles with an old school UC only robots thing, but the PC version introduced some of the later ones with comparitively insane abilities that some players thought would render all their favorites obsolete. It is now a huge division on consoles as to whether they want these newer units at all with some convinced it will ruin the game and devs actually holding a giant survey asking console players if they want to keep the new units out of the console version or if they want it to get all the ones the PC version has.

    I think the worst part of GBO2 is that it launched years earlier on PS4, and the matchmaking works there ssssssooooooooo

    I play Gundam Battle Operation 2 (apologies, GUNDAM BATTLE OPERATION 2) and I'm surprised yet not surprised that its on this list. I seem to be one of the fortunate ones that has decent internet- and yet the hardest part of the game is actually starting a match.
    Its a shame since aside from this problem, its a REALLY good Gundam game/team shooter. I don't even mind the gotcha mechanics that much since you earn a lot of free tokens (again though- if you can PLAY.)
    Its criminal that they haven't tried fixing any of these problems for people who actually have been able to play the game... we're a small but loyal crowd- and the game DOES get weekly updates!

      Yeah, as someone who has read into it, there's a lot. Like how, for the last few years of the classic era of the show, it was basically left at the mercy of people who hated it and wanted it to fail.

      @applejuice7108 If it wasn't for that, they wouldn't have been getting any attention at all by that point. The show was already all but dead.

      @jic1 I tried to give it a chance.
      Then they turned the Master into an obnoxious potato and had said obnoxious potato somehow singlehandedly destroy Gallifrey thus negating the best anniversary special the modern show ever produced and I checked out entirely.

    Just a correction thats pedantic but minecraft was sold in pre alpha too. I bought mine during infdev and it was $5. When it went to alpha the price went to $15, but buying it before then still got you the full release. Id like to say i only spent $5 on minecraft but i bought it on 360 and switch, however my pc version was $5.

    it would be nice if steam went "as long as a game is in early access, it's refund time limit is increased from 2 hours to 50" suddenly a lot of early access games would reconsider being early access

    Er, in GBO2 lv1 penalty only bans you for one day and 5 hours, its the lv 2 penalty that bans you for 7 days.
    I know this because Ive gotten hundreds of penalties in my 800 hours of play time (and I still play daily since day 1)

    @ 28:50 The reason flatout 3 was such dog shit was because they used assets from the flatout wii release that they originally helped to make instead of making new, better-looking, and functioning assets for PC.

    the funny thing about Uriel's Chasm is that the developer, self described "micro indie developer" (whatever the hell that meant given indies are usually small), goes on to create thematicly connected games as if they try to create a lore or series or something. Surprisingly the follow-ups has less negative reviews despite they have roughly the same quality (probably because even though they're cheap, Uriel's Chasm is an enough of a deterrent).
    Also you forget that while "Next Car Game" cancelled, Bugbear went on to create one of the most underrated best demolition racing game of 2018 (with several Early Access years): Wreckfest.
