    I did the fodmap diet this past Aug with dietician overseeing me for 3 visits over 8 weeks. Ended in Oct. It is hard, but doable if you stay committed. I ate new things I would never try prior. I found I can have small amount of lactose, fructose, and gluten. High amounts of fructose (8 oz soda) and lactose (1 container yogurt) cause IBS cramps and diareah within a couple hours. High Gluten (2 sandwiches in a day) caused weird stomach, no cramps, and some urgency. Onion and garlic were fine. Been maintaining since Oct and feel much better. My symptoms were urgency, diareah, and crap feeling. So far, since Oct, been doing 90% better. I lost 15 pounds on low fodmap, but now maintaining with no complaints. I have IBS for 30 years now, so very happy I committed and discovered my problem categories. Fructose intolerance surprised me. Dairy not a big surprise. As long as I watch my portion sizes, I have been doing well. Fingers crossed it sticks. Highly recommend people try it, and don't cheat, so you can find the issues.

      Glad I can help. It's been awhile now and can say I am doing fairly well. If I cheat and eat too much dairy, fructose, or gluten I have bad stomach and pay the price. I do this every once in awhile and regret it everytime! I have a weakness for breads, cheese, ice cream, or chocolate. If I stick to my thresholds, which really is pretty easy, I feel fine. There are plenty of healthy and unhealthy options to choose from that don't contain gluten, fructose, and dairy. I highly recommend all IBSers try the FODMAP diet, it's really helped me so far. Good luck.

It's strongly connected to gut health and if you learn about that with the low FODMAP diet it can seriously help with IBS more than going on the diet alone can do. Highly recommended!

    Hi Becky, another great video. I’ve been on it for months and months, following doctors recommendation for stomach distension and bloating, also gluten, and lactose free and I don’t eat meat. What I’ve found has made a real difference is drinking apple cider vinegar before meals and also taking digestive enzymes and bile salts. They all seem to help break up food better so the gut doesn’t have to work so hard. During a bad flare, although these are getting less, I change to a liquid diet of homemade puréed soup, herbal teas and coconut milk and that helps too.i have IBS c and acid reflux caused by a hiatus hernia.

      Shine baby shine .... ppi tablets have given me IBS, bloating, distension. This is because we need acid to break down food and acid reduction was causing the food to enter my guts not digested enough . The acv before a meal triggers the les valve to close on its own, mine is a sliding hernia. Just make sure there’s no active burn/gastritis/oesophagitis/ulcers.

      I think the symptoms can often be mistaken for something else. But one really does hear from the doctors that it is all in the patients head. A doctor should get into trouble for saying something silly like that.
      Often we notice tiny symptoms before the major illness symptoms show up because we know our bodies. Then it can be really tough to diagnose.
      All in all, it is always in our best interest to do our homework and not rely on physicians so much who are overworked anyways and who really do not pay much attention to the high importance of nutrition.
      Correct nutrition is the medicine we don't have to go to the doctors for, pay for huge medical bills, pay for meds with tons of side effects that cost a lot of money.....

    I don't strictly follow low fodmap, but I don't eat a lot of fruit (or super ripe fruit), dairy/lactose, very fatty/greasy foods, or alcohol. It helps but even eating too much insoluble fiber by accident can cause a lot of problems. It is hard to get in those healthy fruits and veg when they hurt so badly!

    • @dm5129
      @dm5129 4 года назад +1

      Try juicing, it has helped with IBS, especially if you also juice veggies. Juicing your veggies and fruits make them super digestable and your digestion tract hardly has to work at all to get the nutrition.

    after 2 years on the low fodmap diet I have found that I can actually tolerate small amounts of garlic and tiny amounts of onion if roasted or stir fried, not soluble in water. Also there is no difference for me between GF pasta and normal pasta in small amounts. The biggest difference for me was quitting legumes and dried beans and have had less nausea and biliousness which used to last for a month !Wheat flour home baked is a no no but I can tolerate very small thin slices of white well cooked bread, for example, Bakers Delight. Must restrict grapes and rockmelon and watermelon is out! I have strange reactions to quinoa Instant coffee is high in fructans and is bad for me. I miss green peas! and cauliflower.

I'm going to go back to the dietitian to maybe reassess the low Fodmap diet and what I can and can't eat, just hoping theres something else thats changed or been discovered in the last few years with the diet. There are somethings like onion, garlic and mushrooms that completely destroy my gut if I consume them. Everything else tried in the reintroduction phase also upset my gut but to varing degrees. Its pretty sucky being on this diet for so long and not having the most success. Hopefully something will change soon enough.

    Tried FODMAP but it seemed so hit 'n miss. Couldn't wrap my head around why so much sugar and carbs are allowed when they are often cited as the main cause of parasties/candida etc.
    Trying GAPs diet now tho it's only been a week. Have you tried Becky? I've read the book and it's the first thing I've read since getting chronic IBS that chimes with my experience (eating rubbish since early age, various random immune system disorders). Anyway, keep up the good work.

    • @MysteriousBlue77
      @MysteriousBlue77 5 лет назад +2

      Dobule Trobule candida is a fictionalised condition to sell supplements. It doesn’t overgrown in the colon. Parasites are rare unless you live in somewhere like Mexico.

    • @MysteriousBlue77
      @MysteriousBlue77 5 лет назад +2

      Monika IBS isn’t an Inflammatory condition and anti inflammatory diets are full of IBS triggers. Parasites are not common in this country that is a statistical fact. So unless you’ve been somewhere else it is unlikely. Candida is real but it only overgrows internally if you have something seriously wrong with you like immune system failure from cancer for example or aids. It doesn’t occur in the colon in people otherwise and you can ask any gastroenterologist and biologist - candida overgrowth in the colon is visible so there is no missing it anyway. We all have candida anyway it’s found in our stools in normal healthy amounts. Your really pushing the typical lies sold by health websites that really don’t help anybody - I have been helping people with IBS for 15 years and honestly the only real help is a combination of CBT, LOW FODMAP and medications. IBS is a functional condition where the brain and colon don’t communicate leading to an increased intestinal sensitivity. Nobody knows the exact cause or has a cure - that isn’t something people like to agree with as it’s a scary thought. I suggest you do some reading on the ‘gut brain and microbiota connection’ very informative stuff about IBS there.

    • @jaspersgrimoire
      @jaspersgrimoire 5 лет назад +1

      It’s not that sugar and carbs feed candida (which isn’t actually a thing you need to worry about in your guts, and leaky gut is entirely fictional), it’s that those compounds are common to have a poor response to. For example lactose intolerance is caused when your body stops producing lactase, the compound that breaks it down into useable molecules. Instead of breaking it down your body just goes ‘YEET’ and gives you the runs to get it out.

    So much confusion caused by one food list classifying a good as high vs low and other lists saying the opposite. i bet all of you have been frustrated by this too. one thing i'm trying to figure out and maybe someone can shortcut my research is why grapefruit are often listed as "high" and oranges are listed as "low" even though their fructose to glucose ratios are very close to each other, around 1.0 which is supposed to be ideal. with that in mind, what makes grapefruit a high and oranges a low????

    • @omnamnamz

    I'm just curious why you didn't mention the protocol for SIBO, if that's what you had. You can't heal your gut with diet alone. Also, there are natural ways of eliminating the bacterial overgrowth. You don't have to take antibiotics. There is also digestive enzymes and other parts of the protocol that I'm learning about now. You can cure your gut issues but you need to know exactly what they are before you do the diet. Check out Dr. Richard Hagmeyer and also GojiMan on RUclips for some great information on digestive health. Hope you can find your way back to health with a little education.😊

    Hello Becky , I have been told That I have Diverticular complicated by I B S, and I was on a program called Pain Free Foods , which lead me to more complications , you were to only eat Protein , and vegetables together and only carbohydrates and vegatables together not mixing the Protein and the Carbs together at anyone time waiting at least 3 hrs before you could have any of either group , and if You had a flare up which is what I refer to as a lot of pain specifically in the area which the Diverticular is most prominent which is the sigmoid area of the bowel on the left side , you would go on a fluid diet for at least 24 to 48 hours longer if needed ,and only consuming clear fluids ,which is what a doctor or hospital would follow if Diverticulitis was obvious ! My problem was that on the recovery plan of eating was ,pancakes and pasta ,I was flaring up again ,I have cut a lot of Gluten out of my Diet ,I have seen a Gastroenterologist and he insisted that I stick to the Fodmap plan eliminate any food that troubles me, which I have , Gluten , Lactose , Legumes , I don`t eat whole Nuts , eat very little nut butters that I absolutely loved and miss, I avoid seeds even strawberries they have such fine seeds ,and It just makes me anxious to eat them so I don`t !! SO I feel the Fodmap has helped somewhat, I am eating more normally I guess you could say , mixing the two groups together, BUT Apart from being able to eat some small amounts of white rice , which I love I cannot eat Brown ,yet its Low Fodmap I really don`t think there is a cure !!

    Hi Becky, long time no speak since getting my SIBO diagnosis well things didnt go well, i was given 2 antibiotics and i swear one almost ruined my life in every sense it poisoned me to an extent that i still have neurological issues from it. Doctors think im just making it up but Metronidazole Toxicity is a thing that is more common than they seem to want to let on. I was just wondering if you have read about the carnivore diet? I'm looking to try this next for my journey of trying to get my stomach to a normal happy place

      Yeah my problems really got bad after antibiotics too. I think fecal transplants might hold promise but they’re insanely difficult to get.

      Delicious as it Looks is a blog with a lot of good recipes, and she has a book. Kate Scarlata also has some books, and I like the blog Fun Without FODMAPS. I think she has a book too. If you look on Pinterest you can find a lot of blogs that are about low fodmap recipes

    It can be so much easier for men as they don’t deal with monthly hormonal changes which worsen, by the way, in ourlate 40s ladies… c est la vie!

    Everyone is different, the FODMAP diet is a general guide. Each person is different. Listen and take notice of your body it is telling you what it can handle. 🍽🇦🇺👍 My doctor recommend me to try the low FODMAP diet and did a lot of my own research finding the Monash Uni etc Earlier this year I went to a dietitian and knew most of what they were suggesting.

      I've had it since 1986 at least. I put it down to when I stopped smoking. Lol!
      Ok, it's just a coincidence, or maybe that's when I started eating "healthily" ie more veggies or something like that. And I'm not taking up ciggies again.

    I'm no sure about Bread, can I eat Bread? If I have IBS

    • @vale.castaneda
      @vale.castaneda 5 лет назад +5

      I think it's different for everybody, but if you have noticed that you might have a problem with bread then you should try eliminating it from your diet and seeing if that makes you feel better. Many people with IBS have problems digesting Gluten, which is found in bread.

    I think you might not have IBS. Do you? I found the doctors diagnose every one with IBS because it only involves working with a dietitian and make me free from delving deeper into what is really wrong .
    what do you think?

    4:50 Foods that 'should not aggravate' us according to the list of FODMaP..... are still aggravating because again, your OWN body (every individuality) is not addressed, i.e. Ayurvedic Dosha (body type according in Ayurvedic Life Science - Vata/Pitta/Kapha constitutions). Best Wishes

    Fruits and veggis are a killer. Psyllium seed is awful. I live on a Keto diet. Lots of oils and meats, fish and chicken. That has helped a lot. Spinach is the only veggi i can tolerate.

    I have all the symptoms associated with fodmaps but will find it impossible to do the diet being mostly vegetarian. All the information on fodmaps is really conflicting so where can you get good info? It seems aubergine and water are only things that are ok?

    You can play around with FODMAP, or just go full elimination diet with carnivore and rapidly CURE your gut problems. Plus it was super easy to eat keto/carnivore.
