I wish we could determine the exact cause of IBS (like, what determines if a person will get it). I'm a long time vegan, and I remember when I could eat apples and grains multiple times a day with no negative effects. Somewhere along the way I began to experience ibs symptoms that got worse and worse until I had to go on the low fodmap diet. Now I can go a few months with no symptoms, but then I'll get a little naughty on holiday and suddenly I'm back at square one. I think living with ibs is really about learning to live with moderation and balance - but that can be hard sometimes when you just want to live your life and be normal.
Very interesting to see how it's been working out for you. Didn't know "stacking" over 2-3 days would be such an issue. Lots of useful info in your video. Thanks! :)
Some really interesting points I hadn’t considered. I’m still in the reintroduction challenge phase but I remember I used to seem okay with some foods once or twice but not three days in a row. So I assumed I wasn’t okay with those foods. I’ll still need to see how I go with reintroduction but that’s a great point about maybe including something alternate days etc. I was looking at it all as all or nothing. Also, thank you for taking off the music in your videos. I haven’t watched your videos in quite a while as I can’t cope with competing sounds (I have auditory sensitivities) but now I know you’re no longer having the music there, I’ll go back and see which videos I can watch. Thanks for all your hard work sharing this information.
This has been really useful, I'm on stage 1 so it's handy to know how "combos" and "stacking" might work in the coming months! Good to bear in mind rather than just writing things off completely after 1 flare up!
I'm just starting with this and it's difficult and depressing but your videos are really helpful and gives me lots of encouragement So thank you so much for doing these videos
I think you are right in saying the its all about personal tolerances. Stress plays such a big part too. I know when I am stressed I have to watch my fodmaps more
So glad I've found your channel! Was really uplifting to hear your story as i'm currently in the reintroduction phase and have moments of feeling down. Will be checking out some of the vegan resources you suggested
Thank you for your tips! I travel for work sometimes and that's a struggle! On those trips I try to have a strict low FODMAP breakfast and lunch, which can mean packing food for the trip, and then I can typically eat a little looser at dinner. At the very least, I don't usually have to worry about "hidden" ingredients then. I struggle with fructans, only those lovely delicious onions, garlic, and mushrooms, so I have to limit those while traveling and make sure that when I do have them, we will be back to the hotels a few hours after the meal when all the symptoms hit me!
Haha, "If a recipe calls for 1 clove of garlic I'm putting in 4!" Those were the days. 😆 I'm now a 1/4 of a clove kinda gal. 😭 Random question but do you notice that you can REALLY smell garlic on yourself and other people since cutting down? I must have stunk before! 😷😜
I just discovered your channel and i started elimination phase as my doctor finally was able to tell me what was wrong with me...i have been extremely bloated with so much pain for months now andi do hope this low fodmap life will heal my huge belly :(
my pain problem is abdominal pain, cramps even burning sensation in the colon. how long have you stayed on the low FODMAP diet before seeing improvements? and did you have this kind of constant abdominal pain before? what about now?
Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge and experience with us. I wonder after how long you began reintroducing foods. I have been on a vegan low Fodmap diet for about 6 months now. I cheat only when I eat out and I usually pay for it with cramps and bloating the next day. I think I may start a journal to try to find out which foods are bothering me most.
Journal is a good idea. Make it very detailed. My journal was too general, sometimes a food for me was fine BUT with another food close by it wasn't. It's time consuming but worth it. Go slow try one item on its own and take notes.
Oh wow... This makes it even more complicated. How do I find out that suddenly, days later, I can’t tolerate something I ate the days before without issues? Symptoms are not always that clear. Frustrating right? 🙈 thank you for sharing this info it’s very helpful.
Journal your food. Look back and see okay what have I eaten multiple times in a row? She's gone through the addition phase so she already knew what foods were the triggers now she's doing combo challenges.
I'm on the reintroduction phase after putting it off and getting too comfortable on a low fodmap diet. Do i need to do the tests for all different types of a particular fodmap? i.e. if I'm having symptoms on one source of sorbitol, should I also be trying another source of sorbitol too?
@@calandra9234 Hi, not eating normally, I'm still low fodmap. I mean that if you find yourself having a bad reaction to one source of fodmap (say sorbitol), should you then try another source of sorbitol?
This isn't a diet cure, it's a lifestyle. I think the word diet is misleading. Perhaps treatment plan would be best and then after your on a maintenance plan. Then if you mess up and eat something that really messed with your system you can go back to the safer food (low FODMAP foods) to rest your gut and calm things down. Its literally you treating your body with food to keep symptoms at bay. Its like having a food allergy, and your working out what it is, then in your mind you have to say ok, that's a no go from now on. Or I'm willing to eat it but I know the consequences.
The "A" stands for "and", that's one of the easiest ones. I snorted haha. Great progress :)
‘Don’t want to brag’ lol 😂💚
I just want to thank you for your videos! they're super helpful and relatable for those of us who are vegan with gut issues. very much appreciated!

Glad it was useful :D I hope you have good luck with the diet!

Thank you for making these videos. You have helped me more than you know ❤

I'm exactly the same, stress and my periods have such a huge effect on my symptoms. 🙄

I am 60 and moved to more plant based diet but also have had gut issues for years and really had issues with beans and legumes

Me too, I'm getting cramps everyday 😭

I think some ppl may have sibo, or candida. And that's why the lowfodmap diet may not be working.

A stands for "Atrocious Fermentable Things..."
You're so lucky you can tolerate so many! any amount of fodmap or grain is doom for me haha
So helpful 🌻 thanks
Searching about low fodmap diet, thank you
By the way, u r so beautiful, kinda royalty look you have

Some people can eat fructans from some sources but not from others, so that can be worth testing.

So these stomach tissues / sensitivity are forever !?!?!?!?!
They’re treatable with diet but yeah, they’re chronic.
