Growing up i had a couple female vocalists that i just loved...
Diana Ross, Donna Summer, Chaka Khan, Patti LaBelle, Teena Marie, Ann Wilson, Gladys Knight, Joni Mitchell, Aretha Franklin, Mama Cass, Janis Joplin, Tina Turner, Esther Phillips, Phyllis Hyman, Karen Carpenter, and a few others.....

Yes! There's a brightness in her tone quality, and she can get a real edge to her sound when she goes loud. And the go soft and round like a muted trumpet. 🎺

My mother used to play that album too. My mother was born in 1924 and she played a lot of music, on her reel to reel. All the greats, like Cab Callaway, Pearl Bailey, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr ( who I got to meet in the early 80s), and Frank Sinatra. I lost her when I was 11 and I know where I got my vast taste for tunes. Music is magic and a lot of times, it's just what the Dr ordered. I definitely have good memories of music and I definitely played a lot of Chaka Khan too.

I’m 63. I saw Ella Fitzgerald live as a present to myself for my 27th birthday. Ms. Fitzgerald was elderly, walking with a cane, and two young men had to escort her to a stool. She sat and performed the entire concert from that stool. Her phenomenal voice filled the air. Not long after that concert, she had a leg amputation and ultimately died from severe diabetes. That same year I was privileged to see Sarah Vaughan in concert. Absolutely amazing. Unfortunately, she also passed away not long after that concert. I’m 63 now and all I can say is that I’m so glad I was privileged to see these two great ladies in concert. RIP Ella, Sarah, Billie, and Bessie. ❤🙏

Yes ma'am you have quite an honor in seeing those great dames of singing! I did see Nina Simone in the 90s here in Chicago and she took had to be helped to the piano, but she was sheer magic after that. My friend and I along with a small group waited in the alley by her limousine to see her come out. She graciously waved and smile to us. I did also get to see in the 70s Mercer Ellington and the Duke Ellington Orchestra. Of course later I've seen Aretha, Diana. I even drive up to Detroit to see the Hitsville Museum. Love this culture so much.

So beautiful inside and out and well when I finally met her for the first time , I never thought I would lose my coolness and I did completely naming good older songs to show how much she truly made a huge impact that moved me in my life and when she was so kind I never imagined I would be at her house many times in a Choir that was short lived but any time I did see her at her house no make up or. All made up she was always so kind to all of us and the only other person that I lost it when I met was Elton .. he said hello gorgeous went to kiss me and I turned my cheek at the last moment he grabbed my chin, pulled it right back kissed me right on the lips and my knees buckled and this grin was on his face like good to know I still got it with the ladies and I don’t think he said that but the smirk had me laughing on the ground ..

Yes Queen. The sadness that I feel got Whitney too. Urgh. The talent that has made permanent contribution to the art of music. Their voices were so different but I feel they both left here waaay too soon. Too soon. Because the pain was heavier than their bodies could hold. Rest in peace songbirds

Lady in Satin was her second to last album to be recorded. She would turn up to the studio with a glass of vodka most of the time. Her last album was called “Billie Holiday” and was later retitled “Billie Holiday Last Recording” as it was released after her death. She had to be held up by a nurse recording the album and one of the songs they had to increase the speed of in post because she couldn’t sing fast enough.

She is my celebrity twin even tho she is older than my mom! 😆 However, when my mom was coming up people called her “Chaka khan” and some still do. I guess there had to be some truth to it because I look just like my mom too. Thank goodness she is such a beauty ❤
