Growing up in the barrio, everyone made fun of me for skateboarding and trying to act "white". It is so great that skateboarding's appeal now transcends all cultures. Thanks, Fabian for helping break those barriers. One of my favorite street skaters of all time.

Remember meeting Fabian at slam city jam he was skating the streets with Kareem and the city stars guys it inspired me big time when I was young. Good to see him doing better these days!
From what I gather Kareem was ripping off all of his team riders and after THPS he pretty much disappeared to become a rapper. No offense but I never heard any of the songs and they never reached a large audience. Maybe he invested that video game money real good because he has not been in skating since. Other than the occasional interview about THPS.
Thanks Nine Club and Fabian....this was a deep episode. I am one of those kids that grew up idolizing the Menace team after seeing just that short section in Trilogy. The team's style made waves in the skate community. So happy to see Fabian in such a positive place in his life. He's got so much charisma and wisdom. I got my skateboard stolen once during my teenage years and it traumatized me for a long time because skating meant so much to me and back then a complete was expensive for my family. 😢

Im so appreciative for the Nine Club. This life has been a ride and turbulent. Nothing has compared to the friends i have made skating and even though people just say get over your problems and kick you while you're down. Skaters have always been different!

Great episode! I had 3 Menace boards back in the day- 2 Fabian’s and one Joey. One of them was a team USA type series. I was stoked on that one because Shane Heyl, Ellington ( I believe), and Scotty were rocking them at a contest in ‘94.

Great episode!!! It's probably the best one on the nine club. We used to skateboard in East LA in the late 90s, and the Menace crew was a big influence because they looked like we did. Fabian was right. Most skateboarders in LA dressed and acted like the environment around them. East side of town and the NELA had sick spots too.
