That Big Brother interview was the best. The interview began with that black and white photo of him launching an ollie. On both sides of him were gang members. That photo was both exciting and terrifying. It makes me think of the old Ice-T song "Colors". I am a nightmare walkin Psychopath talkin King of my jungle Just a gangsta stalkin
Big Brother exposed the grittier side of skateboarding. Two things about skateboarding which make it appealing are the low cost of a skateboard, and the multitude of streets and skate spots. This means that people from all over the world can skateboard. People from low income areas, or third world countries can skate. This means we truly get to see the best skateboarding possible. Compare this to golf, where probably only one percent of the world can afford to be avid golfers. That Fabian interview in Big Brother showed that people who looked different from Tony Hawk could skate well. Incidentally, probably the greatest skateboarder ever spent much of his life in the rather dangerous country of Brazil...... Bob Burnquist.
Haven't watched this yet but want to say I moved to LA(los feliz) in 1996. Met all the people you'd think I would. Fabian was hands down the nicest dude out of all of them. Could tell he was one of those dudes that if you skated and tried and weren't a cornball, he had your back. Zero pretense or superficiality. Dude was straight up cool af and nice, polite. Rare back then
@@stevenskates8077 It dose skating is a strong passion for me even after all the injuries I always come back and it’s a big stress reliever for me and a lot of other people too
I'm chicano to n grew up around that environment to n i also ride bmx n bmx saved me from trouble for the most part lol so much memories pops up in my head watching this
Mexico? I saw you can get a house there for like 100k I think in like Mexico city. Is it like safe there? I mean I've seen the Sinaloa guys dump 100 over rounds into that cops car, I don't care about that it's more like those stories of organ theft and stuff. I mean Mexico city looks like a nice place. I wouldn't mind some of that la coca either. Cocaina! And meth is methampetamina? Si?
@Ceasar Alexander I was watching that Vice doc 'From Psycho Killer To Painter', how did the cartel not get rid of him if he was causing them trouble? I mean the pistoleros will get rid of anyone. You saw what they did to the cop that arrested El Chapo's son!
I had a couple friends I call brothers from the old skate days that I think were talented enough to get sponsored. They got caught up in crazy stuff and drifted away from skating, man I miss my bros. SKATEBOARDING SAVES LIVES
I remember seeing Fabian Alomar skating at Los Feliz around 90/91. He was doing huge pressure flips over the hip. Gabriel Rodriguez (RIP) was there that day doing huge late big spins over the hip. Lance and RB were filming that day too. Sick day skating.
Light years away from todays skateboarding culture. The 90s era surely attracted lots of bad boys, bums & freaks into skateboarding. That was a badass time, not saying better or worst but definitely different than today, when skateboarding was still perceived (and probably was) as a real urban culture full of kids with issues. Not as safe as today I swear.
happened to all „real & genuine“ subcultures, with mainstream success comes gentrification....nowadays it s more about romanticizing ideals rather than fully living it
well said. Exactly what my 47 year-old ass thought when I dusted off my board to show up at the local street spot a few weeks ago. at least half of the people you see skating today would not have gotten into it in the 90's, no fucking way.....
Skateboarding saved my life and most of my friends lives. It sucks growing up and getting caught in the streets but at least we still cherish those days when all we had were eachother
Damn i can't wait for part 2 it's always awsome seeing these stories for people that might be skateboarders and going threw some shit too love it that he pulled himself outta it tho
I remember seeing this dude at lockwood during the weekends.. also used to shop at that X-Large store that was around The block from where Kingswell is now. I feel old AF haha
Danny Trejo reminds me of my pop, dude is super cool and watching him always reminds me of my dad who was murdered a few years back. Can't wait to see part 2!
0:30 I used to have that mag, I read that whole interview, remember when I was into skating late 90's I used to look up to all this skaters it's been a while since I heard that name, glad he's doing OK and still around.
Fabian's a good dude, I used to kick it with him back in 95 and 96 with his cousin Plug & Googy, glad to see he's out and doing good always been an amazing person and a phenomenal skater
Been skating since high school.stopped skating and fell in with wrong crowd.made poor decisions and then I went to federal prison for 97 months...I learned my lesson though
Dudes a legend. ATM click was sick. Danny trejo is a good dude. My old sk8 buddy kicked it with Fabian in the bad part of North hills back in the day. Was all jealous. That old Menace team was a big influence on me

So funny. He sounds exactly like him
i started cackling hahaha
A bit to kermit the frog
I walked away and came back thinking Mark was being interviewed
Yeah this is tight, stories like this makes me appreciate skateboarding on a cultural level.
Shooting that opener for Big Brother brings back some memories.
You're a legend! Thanks for your contribution to skateboarding

It’s crazy thinking that a piece of wood and wheels can change a persons life
Maybe it's more like some people can materialize their passion and thirst for life changes into piece of wood with small wheels
It does something to your mind , I can’t explain it
It's called Skateboard

Fabian is a great example of why people should get second chances.
It's just sad how many people don't get opportunities like he did
Wrote to Fabian while he was doing time. He’s a great guy, with a keen wit. All the best Fabian!

Today most dudes are soft. Skating early 90’s was the shit
Skateboarding was real back then. Now it's full of pretty boys who never went through shit in life.
Don't underestimate kids man, as one I know other kids who skate with me who be going through a fuck ton of shit, they're some of the strongest ppl ik
Gonz was easily one of my favourite street skaters growing up. Awesome to see him giving back to the streets helping kids respect
