Close the dishwasher so you don’t need to stretch the spring

Thanks for sharing! I was able to easily do this repair on my Bosch dishwasher in about 30 or so minutes. It was even easier than the video because there were no metal plates to remove on the sides of the dishwasher

Good to hear! Thanks for watching and sharing, @halarnarson! Yeah, Bosch dishwasher is even easier without the metal covers on the sides.

Insert a flat headed screwdriver between the spring coils. This will spread the spring out and will give you more leverage to push the spring toward the door, so it's easier to connect the plastic hook at the end of the spring to the door

Thank you so much for this great video! You convinced me that I could fix the door myself, and even gave me the link to order the springs. The whole job took me - a 70-year-old woman - less than 15 minutes and saved me $$$. The best!!!

You asked for suggestions on how to install more-easily. I found that if you feed the cord over one pulley only before attaching to the hinge, it goes-on very easily. Then, pull the cord over the other pulley either with your hand or using a needle-nose plier. Much easier than maintaining full-tension on the spring while trying to attach to the hinge

I went through this exact process about 2 years ago with the new "improved" spring kits. The metal parts didn't fail, but the plastic part that hooks onto the door failed in than two year period. I'm starting to think that Bosch designed these parts to fail.

Great video, this is exactly what failed in my dishwasher 2 weeks ago and after reviewing the replacement kit, it's all fixed!

Has anyone had an issue with the new kit being a little too long? It hardly required any stretching of the string to install, and it barely decreases the speed at which the door falls open. I bought a kid that claims to be OEM Bosch and correct for my dishwasher. I'm thinking I could knot it at the end near the spring to shorten. Any other ideas?

We tried hooking the the plastic piece first, weaving it around and then stretched the spring coil and slotted it in. Worked for us

My screws for side panels were torx 20. Also it was only the bottom one on each side. I had to bend back the black plastic flaps to find them

Thank you! We purchased the improved spring with the metal connectors. It was hard to get the old broken spring out, but we managed. We used vice grips to pull the string and the spring apart to connect the string side to the door. The new replacements are working great so far! Many Thanks for posting this video.😊

Looking for replacement door spring kit for DWHD440MFM/02 but having some trouble - can’t seem to line up model number with any available replacements on Amazon. Please help!

Will this work on a 9 year old Bosch dishwasher? And does the replacement part need to be specific to the model number Bosch?

    • @Tech4Baba
      @Tech4Baba  Год назад +1

Good question, @tc7486! My Thermadore is about 8 years old. I think they share the same replacement parts but you can double check for your model number on amzn.to/3OzxYeK.

Your dishwasher part number is on a sticker inside. Mine was on the righthand inside lip of the door. The replacement kits usually list the compatible models. Mine was a SHP65T55UC/02

Just received the parts via Amazon in two days! Used this video to guide me and it was perfect! My model had no side panels so that made it even easier. Thanks!

I notice that the old springs have two widths, and thus two levels of resistance. This allows the door to open more easily at first, and to hold the door more firmly as it pivots down.
One week later: the parts arrived, and it took me TEN minutes to replace the old springs on my Bosch. I didn't need to disconnect the electrical or the plumbing: there was enough slack to allow me to pull out the dishwasher. Getting the old springs out required a bit of levering with a screwdriver, otherwise, smooth as butter!
Thanks, Tech4Baba! I'm leaving you a tip to thank you for all the money you just saved me!

I could not get enuf leverage to stretch the spring so I used a Pony tape clamp. I put a simple slip knot loop in the tape and ran a loop of strong wire through the plastic clip that attaches to the door. 6:25 There is a hole in it that us probably used by an installer. There is a steel stud on top the frame that I anchored the rachet on. I got it lined up with the hook on the door and
released the rachet. There was a satisfying thunk and I went to the next one. Masking tspe to hold the spring in place

I used the second link for the new springs and installed as instructed in the video (very helpful). The tension to keep the door up with the new springs installed is a little better but the door still crashes down at about 1/4 of the way open. I have the exact dishwasher as in the video. Has anyone run into this issue? Is there any way to make it more tight?
