THANK YOU SO MUCH !! I finally understand how to use foundation paper!!!! YIPPEE !!!! I am a beginning quilter & you just opened up a whole new world of quilting to me! gonna order that paper!
I love these papers! I never thought I would enjoy paper piecing but these are addictive. I am almost finished with a 12 inch block quilt using Pinkerville jelly roll strips and I am so proud of how perfect the blocks look even though I know that was because of FQS and not because of me haha! thank you!
Can't wait to purchase. I already have an idea for the colors white with black and black with white. Thanks for coming up with easier ways to help us be creative!
i hope this doesn't come across as rude, but why do people use the paper instead of just sewing the pieces that were already cut out? does it make the final shape easier, or easier to keep your colors straight? It almost looks as if the process is more putzy instead of saving time, or I'm not understanding? I get using the triangle paper, I'm just not seeing the time savings here with the log cabin unless the paper is for some other reason?
Hi Christine, some people prefer the paper piecing method because it guarantees the block will come out perfect whereas in regular piecing you have to rely on accurate cuts and a perfect 1/4" seam for accuracy. Also, you can use random scraps without having to cut to an exact size which makes the process easier for some people.
Just finishing the ultimate beginner quilt and wondering what I was going to do with my smaller extra pieces. You have fixed that dilemma for me. Thanks
Love this method... wanting to cut my own strips as I have found a beautiful line of fabrics I love... can u give me a rough estimate on how much yardage to do your 42 square 12inch pack? Wanting to buy enough but not go overboard...lol.. and appropriately how many different material patterns? Line I love has 10...but could choose main 6 etc. If needed... opinions? Love videos and bought both 6 and 12 packs...plan to make quilt then later few shams... thank u!!
I know you had talked about making a quilt out of these from scraps of quilts i made this year. How many blocks of the 6" size do you think you need to do this?
hi kimberly...quick question...i would like to make a log cabin block with a 4" center square... would i just pick up the piecing at piece 5 and all will be well? thanks... (need an 8" block for a memorial quilt--honoree photograph is 4-1/2... planning a 12" log cabin, cut down to finish at 8")
What is the real benefit of using PP for a log cabin block. I may be naive as I'm a newbie quilter, but it seems like all videos I've watched of the log cabin, this really isn't any different...except that you're sewing to a piece of paper. Am I missing something? Thanks!
I was wondering the same thing. It seems to me as if paper piecing would be beneficial for very intricate designs but for something like a log cabin, the concern is just to cut the pieces correctly. I am also a newbie though so I could very well be missing something.
Could you do a tutorial on the different pressure feet. I have ones that come with my machine but I don't know what they are for they do not tell in my manual Plus I would like to buy some to do different things but I don't know what they look like or how to use them. I would greatly appreciate it
I know this is a year later, however I love FPP. The reason is to basically “lock” your stitches and make sure all seams are 1/4 inch as you would in any quilt piecing.
@@kambyr hi, I know this is a year later, but you’re folding the paper when you flip over to trim fabric to your normal 1/4 inch seam as in your normal quilt piecing. If you don’t fold the paper back, you will end up trimming the paper off as well, which will mess up the paper piecing quilt block. The point of paper piecing gives you very crisp seams and fairly perfect blocks.
@@kambyr I get that. You feel that way at first, however, the fabric needs to be bigger than the lines, so it still makes it hard to follow. FPP is a very backwards way of seeing the quilt. You’re actually piecing on the bottom of the the fabrics from bottom to top. Which is a confusing way to explain it. I use a light box under it or I will actually color my “boxes” in order of fabrics on the numbered side, then I will write the numbers to each on on the fabric side. But you’re always sewing on the opposite side of the fabric and following the lines anyway. Which is how you get perfect seams.
Hello Donn! Unfortunately not, you need to be able to take out your paper after piecing your blocks. If you did QAYG with this paper, i don't think you'd be able to remove the paper.
THANK YOU SO MUCH !! I finally understand how to use foundation paper!!!! YIPPEE !!!! I am a beginning quilter & you just opened up a whole new world of quilting to me! gonna order that paper!
I bought the paper but your instructions are so much easier than what is printed on the block, thank you for making it so much easier
Happy to have found this! I bought a paper pieced log cabin kit, it came with uncut strips and a paper. No instructions! lol. This helps a lot!
Gone are the days when we used regular paper and anguished over removing the bits that remained...yay for It’s Sew Emma.

I am definitely going to get some of this paper. I want them all.🤪
Thanks for the tutorial! So many possibilities! I can see a scrappy quilt in my future! ❤️👏🏻
Thank you so much! I love watching all these tutorials learn soo much!!!!
Great video! Thanks FQS! I love watching Kimberly piece & sew!
Y’all are killing me with all the pretties! Now to decide which ones to get!

Thanks for showing how to use the log cabin paper.
Thank you!! This was very helpful.
Never thought I would say that I love a paper piecing pattern but I love it more in a 12” 😍😃. Thanks so much for the tutorial 😊😍
I can’t wait for my paper to get here!!! Sew fun!
Love your paper Kimberly. Thank you for your tutorial.
A great project for a retreat.
I have to do this! I have a huge tub with scrapes to use.......I can't wait!
I have a honeybun and have been wondering what to do with it for months...know I know! Thank you!
I really want to try this, you make it look so easy. I'm ordering the papers today.
Looks easier with papers
I love this paper! Thank you 😍

That is so clever and cool. Did you make up the pattern paper? How smart and thanks so much. I might just make me a 12" we. quilt. Happy New Year!
Thank you!

Does anyone know what quilt that is hanging on the ladder? It's sew pretty!
Hi! It's called Swan Dive and it will be a kit available this month. I love it, too!!
I'm making one
Love the quilt on the ladder, where can I get the pattern?
It's a free pattern on the blog called Swan Dive

One word pure and simple…accuracy. 😊

Hey Kimberly I was just wondering if there is a coupon code. Being on disability I need to save every penny possible so I thought I would ask

What size do you cut the blocks and strips? I’m precutting all my scraps
Hello Denise! All the specific cutting is in the pad. The 6" pad is sized for 1.5" strips, the 12" pad is sized for 2" strips.
Pull from scraps that size? Can you explain thamks
Hello MiniMunchyKitty! The fabric sizes needed are listed in the paper pads.
If ever you need inspiration just look at one of the fatquarter shops video tutorials.xxx
Thanks Elaine!

Is paper freezer paper?
Please what is the quilt on the ladder?
so pull from scraps means?
Hello Shirley! That means to look at your scrap fabric from previous quilts and decide which fabrics you want to use.
Why do we sew 1/4” past the length of the designated line. That confuses me
To make sure you don't cut your threads too closely.
I know this is a year later, however I love FPP. The reason is to basically “lock” your stitches and make sure all seams are 1/4 inch as you would in any quilt piecing.
Do you have these pads in stock now?
Yes! The link to the pads is in the video description box right under the video
Why don’t you print a dotted line on one side to sew and a line on the back to use for placing?
Hello Kambyr! The paper is very thin and you are able to see through it. The lines on both sides would interfere with each other!
Fat Quarter Shop oh then what does folding the paper do? Sorry I’ve never done it before.

My biggest disaster was not knowing how to square a quilt in the beginning! I have some quilts that are so out of square they look like diamonds!!!!
Don’t laugh, I guessing you can’t use these papers and QAYG?
Hello Donn! Unfortunately not, you need to be able to take out your paper after piecing your blocks. If you did QAYG with this paper, i don't think you'd be able to remove the paper.
