Skunk Works have started building an ORG Fleet, and we loo kat the Strcuture of the Fleet - with Battlegroups focused around a Carrack, Hammerhead and Retaliator Core. In the current implementation of Star Citizen this seems to work well as a fleet structure for us.

The Celestial Soul was seriously well organized. Most impressive. Well managed by Captain Phoenix 👏. Very effective in commanding the respect of the crew. The communication of the group was excellent and clear. Captain didn't verbally discipline the crewmember who questioned his orders regarding the spiral trajectory. Along with the complimenting and praising the crew, Captain Phoenix shows many signs of a good leader. Respect.

@@kyphoenix83 Really nice Command and Control. Not sure if you have lots of life exp relevant to leading and team control, or in other games? I think here you strike a really good balance of being directive yet not micro-managing. A good conductor :).
I liked that you make relevant and clear target indications or orders that have an identifiable reference point for your crew (who show good comms protocols). You use them as a team with preliminary commands enabling them to be set and ready to act on your instruction; redirection/correction without being flustered. Your compliments were well received too I'm sure :).
Genuinely nice to see such leadership in a game that promotes the concept of multi person ships (not just armadas of individuals).
Well done and thanks for the time you and your crew put in on this (and Katie for the editing and post prod in addition to her own time in game!).
I look forward to footage of the you building to multi ship command and controlling your battle space which will bring interesting challenges of control vs freedom of action by your fellow captains! :).

Great video!! This is why I don't consider this game "pay to win". It's like rock paper scissors. Okay. You bought a rock but get owned by paper. The big expensive multi-crew ship couldn't compete against a smaller target in an asteroid field. The best you could do was a stalemate. And you were destroyed by a cheap, tiny, single player light fighter. If it was a bomber you'd be running.
I keep telling people you don't need expensive ships. I've seen an Aurora, a cheap starter ship dominate. It's also so easy to earn these ships in game. But I have an easier time taking on a Hammerhead by myself than convincing some people because of all the FUD around this game.

Great video as always and a very interesting scenario. For reasons of speed ships like the MSR and 400i outclass larger slower ships in survivability. They also tend to outclass smaller ships due to their toughness and enough firepower to deal with lesser ships. They are not combat ships, but they can take a beating and are fast enough to get away every time. Larger ships rely on shield strength and dps to survive an engagement, but the best way to survive is to not be there.

2 medium shields is pretty average for a medium ship, but it probably gets a better power pool to all systems cos of the 2 powerplants, so as long as it uses its speed, which is the 5th fastest in the game (after Bucc, 350r, razor, m50 & herald) it can recharge its shields pretty fast ^^

In situations like this, can be a solid move to put the Pisces out for EMP work. Even a small, but fairly close, EMP hit can foul up engines enough to give the carrack significantly more time on target. Also, if you take off the gimbals and give the Pisces an all ballistic loadout with some decent missiles, you'll be surprised what one can accomplish. The Pisces was my starter pledge and I'm a dogfighter, it doesn't pack a punch but what most people don't realize it is one of the fastest accelerating ships in the game and is more maneuverable than most ships. Against a faster, more maneuverable target like an MSR, a good Pisces deployment could have turned this around.
Also, advice about the asteroid fields - just skim the top of them towards your targets. Out of the field, your pilot can push full speed; whether or not weaving between asteroids would slow the MSR up enough is doubtful but it would have helped a lot.
Definitely looking forward to more battlegroup content - the Celestial Soul performance was extraordinary. With being able to edit in different captains, crews, and command styles; you're breaching into a genre that only DS9 and a few other fleet scifis really explored, all live on the internet. The difference the crew and captain make on the effectiveness of ships can be really explored this way; and thats interesting beyond just SC content. You've really got something special on your hands here

the way to catch him in the astroid field while in a large ship like Carrack or 890, is you stay above the field, and you fly in his direction, then only engage him from above or below the field .. never go into the field... you can't keep up with a smaller target.

Great teamwork Skunks! You guys are inspirational. :) A trick I use at Yela asteroid belt is to set trajectory in a safe direction skimming just ABOVE asteroids, then decouple so you can point nose toward target. Once over target, swoop directly down through the belt to minimize the thickness of belt you have to pass through.

Some comments on the pursuit tho! As a captain, it's your job to make sure the ship and your crew are safe, you are there to decide the next course of action. In this situation you didn't have the necessary tools to take down the target, you should have ended the chase at the moment when you realized the Starruner has lured you into the asteroid field. Your opponent was smart enough to use its only advantage effectively against you.
But still! This is amazing stuff! I enjoyed every bit of it!

As mentioned in the video, it was somewhat outside of the mission roleplay. We continued, as it was still a good learning the hard way opportunity for the entire crew. If we were staying serious we would have either broke contact, or called in a fleet and wiped the guy across Stanton if we felt like it. but we like to keep it fun for all, even our encountered opponents, usually...

Excellent Video, glad to be a new sub.
The Best quote I can think of for this situation is "It is possible to commit no mistakes and still lose. That is not weakness, it is life."
MSR is built to outrun anything it can't outfight and that Pilot knew his stuff, he kept using that speed maneuverability and terrain against you perfectly. The Burton however, never fell for the tricks, which is a good thing.
That lack of missiles and the Carrack's maneuvering disadvantage were a huge limitation, that couldn't be overcome this time. Even an ace Carrack pilot would have been on the Strugglebus with that matchup especially given the terrain.
I think your choices were basically to leave, or keep going until that MSR made a mistake, which is not a great plan for winning a fight. In theory the Pisces might have been able to help, at least as a distraction, but it would be well out of it's weight class fighting an MSR.
A Mantis and Fighters to Stop them jumping, and Nullify the MSR's maneuvering advantage would seem to be the answers.
It is really good to see that even Larger ships really have strong limitations in this game, Bigger, is not always better.

With 3 out of the 4 turrets having an angle on target (and there should always be 3 guns able to get on target in the carrack), it should take about 12 seconds to destroy an MSR using the stock rhinos. Gunners should be authorized "weapons free" and not need to be told to open fire when in range. The second those pips turn green they should be firing.
I've gunned in a carrack and watched hurricanes (roughly half the hull hp and shields of the MSR) melt in a matter of seconds, granted these were NPC ships, so not nearly as well piloted as a good human pilot.
It takes just shy of 4 seconds to completely deplete the shields of the MSR with 3 guns on target, and anything after that should be whittling away hull HP, so definitely a good call focusing on keeping the carrack pointed at the MSR so all 4 guns can open up. Definitely a good idea spending time practicing the piloting aspect. Also good idea having people calling out the vector of the MSR. It's not always easy to see that as the pilot, especially when trying to avoid slamming into asteroids, lol.
Keep at it with the practice and you guys are going to be a formidable force to reckon with!

A nice video again Kate, thank you. You can add a Buccaneer into the hangar of the Carrack to get compensated the missing rockets and manoeuvrability as crew seems not be a problem in your org :-) and well flown a Bucc is something you dont get rid off so fast. It can also operate on its own for a while if needed. I was sorry to see how often the MSR slipped through your fire, its time for CIG to give the weapons again the more or less old stats so you can profit from the range of bigger sized weapons offer.
Respect for your comm onboard, its nice to see. In my mostly german org its working fine as well (often) but sometimes we also run as mad chicken around without a real plan ^^ but who cares, its fun as well :-)

I absolutely love this Star Citizen series but this episode didn't really end the way I'd hoped. I really like seeing you guys take a very serious and sort of milsim approach on your game nights, However, I believe all of you could make an even more effective combat unit If you'd use some other ships perhaps, I'm not saying you have to give up on the Carrack but I think It could do you some good to incorporate more fighters into your combat units, the MSR was a great example of where the Greg Burton lacks the ability to intercept smaller targets, If you had maybe 1 or 2 Vanguard Harbingers with you, they could have kept up with the MSR, fired S5 torps If they tried to escape or just shoot them to bits with their heavy weaponry, what's great with the Vanguard Is that It has enough QT fuel and a big enough QT drive to follow your Carrack all over Stanton. I also believe some fighters would aid you immensely when taking on NPC crewed hammerheads as well, even light fighters would help you a lot because they draw fire from the Hammerhead, If you have tried Soloing a HH with a fighter compared to doing It with just 1 friend you would notice a huge decrease In taken damage just because now only half of the guns are pointed at yourself, Of course the HH will prioritise the bigger threat but I still believe this could help you, fighters also deal decent DPS now after the capacitor changes so having some extra firepower on your side would also be great.

Would love to try and pull more FPS guys into the genre. It wasn't too long ago that FPS guys had very little knowledge of RPGs and now everyone basically does them.

Just a thought, but you might want to add NATO brevity codes to your lingo for shipboard combat. They convey an awful lot of info in a few amount of words. For example:
Bogey: There's something on >radar< but we don't know if it's friendly or not. Don't shoot.
Contact: The bogey has been identified as an opposing force unit, but it's not done anything bad yet. Don't shoot yet.
Hostile: Bad guy doing bad things. Weapons free.
There's a reason the NATO forces use those brevity codes, and it really simplifies priorities, once everyone understands what they mean. Plus, it sounds cool as hell!
Edit: Bandit is a more common term used for a non-friendly unit that is not yet hostile. Sorry for the conundrum!

You guys need to start using a P-72 or 85X snub fighter for these fast targets like a Star Runner. The P-72 is faster, the 85X comes close in speed to the Star Runner. They both have as much firepower as a turret, especially when overclocking will be back.

Sadly my org is still off playing ED and not in SC with me, those that aren't too busing with real life to play many games anymore. I'm hold the rank of commander (like the naval rank) and am one of the "space whales" in our org "Executive Justice". My personal fleet consists of: a Banu Merchantman with Banu Defender (Personal Flagship), Aegis Hammerhead Corvette (Patrol/Escort), a Anvil Carrack Expedition "Magellan's Victoria" with Pisces Expedition and Ursa Rover (Long Range Exploration), an Aegis Reclaimer (Salvage), a Crusader Hercules C2 Starlifter with 1 Tonk, 1 Ballista, and 1 Cyclone MT (Ground Assault Transport), a Drake Corsair with Drake Dragonfly (Raider/Explorer), a Crusader Mercury Star Runner (data interception/smuggling/general trading), an Origin 400i Pathfinder with X-1 Force and Cyclone RN (Scouting/Yacht), an Aegis Redeemer (Escort/Gunship), a MISC Freelancer MIS (Escort/Missile boat), an Aegis Sabre Raven (Stealth fighter/game package), a Drake Cutlass Blue (Prisoner Transport), a Drake Cutlass Black (Multi-role), a Drake Herald (surveillance/data runner), an Argo Mole (Mining), an Argo SRV (Recovery Tug), an Argo Cargo (snub/LTI token), an Origin 85x (runabout), a Greycat buggy and several bikes (racing/fun and LTI tokens).
My best friend who got me into SC in 2017 is a support guy in our org. He has an Anvil Crucible (Repair), an Aegis Vulcan (Repair/Refuel/Rearm), a MISC Prospector and a Greycat ROC. His wife has a Drake Cutlass Red and a Consolidated Mustang Alpha. We have a few more whales besides me, they have a least one Javelin destroyer, several Aegis Idrises, a MISC Endeavor Hope, an Orion or two, Starfarers, etc. which makes my fleet look weak. They were early backers who bought everything that came out before 2016, then I took over buying stuff.
Obviously we can't crew everything we have in our fleets as our org is only about 70 players, none of who are active in SC right now. We will tailor our ships to our missions, like you guys do now, once we are actively in the game. We hope to grow in size with new players coming on to crew our ships. I've given away several ships to org mates including starter packages to new recruits who were interested in the game. While I'm not rich, I'm a retired cop with a decent income and few bills (obviously no wife either). There is a possibility that I won't have a lot of years to play (and grind) in SC when it finally comes out so I'm enjoying what I can in game now. I also have an inheritance plan for my account should the worse come to pass so don't anyone ask, ha! I really enjoy your videos, it is good to see other orgs who are not a bunch of pie-rats and gankers.

yes, there are plans for further expansion - a prospective Battlegroup Commander would need a pledged Command ship, to be of good character, able to commit the work needed to run the BG and follow the Skunk Works guidelines. But totally, we are adding a Aus/NZ timezone BG at this very moment

    • @VulpesChama

Well, we are looking kinda for a "parent"-organisation, as we have a focus on legal Merc-/Medical work.
And as we are not going to split up our little group, the idea of just forming a "battlegroup" / "squad" in a bigger org, or one building up crossed our minds.
Yes, we are willing to let others join our ranks, we are not closed off to outsiders. The idea in your battlegroups to have them set up with time-zones in mind is also really, really nice.

It's interesting that you make the Carrack the flagship of your battlegroups, With a corvette escort. I always thought that the Carrack would make a good command ship based purely on it's advance scanner suits though that is unfortunately not in the game yet. Once other capital ships become available will you be switching out the carrack for those ships, Such as the Idris Or Polaris?

    • @Citizen_Kate
      @Citizen_Kate  2 года назад +3

yes, most defiantely - at the very least a Polaris :D the Carrack has advantages over other big ships right now like the medbay and hangar, but is also very limited - especially for combat. It's what we have right now tough, you know? I would LOVE it though if CIG fleshed out the command position to allow tihngs like targetting/pinning targets for gunners and control of ship systems

    • @prinzals7926
      @prinzals7926 2 года назад

@@Citizen_Kate I wholeheartedly agree, It's the biggest thing that stops me from commanding my own Carrack and acting as the pilot myself. that and limited crew number. I am very interested to see how the planned features for radar and scanners will change which ships become flagships for their battle groups. I know the Polaris for example is supposed to have the biggest Radar of any capital ship- Though it has always felt more like a Stealth ship to me.
Hopefully they can get other seats to be able to manage ship systems and targeting soon.
