    This is NOT a promotional video. I pay for all of my flights and hotels (and I always tell you how much!) so I can be as honest and impartial as possible. I do not receive any special treatment that wouldn’t otherwise be publicly accessible, in fact, the hotels and airlines have no idea about my visit and that's the way I like it!

    I’m a OneWorld frequent flyer so hadn’t used Thai Airways in about 15 years until Sunday night just gone. I probably do at least 15 long haul flights a year and despite my trepidations Thai even in economy were fantastic. Crew were amazing and attentive to a level I haven’t experienced recently and the flight in general was great, highly recommended.

    Great content as always. I’ve flown on Thai on quite a few flights since 1990, I always have thought that they are an impressive airline , it’s good to see that they have ridden the ups and downs, equipment and product inconsistencies aside, they are a hidden treasure of an airline. Such a calming corporate image and product , outside and inside.
    Great honest videos always.

    Thanks for the review, enjoy your honesty! Travelled with Thai in Business Class a lot back in the 2006-2012 period - when 'lie flat' as opposed to 'fully flat' was a thing! My two only ever A346 flights were with them from MEL-ZRH and back (still my all time favorite aircraft!) but yes, the notorious equipment changes with Thai, uggh! That same trip was when I transited through what is now DMK on the way over but BKK on the way back when the new airport opened - ah, the old Don Mueang Airport - night and day in comparison to Suvarnabhumi! I did note in your video that upon departure from BKK the flight attendants where not in their traditional uniform - I just read that they can wear the purple uniform for shorter flights - I did not know that. I only ever saw them in the traditional uniform upon departure and they would then change into the 'western' purple uniform normally after the first meal service. Granted, all of my flights with Thai were long haul

    Every time I am back in India, I try to take the morning flight to Kolkata from Delhi, and choose A seats, just to absorb the views of Himalayas every time. It has been now so many times, but every time I see the mountains my inner child jumps with joy. First time I flew that flight was when I was 9 years old.
    Even better, if fly to or from Delhi to Bagdogra, in north West Bengal. You can literally touch the mountains.

    18:00 im soo glad you enjoyed the chicken and rice. i felt like the direct translation sells short the mystique of the dish. we call it ข้าวมันไก่สูตรง่าย (Kao Mun Gai) its one of the staples of Thai Cuisine. its a easy dish to make but if you screw it up the whole family calls you out instantly. my fav is the soybean and soy sauce on the upper right. i've only seen it in Thailand and when i have the dish in other countries i always miss that sauce and how it taste. the dish can trace its origins to the Qin Dynasty 221 BC so when i eat it its like eating history.
    i also loved how you summed up the history of Thai Airlines , we Thais always talk about how things were better in the past, my first flight on Thai airlines in 1994 i remember getting a purple orchid and a plastic Thai Pilots wings. when your a child you don't know too much about equipment changes so when you fly there its a 737 then you flew back on a BAe 146 you just think what a cool plane this one was vs the last one

    Another great review, Kevin. Flying into Delhi is my absolute favourite route, eight times 4 from UK 4 from Nepal. I'm not a big fan of IGI airport. To many jobsworth officials for me that have no customer focus at all. Too many petty rules that say you can't leave the transitlounge for 6 hours until Virgin Atlantic come on duty even though you have a boarding pass and an airport hotel booked. Apart from that, I will probably transit there in 2025 on my way to Australia just so I can fly Virgin Atlantic yet again. Keep your great videos coming😊😊. Having grown up in Bangkok, I've got a soft spot for TG. In the 90s I visited Don Muang often (Dad knew an immigration guy so we never queued for passport control) and spent time at the 4th floor TG coffee shop, where items were plated with inflight serviceware. Adults would sit and talk about how the Concorde blew out an entire wall of glasses in the old terminal...
    TG became a whipping boy for every aviation enthusiast and their moms who loved to ramble on about how they bought planes, how badly the airline's run, but the older I get, the more my interest as a consumer became aligned with how TG operated. For instance they were probably the last major in the region to begin to charge for exit rows. Now as TG reorganized more inline with modern business school paradigm, the base fare from my region to Bangkok has gone up by about 50%, including $500 for a three-hour flight that was about $250 on WE up till August. Travel plans destroyed lol...but hey, everyone was cheering this behavior on and believing TG should be more like this :P

    Hi once again Kevin. I just rewatched this trip report. I'm so glad they pushed back economy with business class🤣🤣. You must fly west to east from Europe for some fabulous views of the Himalaya, so much better than the views you saw. If you want to see them even more, how about taking the short, 40 minutes, flight to Luckla and then spending a few days trekking a bit higher to be right in the mountains? You could come with me in October/November 2027 when I will take what will proberbly be my fifth and final visi when I celebrate my 80th birthday. Thanks again❤❤🙃🙂

I had experienced 4 flights in total with TG and this has been the issue on 2 out of my 4 flights, particularly those operated by their older 777, both the 200ERs and 300ERs, the prior looking like they were from the 90s despite being from 2007 age-wise (proof is on my channel) Also, idk but it seems like the IFE on their A330 is way more stuffed with contents. Thanks for the review. I like Thai Airways. The handful of flights that I flew them were always very good. Thai Airways also serves as the "private jet" for the Thai Royal family. If any of the "Royals" were flying a flight, the airline would downgrade or move passengers for their privacy. That also led to aircraft being switched. A couple of other airlines do the same thing. Etihad and Qatar come to mind.

    Thai Airways have indeed fallen far from its golden era in the 80s, when the airline was renowned for its onboard service. One thing you didn't mention Kelvin, was why the airline began suffering from financial issues, non-sensical aircraft orders and subpar service in the subsequent decades. Partly this was due to external factors, like financial crises and oil price spikes. But those factors weren't unique to Thai, other airlines faced the same issues and remain profitable and retaining good service. The key issue was domestic, from the frequent military coups in Thailand and consequent government interference in management of the airline. Competent managers and CEOs who made decisions on sound business rationale, were removed and replaced by military cronies who have zero experience in airline management. While I am glad you had an overall enjoyable experience, I am afraid I cannot generalize that to say Thai is now once again a great airline to fly with. Your one single trip of course is not necessarily representative of what other Thai passengers experience. Based on a large sample sized review of Thai, it seems Thai still has a long way to go to climb back to a respectable level of premium airline quality.

    • @tfft
      @tfft  8 месяцев назад

      I'm aware of those factors, but for a multitude of reasons I'm sure you're aware of, I steer clear of discussing them entirely in my relevant trip reports and hotel reviews in/from/to Thailand. Thanks for watching 🩴

In my family my father sees TG🇹🇭> PR🇵🇭 since he used his Star Alliance mileage from Thai Airways to travel with them and the European partners LH🇩🇪 OS🇦🇹. Seat type a Rockwell Collins super diamond 2-2-2 should rival the other seat type found in Royal silk class a Stelia Solstys 1-2-1. Since I had experienced traveling on a 2-2-2 business class seat the family takes the single rule for themselves just like a 2-3-2 set up.
