DJI is the leading company when it comes to advancements in public safety. I wouldn't trust these new companies just starting out in the drone market. Unfortunately, our government, since nothing is truly made in America, seems to think the only way to compete is by targeting the top company, DJI, which sets back search and rescue efforts.
Drones can be used in place of helicopters and are easier to have a charged drone keep chasing. They are great for indoor swat situations. If you are worried about overreach or surveillance you better not have a smartphone. Ever been talking about getting something and see an ad without typing anything about it on your phone? Your phone is always listening and everything you do can be seen, even if it takes a warrant and you have deleted things, it can still be recovered mostly. A smart phone has a higher risk of privacy to you than a drone deployed by the police station.
There are a few holes in your argument. Cellphones report data for advertising, not for law enforcement. Police can file a warrant to access data generated from a smartphone, but that still requires judicial channels and a paper trail that must be presented in court. Drones like the one featured here have a lot of capability to be used for illegal spying and surveillance purposes, and the only framework preventing abuse is the pinky promise from the people running the program that it'll only be used for first response and that the camera will only be turned on on arrival, just like how they keep their body cams on and recording at all times. The issue is not with the technology, it can arguably save lives and can help in a lot of instances. The problem is that this powerful tool is being implemented with no oversight. I don't hate police, I hate monarchs.
Your premise is dumb. Illegal surveillance is prohibited. So no they can't surveillance you thru you phone without a warrant signed by a judge. I think you for got what happened during the Obama administration.
