  • Today I wanted to do a video on what I believe to be an underrated Pixar film and what makes it deserving of more recognition.

I'm not a big Pixar fan, but this seemed like one of the few films they made that I need to get around to watching.

    TW: mention of SH, EDs
in march 2020 i was in a facility for SH and eating disorders for a month. After a few days, day after day we would hear in the radio (we listened to it when we had our meals) about new cases and deaths. When i went there no one even had covid in my country. Then when i came back the world was completely different, so empty and alien. When i was home i would hear a car driving around the city reminding people to mask, wash hands and social distance.
I watched Onward 3 or 4 times in a very short time which i never do. Less than 2 years before pandemic were very hard and i lost my grandpa that i had no connection with. He died in a hospital after being put there too late, yet at the end there was still hope for him. He lived with us but i was never able to form relation with so most of things about him i would learn from other family members.
I think all of that made me connect with the boys and their story. Cos even tho i was 16 i didnt know much about my grandpa. He would be silent a lot, a very simple man born in a small village that escaped a massacre during WW2.
I dont know all that isolation, confusion paired up with a loss of someone who i could never be close with but wished to be, the fact that i never was given tools to properly deal with that and strong medecines i was put on, the movie just hit me right in the core.

Great video! I haven't see lots of Onward videos talking about the emotional part of the movie itself.
I also do not consider Onward the best movie ever made.. but def the best movie to handle loss and grief so well. This movie was the magic adventure I was waiting for since I was 4 years old... it is funny how I ended up having the same realisation that Ian (the yougust brother) did. This movie has a place on my heart, and needs the recognizement for talking about a sensitive topic in a fantastic and *REALISTIC* way.
(I have to say, I cried 60% of the whole movie, since the beggning until the end. Ian Lightfoot hitted to close to home for me lol. )

Nice video and analysis. I like your perspective and critique. I did find Ian realizing he did those things from his list and not seeing his surprising and unexpected. 🙂👍

Great video! I agree with a lot of the things you said. I understand how the MCs feel cuz my dad also passed away when I was young and my remember him but at the same time I have little memories. This movie definitely made me super emotional.

This makes me sad that I brushed this movie off! That's such a beautiful story, I wish they had marketed it a little differently!

I agree. Sadly most general audiences probably wouldn't be super interested in seeing movie about brotherly relationships

I remember seeing trailers and marketing that made it seem like a parody of fantasy tales, kinda like Shrek, and it made me roll my eyes 'cause that's overdone 🙄 But then one day I decided to watch it and it became my favourite Pixar movie. Crisp Rat shouldn't have voiced Barley tho 😒
