It is *mid* but not mid as in bad, because that’s not what the word means. It was a perfectly average movie that didn’t affect me strongly in any way
I proclaim "O for Onward" almost every time I drive with my family lol I love that movie. My kids are 2 and 3, so they haven't yet reached the age to appreciate it

I honestly really loved Onward, and it's one of my favorite pixar films. I just love the fantasy world building, and the plot had me super invested

My dad died a month before this and when they talked about their dad dying while they were on the cheese puff the story of the dad how he didnt want to see him on the deathbed before he died is shockingly similar to me (except i have no siblings) and to this day i swear someone we know thats ine of our close family friends works at pixar or is a friend of someone who works at pixar

I completely agree. I watched the movie around the time it came out and it was before I had heard anyone’s opinion on the movie, and I thought it great! But when I saw people say it wasn’t a good movie I was confused. Nice to see other people who like the movie!

I partially agree with the “last good movie” opinion, I thought soul was peak, and Luca made me cry. Whilst I enjoyed turning red, I’ll admit, it wasn’t great
I love Onward so much, there were very few movies i actually remember being excited for and actually making me happy with the final result and this is one of them. I can relate so much to the characters and its just an overall amazing movie, i’m so glad other people find it good aswell :)
When I first watched this movie I thought it was really good so I was really surprised when everyone thought it wasn’t very good.
It was literally THE last movie I watched in cinemas/theatres before lockdown started, and I still remember how hyped I was when the short that played before it was a Simpsons one!
I love the movie it’s just the ending for me that was just sad like imagine being so close to saying hi and goodbye to your dead dad and not doing it

Its one of the few movies with a happy but bitter ending that I actually liked. It made completely sense for the movie to end the way it did and it was really good.

I watched it. It was a good family movie. About how you have to accept saying goodbye and sibling love.
*Spoilers ahead*

The younger one gradually sees the older one as his older brother who's always trying to help him instead of seeing him as a weirdo who always messes your chores and life. The older sibling also had growth in his character because instead of forcing himself to give the chance to meet the father to his younger sibling, he realises that the one who most wants to say goodbye is himself. The mom has already moved on and the younger sibling has never met the father at all. All the characters go through growth. I especially like that the mom never really gave up her second marriage for her kids. The lion person also has growth in terms of accepting her natural side instead of always covering it up.
The most hilarious thing is despite trying to go on an adventure far far away they just end up going into circles and end up in the school which we see at the beginning of the movie. Like this gives the impression of "the world is so small" instead of the common impression that adventure movies give us. They did no big thing, no world saving and no idolising. They just started a subtle change that brought the magic back into their society- "showing everyone that magic in fact is real"
I remember going to see this movie with my sister, going out to dinner and all around, having a great time. Then the best day, I got an email from my school saying that we all had to go home for 2 weeks.
The other day I was wondering the same thing. I was just lost in my thoughts and remembered that one time I watched the movie with my family. It was surpising it didn't get as much attention, since I remembered it as an actually good and funny movie
Yeah I loved this movie I love Fantasy, especially when it’s in a modern sort of setting such as Onward, or Dimension 20’s Fantasy High

I grew up as a father figure for my younger brother. I watched this on my birthday a few days before lockdown and ended up crying the whole time.
FINALLY that movie was amazing me and mum were laughing and crying all throughout the movie it was beautiful and my mum was super amazed it hit her in the feels because it reminded her of her dad
We bought spies in disguise (also underrated but less so) and onward on dvd at a bargain bin sale wayched them both at Family movie night and they were both great
I watched and genuinely liked it, I can’t remember much but it shows how many people are willing to go so far to see a loved one again and do outrageous things and stuff they thought they’d never do. All of that under the cover of 2 boys wanting to see their Dad again
YES I love Onward, I will rant to ANYONE who allows me the chance to. I was going to see it in theater, I remember it being advertised only a month or so before lockdown. Definitely one of my favorites

It's great and something good to watch during lock down
, I watched this movie three times and I just love it so much but it was hold back because it was made in 2020. I wanted to watch it more in theaters but COVID-19
There are also so many Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, and Dungeons and Dragons references in the movies, and as a complete nerd, I loved Onward.
I really liked Onward more than I was expecting it truly is underrated
It also probably made people more depressed because they were allowed to go out in the movie but not not us

I also really love soul and turning red. Soul is extremely deep and heartfelt and 22’s arc hit way too close to home for me. And turning red is hilarious and an over all a good time that perfectly captures pre-teenhood.
My mum wouldn’t let us watch it cus it came out not long after my dad died and I forgot about it till now
I loved Onward I still laugh and cry at the same time in that van scene.

Onward (like any GOOD Pixar movie) made me cry. Inside Out? Cry. Toy story? Cry.
I completely agree, onward is a much better movie than people give it credit for. I do disagree however with the claim that pixar’s quality have diminished. True, the golden age when Pixar used to produce citizen kane-esque quality films is truly behind us but Pixar is remarkably consistent when it comes to the quality of its movies compared to other studios. With exception of buzz lighter year, pixar movies from 2019 to 2024 has been overall good.
So many films are so underrated, all bc of a stupid lockdown

I love Onward, i havent watched it in a long time but it was great!! Modernised fantasy should be ysed more, i have a physical copy of a webcomic called Hooky, its a modern fantasy with tons of great moments!! My pfp is one of my favourite characters, if you couldnt tell lol
I’d like to also add in another reason: the character designs. Im an artist, and although i totally agree with your opinion (that onward is a very heartfelt and underrated movie), the designs are forgettable. Might be because of the color scheme mostly, but the character’s silhouette is too overcomplicated.
I am a huge D&D nerd so I just really enjoyed the movie
