I have a theory as to why Dante changes throughout each level of hell. Each level requires a different version of Dante that is why he constantly changing.
Well hell is a different dimension entirely so it obey’s different rules, out of lore reason; the animators had different people working on the same film, problem is there was no communication between the different studios making the film
This was a 90 minute movie tie in with the game, no one in Japan had any involvement whatsoever That said I'd love to see an anime based off the divine comedy

Fun Fact:The real Dante Alighieri was a veteran of the Trajan Wars,not the Crusades,which is why "The Divine Comedy" portrays Greeks in a far less flattering light than their Roman counterparts(That and Dante as a Florentine Catholic naturally felt far more kinship with The Romans).

In the poem, Dante puts some men of the church (and even a Pope, Bonifacio VIII) in Hell, but basically it was a political choice, not a religious one. Dante was very catholic (he fought in the battle of Campaldino with the Tuscan allies of the Pope) and he was a man of his time: for him, it was normal to believe blindly in the Catholic religion and to sustain the cause of crusaders, because at that time the society was quite entirely based on religion. If the Divine Comedy really was an anti-catholic poem, it wouldn't have been published at all (or at least not during the XIII and XIV century).
