First dvd I ever purchased. Absolutely love it. Was showing it to my gf a year ago and she likes subtitles but this is from like the first year they made dvds or something and it didn’t have such luxuries back then. Also the audio is like insanely loud in the action scenes and almost deafly quiet in the dialogue scenes.
Loved it, my only gripe is the audio was fucked up. Quiet and then loud in the wrong places. Watched the first time with my friends in High School and one of my buddies made the stereo to try and balance it out.
And if it failed, it would have been a bad enough hit to the studio that it could have easily bankrupted them. Even then, it wasn't as successful as they hoped, which likely killed any future Vampire Hunter D projects, provided that the author of the Light Novels didn't nix the idea from the start.

@@Ismail33313 both are good. They mix well. Jormungand, cowboy Bebop, Canaan, Elfen Lied, Gangsta, Hellsing Ultimate, Maria the Virgin Witch, Blood C: The Last Dark and Shiki are all great examples.
Keep in mind that both were not profitable enough to justify making an entire series for, especially when you consider the quality of the animation of the movies, which a series wouldn't have due to production cost. A movie can be expensive an be a financial loss for a production studio because they can usually absorb it provided that the studio's survival doesn't hinge on the success of the movie. Even with a market, it's matter of how much return they get for their investment in production quickly enough. The bottom line screws many ideas because a production company making an anime is taking a not inconsiderable risk. Look at the larger companies and you will realize that majority their profits only come from a relative small number of series, with the rest breaking even, or turning a small profit at best, due to not releasing the series at the right time to capitalize on things or not releasing a series soon enough, making it seem like a follow the leader type of scenario. The latter, while it can turn a profit, is rarely as profitable as the ones who started it.
Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust is hands down the best piece of animation I've ever seen. Now I know it will never be surpassed. I mean animation today just sucks and it seems it will only get worse. There is no passion... Too much use of techonology instead of relying on human talent.
There is Redline which is 102 minutes of hand drawn perfection. It took 8 years to make and is a masterpiece of animation. Probably the last masterpiece of animation.
So true and it hurts. Now Anime production studios have to snap up light novels, overwork their artists to get stuff out the door then just fix everything for the DVD collections. Its sloppy, basic, and uninspired and people eating it up means those of us who appreciate and love quality like this miss out.
What I love about so many of the stories of D is that D himself is insanely powerful and IF an opponent has him on the ropes and "starts to kill him", it activates his vampire genetics, which are so damn powerful because he's the son of Dracula himself that he basically atomizes whoever was dumb enough to pick a fight with him.
i will always have a soft spot for Vampire Hunter D the first anime i ever watched was Vampire Hunter D the 1985 vhs and my god was it amazing and because of this i have found so many other animes to watch

Really this is a work of art, the animation is beautiful for itself time indeed I consider it better than most of the animes that are currently, the story of D is epic and very good, it is a pity that things like that no longer want to adapt by the stupid fashions of now
The song is so good, and fits the movie so well. Also, your storytelling actually makes sense. There is a build-up whenever the song is building up. And very importantly, you got the clips to somewhat arrive at a conclusion as the song ends. It feels like, vaguely, a story has been told. And also, the deep distorted parts of the song reminds me of Epica, plus the high pitched vocals.
Yeah me too, it's much better than new vampire stuffs. D is really alone, half vampire _half human, most of vampires are selfish and heartless and humans hate vampires so D can't be in any side and if he falls in love with a human in the end he should see that person's death because he will never turns a human into a vampire...it's sad. I really love this animation and it could be really good if they made a anime about this.

His wife featured in this story was power mad and devoured victims relentlessly, stopping at nothing to sate her bloodlust. because she wouldn't obey Dracula in keeping things low profile, Dracula killed her to stop her massacres. However he didn't finish her off completely, either because he didn't know he didn't kill her or he partly still loved her. D ends up killing her for good, but not before she performs one more kill to an innocent.
